Brutal Legend... I really wanted to kill the glam metal guy...
Pretty much every Final Fantasy game. The final bosses are always a joke while some optional ones are near impossible. Plus there seems to be a boss about 2/3-3/4 of the way through that is harder than the final bosses:

Carry Armor was always a pain for me unless I had KotR or Omnislash by then, which I usually have by then when I play it now.

Two words: Cliff side.

Ugh... this is what annoys me... That WASN'T a boss. Just because it was at the end of the game doesn't make it a boss.

Do games need final bosses? A lot of games develop miraculously crappy endings purely because of the assumption that final bosses are necessary.
Examples:
Arkham Asylum - there had to be a way to do that without you just wading through different groups of thugs. Maybe if you had been pushed down from the tower, and made to climb up past a couple of groups of henchmen, before doing the batclaw thing once, and only once? That would have been more in keeping with the joker's character (although I liked the idea of him being insane enough to inject himself with titan, just not the execution of it as a finale)

Halo 3: It's a floating ball. Give us a cutscene.

Gears 2: Again, cutscene. It's a 10 second sequence where you just hold down the right trigger otherwise.

Mass effect 2: Unless the baby reaper is going to be significant to the plot in ME3, what was the point of this, other than the abitrary 'final boss in RPG' thing - the game would have been fine without it! Or, again, a cutscene of some kind, where it's destroyed, and then you get attacked by collectors.

Any game where a normal human is set up as a final boss: Just no. They're a normal human, there is no reason for them to have over 9000 times the health of everyone else. Just throw a fair number of bodyguards at us, then kill the boss in with either a single shot, or in a cutscene (turn-based combat in RPG's where you level up are exempt from this)

Oblivion. You don't fight the final boss at all. It's all cutsceney and lame.
Mankar Camoran was the final boss. And he was fairly epic and difficult on a harder difficulty as long as you didn't have any game breaking stat boosts.

The Mass Effect one wasn't that epic, but at least it could be a bit hard to beat (if played on INSANE) whilst the Mass Effect 2 was pretty epic, but so damned easy it's not even fun (even when played on INSANE) since you just had to cover when it attacked (pretty obvious attack too) then hit it with whatever you had ammo for, repeat, repeat, kill some collectors, pick up ammo, repeat and then you've won. And if played on normal or below you can kill it with 2-3 hits with Cain. =.="
Personally, I thought that ME1 had an epic final boss that could have been done better. ME2's final boss however was cliche and hard to take seriously. I mean, COME ON he's a REAPER, Destroyer of all sentient life! Even in his larva stage he still should have been able to crush you.

Scence you took bioshock im going with fable 2 before anyonelse can.
AND OH MY GOOOODDDD I FORGOT THAT.
Yeah, right, the last boss on Fable 2 was just...:/ RAAAAAGGGEEEE.
I thought that giant shard was supposed to be the final boss. I mean, it was right at the end of the game and while it was very easy, it was a cool idea to work together with the three heroes to beat it.

OOH yeah the hench shard. yeah that wouldve been a more fitting one i suppose, but still, wouldnt been a letdown:/. im just so gutten cos it was such a good game and to have such an anticlimax was like sadface central.

Oblivion. Watching Martin steal my glory as I was frozen in place is not fun. Actually, he stole mine and Akatosh since it was him who actually beat Mehrunes.

Borderlands. The biggest danger to me in that battle was running out of ammo. Luckily, that game redeemed itself by adding a real final boss. Crawmerax the Invincible!
I agree. And then the final boss doesn't even give you any decent drops. I found better weapons hidden in the beginning areas! Also, the final "boss" of World at War. All you do is stab a guy with a flag pole and get saved by Russians!

God of War 3

This was Zeus' finest hour? Really?
I have to agree with this. GOW 2 last boss was my favorite boss battle of all time and I was really looking forward to some kind of ultra version of that. But it was just meh. GOW 2 had the atmosphere with the rain and the perfect arena but GOW 3 just felt too closed off cus it was mostly indoors. Preferred the fight with Hercules if I'm honest.

Resident Evil 4 is one I immediately think of. Especially considering the game had so many amazing and memorable boss fights while the final boss was so easy I beat in one try and only had to use a single health spray.

Gears of War 2, I just beat it with my fiance like 3-4 days ago, we were both incredibly disappointed.
[rage]Ok, listen. Obviously that wasn't a final boss fight. He stood there and took the laser and I'm pretty sure he can't even kill you. That whole section was meant to be a reward for all your hard work and a nice relaxing end sequence where you got to mow down thousands of locusts and then blow up a mutant dinosaur. It's like a fireworks show where it's visually spectacular for not a lot of work. If it was supposed to be a final boss fight, there would be a challenge or maybe the boss doing something other than standing there. Even in easy final boss fights (Borderlands, Resident Evil 4) the boss actually did something.[/rage]

Apologies, I was just sure that it was pretty obvious that the ending of Gears of War 2 was not a final boss fight and in every thread like this people always mention it.

Oh lets see... FF7, 10 and 13 all had little weak final bosses who weren't any challenge at all (although killing the boss just before them was hard, cept Seraph Sephiroth).

Alone in the Dark and Fable 2 both had the poorestr final bosses I have ever encountered. I will give the edge to Fabe 2 though since AITD did require a small amount of skill to beat.

Kingdom Hearts 2. God, I just spent an entire game kicking the cap out of Disney Japan and they throw some lame Sephiroth rip off at me? Pff. Also the first time I beat him, I didn't know you could uses Riku and Sora at the same time during the end, so I essentially did it all with half power.

Well i found Mankar Camoran increadibly easy to beat. But that for me was just because my character was designed to kill mages, so Camoran was nearly useless for the whole fight.
