Now I believe I have a broad and general knowledge on how the gaming world works but I have friends that think they know everything when they are wrong all the time.

I heard them talking about the Black Ops 2 trailer (them being "avid" fans but say that the new one will suck but they end up buying them and loving them anyway) and saying it sucked cause it looked like a hybrid of Mass Effect and Halo. "Hello, have you ever played those games before" I thought, Black Ops 2 looks nothing like them, if anything it looks a bit like Crysis 2: Racism Edition.

Anyway, to another story. I saw on Facebook a picture asking game makers (rather then developers) to make the original Pokemon with the size and graphics of Skyrim. Now, I'm not saying Skyrim is a small game but use its graphics.... really?

So, escapist, do you know people like this? What do you make of it? Share your stories.

Whenever something like this happens I don't know whether it makes me laugh or makes me insulted.

Every TV show ever. Particularly cop dramas. Look, I know it's expensive to license games, but please at least play one privately before you attempt to make your own. And if you are going to license a name like Prince of Persia, please don't then ignore its actual existing framework. Why the hell did you license it, in that case?

I don't think they actually make the games. I think they just play sound effects that come from the TV to make it look like they're playing a game.

Except for the times when they do show a game. And whatever the case, it tends to be totally misrepresentative of games and gaming.

It wasn't really a huge facepalm moment but a while ago I was in a pub with my friend one night when I happened to be wearing a Zelda shirt. Some guy came up to me and said the shirt was cool and he liked the Zelda games, but he thought they should be made for Xbox...

I don't think I've ever seen one before, except on NCIS and Community. Anyway, yeah they tend to misrepresent games a lot.

Ah yes, the whole "games don't have licenses" thing. It really annoys me when that happens. Many a facepalms are had.

Watch Spaced. Great example of how to do it.

But you can't expect cop drama writers to actually play the games they're putting in their show! Those are for neeeeerrrrddds! (Hilariously enough, they do the same thing with movies. Like in NCIS, this one guy ostensibly is a huge movie geek but has an unbelievably shallow reference pool.)

OT: This is why I can't watch more than 10 seconds of literally any game-related TV thing.

Ah, overlooked the cop drama part, sorry about that.

Well just yesterday the words "well it was on the PS2 so how good could it really be?" came out of my friend's mouth. This was in relation to Persona 4 (a game he has never played nor even bothered to look into)

I'm this close to disowning him. This fucking close.

So how about that Persona 4 fighting game guys? There's a combo break button. A goddamn combo break button. Fucking finally! 'S like an upgraded version of Skullgirls' Infinite Prevention System.

Do want nao.

Heh or the unbelievable Second Life chase scene that was in CSI:NY. That was just..... I don't know what to say about it. They meet someone they need to talk to in Second Life and the guy doesn't want to talk to them so what happens. Does he block them? log off? or anything sane? No he does what happens in all cop shows, he runs and they chase him!

I'm only halfway through June in Persona 3 (having recently purchased FES on the PSN out of a seething curiosity about this popular series, which I've somehow never played despite being an avid JRPG fan)

and I'm already fairly certain I'll get P4 arena, simply because the P4 protagonist can palette swap to my P3 protagonist.

It's that fucking easy to get hooked on this franchise. Tell your friend the Ps2 rocked back in its hay-day (enough titles in its library to choke a blue whale) and he should be less close-minded.

Oh is Black Ops 2 a modern near-future deal? I might look it up? I like that kind of setting. If I had the money I'd have gotten Future Soldier.

There was a whole article on Cracked about examples of this on TV. I'd look for it, but I'm afraid the stupidity is contagious.

Are you talking about that show that had a killer hide the documents inside the games coding, and so they had to get to level 15 in Prince of Persia to unlock the files because apparently you can install windows office into an Xbox and actually access it through a games coding?

Or the time when we met a girl who apparently had the "high score" in every MMO game ever...

Yeah, that often annoys the hell out of me... Except when they are so wrong, it is just funny. Seriously, I once saw a show were a guy was playing Crackdown with a lightgun. And what he was doing looked nothing like was on the screen! It was just so absurd it became strangely hilarious. XD

OT: Nah, don't know many like this. Most of my friends are from school, and since they are all CSS students, well... They tend to know much more about that stuff than other people. XD

Maybe they were using a dev-box? Or maybe they hid the .doc files on the game disc? Not the first time random junk/files not even related to a game was hidden in a game's code...

Ah. How I hate the people who think console exclusivity is the devil. Those that want to play Diablo 3 on the 360 because they do not want to invest in an 800 dollar gaming computer.

What? I think not wanting to splash out hundreds of quid for a new machine when you already have a functioning one is quite fair. Unless I misread you, of course, but I don't see what you find negative....
