Well I probably have one about video games somewhere in my head but I can't think of it, so instead I'll talk about DVDs and Blu-Rays.

I worked in a video rental store and we had three shelves devoted to blu-ray movies and at least once a week a customer would bring one up and we'd have to go through a scenario similar to this.

Me: Do you have a blu-ray player?
Customer: A what?
Me: A blu-ray DVD player. See this disc here, it only plays on a special DVD player. Do you have one?
Customer: I don't know.
Me: Well if you don't know, then you probably don't have one.
Customer: Why won't it play on my DVD player?
Me: Because it's blu-ray. It's not meant to play on a regular DVD player.
Customer: Well what's the difference?
Me: *sighs and tries to explain and then wash, rinse, repeat three more times.*

I get that not everyone is up on the latest technology and that's fine but it's simple, if you don't KNOW if you have one, you probably DON'T have one. Moreover, I'm not your teacher, I'll gladly try to help my customer in any way I can, but I'm actually at work and have other things to do then school you in the latest technology. If you're that interested, go to walmart, best buy, or somewhere else and ask the people that actually SELL the damn things. They're actually paid to explain this stuff to you.

And when people are using the controllers, the actors just mash all the buttons and flick the analogue sticks around.

*mash mash mash mash* *character walks forward*
Yeah, that's the part that gets me whenever they show gaming in shows or movies. I don't believe I've ever been that animated while playing a game. I mean, I mash my hotkeys a fair bit while I'm playing WoW, but it's still nothing near like whatever is usually being portrayed. And I'd be afraid of breaking the damn controller if I smashed on the thing like they usually do.

It wasn't really a huge facepalm moment but a while ago I was in a pub with my friend one night when I happened to be wearing a Zelda shirt. Some guy came up to me and said the shirt was cool and he liked the Zelda games, but he thought they should be made for Xbox...
But they SHOULD be made for xbox. I don't want to buy the Wii because the only games I want on it are the Zelda games. I would make a deal with the devil to be able to play them on the xbox 360 or the PS3.

Personally I can't fault Persona 4 at all. It's up there chilling with UMVC3's Wesker in God Tier Land. Seriously I find it to be perfection person(a)ified

Note the word personally. I know people will find faults like "it's too foreign!" or "it has to many dialogue scenes!" Perfectly acceptable.

Perfection is in the eye of the beholder after all XP
The reason I don't consider fighting games to be a good example of why a given platform is good is that you can't just hand the controller to someone who's never touched a game and expect them to enjoy it. If I pop San Andreas or Grand Turismo 4 into my PS2, then hand the pad to George H. Bush, it could be reasonable to assume he would find something amusing to do in either one within a few minutes. If I hand him that same pad with Persona 4 stuck in the disc tray he will most likely get bored within a few minutes.
Yeah, Bush isn't the best example you can give to argue your point.

Anyway, to another story. I saw on Facebook a picture asking game makers (rather then developers) to make the original Pokemon with the size and graphics of Skyrim. Now, I'm not saying Skyrim is a small game but use its graphics.... really?

So, escapist, do you know people like this? What do you make of it? Share your stories.

Whenever something like this happens I don't know whether it makes me laugh or makes me insulted.
I think they meant the tech, rather than the art style.

I'm a loyal Treasure fan. I own all the Adventure Island and Fantasy Zone games. I'M the guy that knows games in my world

For starters of my knowledge, you're wrong.

Not to be too objective, but saying Zelda is the only reason you want a Wii and that they're the only games on Wii you'll love to death are entirely different things. Might I suggest the recent Xenoblade, or Sin and Punishment: Star Successor? Maybe even MadWorld and No More Heroes? Want an obscure one with a lot of story to invest in, then look for Fragile Dreams.

At the 3:00, this guy gets teleported into Half Life 1.

"I suck at this game, I can't get past level 1"
It is a freaking train ride, how can you not pass it? Did he stick his limbs out of the freaking train or something? Also, I hate it when they use "Level 1" when referring to video games.

Okay, now for my real post on the matter: Saying someone doesn't know much about games is stupid, even if they only know one title. No, really.

As far as well designed games go, what people take from the game is completely subjective. Comparing it to Mass Effect could've been him comparing it to the tactical co-op or the few dialogue choices, you don't know because you don't know what he took from Mass Effect.

That said, you can not know much about gaming as a medium, it's history, quality, or a quantity of titles.

There was an episode of House where he was playing a Gameboy Advanced SP and Metroid was in it. Apparently dying was turning into morph ball and getting an upgrade from the Chozo relic.

Actually, if I recall correctly (I didn't mention this in my OP), he said Black Ops 2 looked like Mass Effect and Halo because it was set in the future. Also, he has never played the Mass Effect games before so he had no idea what he was talking about.

Black Ops 2: Set in 2025
Mass Effect Games: Set in 2183-2186
Halo: Set in 26th century

See my point?

Ah. How I hate the people who think console exclusivity is the devil. Those that want to play Diablo 3 on the 360 because they do not want to invest in an 800 dollar gaming computer.
What? I think not wanting to splash out hundreds of quid for a new machine when you already have a functioning one is quite fair. Unless I misread you, of course, but I don't see what you find negative....
/my dumbness
Why did he say he hates people who say consoles are the devil then go on to say stuff about Diablo III.

Essentially your initial comment had nothing to do with a PC game or the need for one simply that Zelda appearing on a XBOX would be damn right near horrific and I think your main dislike was "People who don't grasp the concept of certain games only being available for certain things because that's how money is made"

Reminds me of an episode of the newer edition of the Twilight Zone, where the main is stuck in an arctic bunker with some evil guy and a bunch of other people.
In a search for other people, the main character finds a guy playing Halo (Albeit, the sounds are changed, probably for some copyright or something?). He mentions beating his high score, and being on the bonus level.
Being said, those are pretty generic terms for whatever it could be, and they probably didn't want to look like they were selling out to Bungie.
'Tis the video (Part 2 of the episode, if you want to see the entire episode). At the very start is the gaming mention, and at 3:30 is the bonus level part

Yes, but you're still missing mine. If THAT'S what he got out of the Mass Effect trailers and ads, then BioWare simply failed when advertising massively. Simple as. For all you know, he may have been identifying the recent trends of games slowly returning to sci-fi, yet on a more realistic level.

Or he was lazy and didn't research it before he decided to act like he knew about it.

Doesn't matter. The first moments of a game (Even in trailers) is all about conveyance. That's what was conveyed to him, so be it.
