Only did it once to one of my Dovahkiin, to Shahvee the Argonian. I mean, human and human relationship in my Skyrim?! That's pretty twisted!

I think I married someone in the game once... don't really remember them all to well, considering I never went back to my house in game (the pros of carry weight mods - JUST KEEP ADVENTURING!).

Totally off-topic, but is your avatar a gif, perchance? Every time I look at it I swear it's getting closer.

[sub]It's starting to scare me...[/sub]
No, that's just you...slowly...losing...your...MIND.

Ah Ysolda. Always catching me mid sprint on the way to Dragonsreach. "It's a fine day with YOU around". I always have to stop and turn around as if to say "sup baby?" then I continue on my run to the arcane enchanter.

Exactly. I chose to marry Aela. She is a true bad ass companion/wife.
Just my perverted mind speaking, but I also imagine she'd be dynamite in the sack as well.
It's gotta be the war paint and proclivity for full moons.
Yeah, you might be right on that.

STILL waiting for a GOTYE or some kind of compilation set before I play Skyrim.

::Looks up Ysolda:: Beats me; looks like she's in her late 40s. Ooh...everyone in this game looks hideous & elderly compared to Oblivion. Thank gawd for mods.

I guess this Sondas Drenim looks handsome enough. For a woman, I'd go with whomever is the most bitchy & domineering, or a redhead. Yeah, not real picky about gender.

Actually I failed to mention that in my first half of a playthrough (before my 360 red ringed and had to be replaced) I married Muiri the apothecary assistant from Markarth. I only did her quest for the +15% enchanted alchemy ring reward and for the hell of it I decided to marry her. She then bored me to tears. This is why I prefer Aela. At least I could go out and kill stuff with her and then turn around and ask her for food and cash while doing so. Plus she can carry all my crap.

Excuse me everybody but clearly Uthgerd the Unbroken is the only HBIC even worthy of attention. AND she has a nice house.

Of course if Teldryn Sero had be available, things might be different.

(All of this is made irrelevant by the Interesting NPCs mod which has marriage candidates miles beyond any of the vanilla people. Highly recommended if you're on PC and have half an hour to wait for it to download.)

I typically go for Camilla Valerius, because she's the first nice eligible girl in the entire freaking game. Plus, she seems more entreprising than her wet blanket of a brother, Lucan.

I have yet to marry or voluntarily use companions. People just get in the way of my assassin. Companions in particular weigh me down and screw me over.

Food and money? That's exactly why you get married! :p

Some girls will cook for you. Some will even not such at it. As far as I can tell, they're usually the reason you don't have money, though. But I've never had a girlfriend for longer than a month, and the one I had was just a terrible person, so I don't really know. I imagine you'd have to buy them stuffs though...

Also I've played it three times and haven't married anyone.

Lydia is the only companion for me. Also Minedog.

We don't need a goddamn special ceremony to show our love for each other. We being me and Lydia, that is. Minedog is our pet.

It always baffled me that there are no mods out there that develop (or rather, add, in this case) some romance to the game and make marriage something meaningful. And before you say "Oh, but Skyrim is not a BioWare game, we don't need no sappy romance!", consider this: what does it matter to you? Having more options is always better than having less, and really, it would probably not be that hard to improve on the relationship-building in the game, taken that it is pretty much nonexistent now, so anything and everything could be an improvement... -.-

That said, I don't marry my characters in Skyrim because it is just a tacked-on and silly system, and I don't really use companions either, since they get in the way two-thirds of the time (to elaborate: they can be useful if you are a fighter, distracting and getting in the way if you are a mage and completely useless and blowing covers if you are a sneaky thief/assassin/archer; so yeah, two thirds. :p).

However, if there was a something, either an expansion like Heartfire or a mod that would flesh out some marriable characters and some post-marriage options/quests, I would go for it. Here's what I was thinking about:

-Wooing:
Add an affection-counter to all marriable NPCs. Also give them a few tags that decide their personality (kind, honest, jealous, etc.). Once they would reach the stage where they would normally be marriable, instead give a new option where the PC can make small-talk with them, and get a random multi-choice conversation. Depending on the answers an their personality, they would either gain or lose affection, and then the small-talk option couldn't be triggered for 24 hours. Once their affection is high enough, marriage finally becomes available, or if it gets REALLY high, they might do the proposing themselves.

-Gifts:
Gifting items to NPC's would also raise their affection-counter, by a degree determined by the item's value and whether they like it or not (women like stuff like gems, jewels and clothes more while men like weapons, armor and tools, though it would also depend on personality). To balance this, only one gift can be given per two days, with diminishing returns.

-New radiant quests:
Simple stuff, like getting rid of another aggressive suitor or doing some small favors for them in exchange of affection and bonuses (money, gifts, etc.).

-Post-marriage:
First and foremost, MAKE SPOUSES USEFUL. With a system like this, wooing an NPC would be much longer and more bothersome, so it requires an appropriate reward, namely: a free perk-point, an always-active buff (depending on the spouse, say, Ysolde would give a buff that grants bonus speechcraft and better prices while Lydia would give bonus to heavy armor and health) and some spousal options with benefits (spending time together -\> would act like waiting but the longer you do it, the bigger temporary stat-boost it gives and for longer, or if you sleep in a bed with them around, you have the option to have sex (offscreen, obviously) which would give a big stat-boost and other benefits). Really, the possibilities are endless! :p

-Spousal quests:
Funny stuff to make Skyrim more colorful. For example, your spouse complains about not not having any quality meant and sends you out into the wilderness to find a legendary venison. If you do it, you get a full meal with a small permanent stat-boost.

So yeah, if marriage was anything like this in Skyrim, I would love it, too bad it is pretty much a pipe-dream... unless I make it. :p

This :D

Marriage is Skyrim is just so poorly thought out and tacked on, and I never use companions because they just get in the way :D
Yeah, the life expectancy of my companions is severely low. If I'm a thief type, I ditch them cause they suck at stealth (Even if they sneak adequately, once a battle starts, they go raging off aggroing everything). Fighter usually kills them with sword strikes cause they jump in the middle. Mage tends to do alright til I get the Ice Storm, at which point horrible companion death ensues because they get in the way.

I was a Khajiit, I always got the feeling that everyone in Skyrim were racist pricks so I didn't bother. It was particularly awkward when I was having a conversation with Ysolda about how no one trusts Khajiits.

Also Off Topic: Why would ANYONE side with Ulfric? Ew.

The one time I married it was that girl living in the mountains.

With my mods friendly fire was a thing, and bows were deadly as fck.

After dying to her arrows a second time (During a boss battle where I told her to use damn meele weapons over shooting me) I decided to dump her right then and there in the lich's den (Or whatever those dead dragonmagicians call themselves) and froze her feet to the ground and ran.

I went on to live the life of a succesfull single adventurer, right up and until we met again whilst I was climbing the mountains in search for a certain miners pickaxe, and that was when I.... wait for it...

Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
Took an arrow to the knee

After that tragic event I retired my character, and went on to play Darklands (Far superior RPG, heh heh heh) Dunno what became of him.

I married Farkas:

Cause my main character is a female Nord and they just looked darlin' together!

(haven't bothered marrying in any of my other playthroughs!)
