Was a bit iffy about whether or not to tell about my recent fiancee but when I did she reacted by telling her she plays video games sometimes. I knew there was at least 5 reasons I loved this girl and I just found out the 5th reason. ;D

I like this.

Me being a gamer usually doesn't come up in conversation, but when it does, I claim it proudly. It's only it comes up in conversation and I admit to being a gamer that I start to think about how silly it might sound to them.

I usually get excited if people mention gaming, and I'm not at all embarrassed to tell someone I game. Though I'd imagine my age (16) does help some.

I'm quiet in real life, so when people start talking about gaming .. that's one of the few topics I'm really comfortable talking about.
I'm the exact same.

The day I'm embarrassed to call myself a gamer is the day I hang up my controller and leave.

No way! I'm a gamer and proud of it. Gaming is a good, clean hobby that is more social then people think. It's because of video games and being a gamer that I have friends here in America.

No, but most people don't tend to ask any questions that lead me to need to tell them, and I rarely bother telling people anything they don't need to know.

Those who already know me would know that play computer games anyway.

Not that I call myself a "gamer" anyway. I think it's kind of stupid. You don't call yourselves readers, movie/TV-watchers, music-listeners and so on do you?

Yes, I used to. Back in elementary school, I talked about computer games all the time. I then found that that's not a very good way to make any friends. So in middle school, I basically stopped talking about things like that. Then I came to my senses, and in high school I decided to be a complete dork. I made sure people knew it.

Are you ever embarrassed to tell someone you're a gamer? A lot of people I know see gaming as immature, and "for little kids".

If someone asks, I'll tell them that I do. But I don't run around and yell that I do, either.
i am not embarrassed to say that i am a gamer as i could not care less what people think about it.

i never understood why people who play games care if others associate the word "gamer" with 'lonely, fat kids who live in their parents basement and do nothing by play games all day long' - among other stereotypes.

if that description doesn't apply to you, who cares what someone else believes?

Nah. If someone doesn't already know it's not really worth mentioning.
I don't deny it, but it doesn't spark much conversation with people nowadays.

Nope. Don't really see the point in being embarrassed about a hobby you enjoy.

I'm an American teenager.

Being embarrassed to tell someone I play the vidya is like saying I'm embarrassed for being a male.

If I'm around other girls, I tend to stay quiet about it. Not because I'm ashamed, I just can't be bothered with their fucking bullshit dirty looks over doing something un-girly.
Like for a lesson, I was put with three girls I don't really talk to who are the typical girly, blond, make-up clad gals.
They were talking about going shopping and how good it is, and how every girl loves shopping. I piped up that I didn't and the way I looked at me was absolutely hilarious. You'd think I'd killed a baby in front of them. They asked what I did like and I said gaming. They didn't talk to me ever again.
Around guys it's fine, which is why I usually befriend guys. I'm not one of those OH HAI GUIZ I PLAY GAMES EEEHEHEE GIVE ME ATTENSHUN! *flutters eyelids and pulls out Cooking Mama*
