I've known a few people who have tried to sound like they know games when they don't. These days it doesn't happen so much but back when Black Ops was in it's prime, people were considering themselves "hardcore gamers" when all they ever played was Black Ops and Battlefield. Usually I ended up shaking my head and walking away. Some of them had the good taste to branch out into stuff like Half-Life, Bioshock, and Diablo 2. Most just sat around declaring how awesome they were in Black Ops Zombies and looking at me weird when I called them fools for paying full-price for that year's Madden.

These days I don't see it very often if at all. Mostly what I see is graphics snobs at which point I usually point them in the direction of Team Fortress 2 or Minecraft. At which point they come back with embarrassed muttering because they liked it but don't want to admit it.

...Blizzard is actually testing a console version of Diablo III, and, according to one post, might release it if they like their build enough.

As for me, I'd like it on the 360 because then there (probably) won't be an always-on requirement, making the 360 version a far-superior version, and I'll be able to smile in smug satisfaction at people that willingly gave money to Blizzard for a shitty feature like Always-On DRM.
Indeed they have been! Personally I think it would work really well. Torchlight has already proven that a diablo-esque game can work on consoles so of course DIII could! Im guessing that the always online DRM could still be implemented on Xbox Live. Bare in mind that there are alot of games that have DLC where you have to be online to be able to play them such as Mass Effect. It wouldn't be that much more of a step forward (technically its going backwards).

I had a conversation with a girl about difficulty. She's one of those "OMG!! I'm a gaemr grrrl!!! SO WIERD!1!" types.

She owns a Nintendo Wii and an Xbox. On her Xbox, she has one game: Skyrim. Her Wii games consist of Wii Sports and various Mario titles.

She and I were discussing Skyrim (she liked to cozy up to blokes who played Vidya; I wasn't having any of it), and she asked me how I like to play. I told her I'm an assassin [sub]shhhhhhh![/sub] and that I play on Expert/Whatever-hard-is-called-in-different-games to give me an incentive to sneak, but if I am caught the combat is not un-winnable. In shooters, it simply gives me more of a challenge. Our conversation went something like this:

Her: Why do you play on Hard all the time though?

Me: Well, I like to be a Stealth Character, so I play on Hard to give me an incentive to sneak, but if I am caught the fights aren't un-winnable, just harder. In shooters and things it's just more fun.

Her: Yeah, but... That doesn't make sense.

Me: Why doesn't it?

Her: Well why would you play a game if you can't do it?

Me: I can do it, it's just harder.

Her: But where's the fun in it being harder? XD

As far as well designed games go, what people take from the game is completely subjective. Comparing it to Mass Effect could've been him comparing it to the tactical co-op or the few dialogue choices, you don't know because you don't know what he took from Mass Effect.
Actually, if I recall correctly (I didn't mention this in my OP), he said Black Ops 2 looked like Mass Effect and Halo because it was set in the future. Also, he has never played the Mass Effect games before so he had no idea what he was talking about.

Black Ops 2: Set in 2025
Mass Effect Games: Set in 2183-2186
Halo: Set in 26th century

See my point?
Yes, but you're still missing mine. If THAT'S what he got out of the Mass Effect trailers and ads, then BioWare simply failed when advertising massively. Simple as. For all you know, he may have been identifying the recent trends of games slowly returning to sci-fi, yet on a more realistic level.
Or he was lazy and didn't research it before he decided to act like he knew about it.
Doesn't matter. The first moments of a game (Even in trailers) is all about conveyance. That's what was conveyed to him, so be it.
Doesn't mean he can assume he knows what he's talking about. Pretty sure that if you were a physics professor and some random came out yelling inherently false things about physics you'd get pissed.

Not saying your friend is in the right(I'd side with you and cite things like San Andreas and GT4), but Persona 4 is not a 'god-tier' game. I'd call it average. It's only good if you like a relatively small niche of gaming, if you're not into fighting games you will most likely find it to lie somewhere between terrible and frustrating. You can't just pick it up and play like you can San An or GT4.
?? small niche? there's a niche for 'good JRPGS' now?

.......

should have drowned him anyway, not on the grounds of bashing P4 (which deserves a sledge to the knee caps by it self) but for uttering 'how good can it be, its on [system name here]', such ignorance should not be forgiven

It wasn't really a huge facepalm moment but a while ago I was in a pub with my friend one night when I happened to be wearing a Zelda shirt. Some guy came up to me and said the shirt was cool and he liked the Zelda games, but he thought they should be made for Xbox...
Ah. How I hate the people who think console exclusivity is the devil. Those that want to play Diablo 3 on the 360 because they do not want to invest in an 800 dollar gaming computer.
I don't know. I wouldn't make such a big investment to play one game.

I sometimes don't find the appeal of playing a game hard without incentive but I'm more of a story gamer but I'm pretty sure that girl can't argue that point if she plays Mario and Wii sports.

Fine... I give up too. You say tomato, I say tomato (doesn't work when you write it). I get angry when someone pretends they know everything about games and you don't. Individualisms a ***** aint it?

I don't typically befriend people like that. (People who play CoD I mean)

But now that you mention it a cross between Mass Effect and Halo sounds kind of nice.
(Just so long as it's Mass Effect's writing and Halo's gameplay, if it was the other way around that would suck)
Well the only thing Mass Effect and Halo have in common is that they're colorful, so that already bucks one trend of the CoD series. I'm glad to hear Activision's finally ditching the Graynbow.

It's reasonable to assume you won't like a game based on how you feel about games it's like.
Like I haven't liked any CoD games after the first one, so is it good to assume all games like CoD suck? No, but I do it anyway. I only talk shit about the ones I've actually played though, so I can at least pretend I have some moral high ground.

On the note of a Skyrim style Pokemon game.
That sounds good, and I wonder why they haven't done something like that yet.
Could you imagine roaming around the wilderness and having battles with wild roaming Pokemon?
That sounds amazing. Especially in the Skyrim engine, that would make them look fucking sweet.

So how about that Persona 4 fighting game guys? There's a combo break button. A goddamn combo break button. Fucking finally! 'S like an upgraded version of Skullgirls' Infinite Prevention System.

Do want nao.
I'm kind of obligated to say, "FUCK YEAH COMBO BREAK!". Anyways, this is really just internet in general, but whenever I play online with my headset, my mom pops out with this theory that what I hear are prerecorded voices that are trying to get me to leak out my personal information like my Social Security Number, zipcode, and pin number.

Jurassic Park is a great movie, but when that stupid little brat of a girl hopped on the computer (a specialized computer that even experienced programmers could not get through), and said

"Wait a second...this is a Unix system; I know this."

WHAT? That's like trying to find a password on a home computer and saying

"Wait a second...this is a Windows system; I know this."

On the other side of this (since the CSI/NCIS fails have been noted) in Shaun of the Dead, Nick Frost is playing Timesplitters 2. You can even see him pausing it when he has to turn around for the scene, then resuming. He doesn't get much done, nor is in any way related to the movie at all, but it is a helluva lot more accurate than the aforementioned /facepalm.

I have a neighbor who refuses to play any Nintendo games or even acknoledge the fact that they're games.
If he said he didn't like the games due to the aesthetic appeal being too colorful and stylized, I'd understand. However, when asked why he doesn't like the games, he responds with, "Because they're gay."
Yes, because playing games with a sweaty bald beef cake shirtless man killing everything with his two phalic weapons is the straightest thing ever. /sarcasm.

But really, I hate it when a person's reason for disliking something is the so vapid response, "Because it's gay." It just shows how ignorant they are.
