My general response is: "I game occasionally, but I used to be pretty hardcore about it."

It's the honest to goodness truth.

That about covers it right there. Also, if there are people you "need" to hide it from, then those people likely aren't that important to you anyway and so it wouldn't matter.

Edit: It even came up during the interview for my job, and it didn't seem to hurt anything there.

If it has nothing to do with the topic at hand, I won't bring it up. But, if someone were to ask, I'd tell them that I am a gamer.

It's already established among a lot of people that I'm a gamer. But if I were to tell it to someone who doesn't know me, I still probably wouldn't be embarrassed. The only time I'm embarrassed about gaming, is when I get up and start acting it out. Even though I couldn't resist the urge when I had to show a friend some of the new executions for "Gears of War 3".

Always.

I'm a mechanic. I'm surrounded by other mechanics all day. I DO NOT fit in with that crowd as a "gamer".

Ever.

when speaking to other males i'll tell them if they ask or if it comes up in conversation

When speaking to women, I usually wait to tell them until after I have been inside of them

No, never embaressed. But I don't really identify just as a gamer so it's not the first thing I tell people about.

It never really comes up. But if someone asks me, I usually just say, "Yeah, sure."

There's nothing embarrassing about telling people you play video games.
Introducing yourself as "a Gamer". On the other hand...

...lmao

Why would I be embarrassed? All my friends game too, and I'd not be interested in knowing someone who thought it was a big deal.

I'm not embarassed, but it's something I'll strategically omit if I think there's a good reason to do it. Usually in a networking situation moreso than among friends, and there I'd usually mention something like board games - it only draws positive attention.
