My anger is only really directed agains the spoilt, selfish and offensive teenagers you get online who have no qualms whatsoever with abusing human players like they were AI bots. And not just the venomous language, the abusive insults and general airs of racism, homophobia and misogyny, but the attitude of 'if I'm a more skilled player than you, its perfectly ok for me to ruin your game for my enjoyment'.

Spawn killing (camping, trapping, whatever you want to call it, its the same thing) 'holding' or ignoring objectives so they can pad out their kill count by continuous spawn killing till they get bored or time runs out, and just slipping in that extra insult by teabagging or abusing your corpse, just because they can.

I'm 15, buy my own games, pretty much whatyou described, and I still think that more than half of the people in my age group who play video games fall under the steryotypical image that you desribed (at least in my school).

This is a terrible assumption on your part. I don't hate young gamers. I hate young PEOPLE.

Seriously, everyone between the ages of 12-24 needs to be sequestered on a fucking island where they can forage and fend off giant lizards and where the rest of society doesn't have to be exposed to their bullshit.
Wow, that's just... i don't know. For the lack of a better word "stupid".

Not only don't i get why you chose that spectrum of ages, but i don't see how you can justify such a grave generalization. Please explain to me how you can paint everyone with the same brush like that.

OT: Like others have said before it's not young gamers in general, but the tendencies that seem to apply to the majority of young gamers i.e. whiny little bitches who hide behind the anonymity of the internet and yell into microphones.
A common feature of satire is strong irony or sarcasm ? "in satire, irony is militant"[2]?but parody, burlesque, exaggeration, juxtaposition, comparison, analogy, and double entendre are all frequently used in satirical speech and writing. This "militant" irony or sarcasm often professes to approve (or at least accept as natural) the very things the satirist wishes to attack.

Please note I'm quoting Wikipedia here, I don't want to be held responsible for any inaccuracies.

I just hate immature babble and immature attitudes. It's not only the whiny, high-pitched voices, but it's the ignorant things very young people say that make me cringe. That and a lot of them are spoiled rotten, coddled/babied by their parents, and it shows in the selfish way they play group games and the things they say.

You don't fit this mold though, so youre safe from my wrath :>

In that case... Please note that sarcasm doesn't translate well onto the internet unless made blatantly obvious(Which i guess yours was, but as this rule illustrates you can never be sure).

Note i'm not quoting anyone as this seems to be a general rule of thumb online.

This is a honest question. I only ask you respect it. I'm 15 and I'm sure that makes some of you have a surge of anger or resentment towards me. I understand that you have these feelings, but I don't understand why. I am not the kind of teen who plays Black Ops all night over and over. I enjoy a wide variety of genres and I am not a console fanboy. I own the 3 current "in" consoles, using money I've earned from my summer job and money from my birthdays and gifts from Christmas. I'm not the little shit who stays in his room and ignores his parents. I've enjoyed all the great games many of you do, and I share your love of games. So why the hate? Please share your anger about my gaming generation and how to improve my interaction with the older members of the gaming community so I can improve my interaction with you all.
Thank you so much for reading.
my issue is that i view online games as a social medium, i use them to meet and discuss things with people i dont usually come across. but the games i play and talk about most (castle crashers, oblivion, fable 2 and 3, and borderlands as examples) always come off as needy, screechy, assholes.

it never fails in borderlands or castle crashers, the first words out of their mouths:
"CAN I HAVE MODDED GUNS PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?!?!?!?"
and
"HEY IS ANYONE LEVEL 256?!?! CAN YOU BOOST ME PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZEEEEEEEEEE?!?!?!".

i am only too happy to help people having trouble with games, but (for oblivion) my patience runs a tad thin after i give you very specific direction on how to get here, or how to get around this bug FIVE TIMES. i have met and enjoy the company of gamers of any age, but every now and again, you just find this gamer that is insufferable

edit: split it up into paragraphs to make it eaisier to read

I take total responsibility. I thought my repeated emphasis on children being attacked and devoured by giant lizards was sufficient evidence that I was not being entirely sincere, but I see that I was mistaken.

im 19 so im not sure if im still a "young gamer" or not but when speaking of gamers of around 15 years of age i dont hate them i have no reason to. wat i do hate r the kids that just use their mic to say one of two things: "OMG U FUKING NOOB!!" when they get killed or "HAHAHA U FUKING SUCK BALLS NOOB!!!" when they kill someone. Mics are to socialize or strategize not to spout nonsense with high pitched voices. I also hate their overuse of the word "noob" as apparantly anyone but them is one.

I'd be quite a hypocrite if I hated you for gaming, but even I get annoyed by those people who just won't keep quiet. And since I don't have a mike, I can't even ask them to.

Like i said, you can never be too sure. There're some crazy people out there, and i know one or two others who would with honesty and intent get behind what you were saying. Suffice to say they're more like people i know "of" rather than know "well". Anyways... good to know noone's comdemning anyone around here :D

It's been said before, but I'll reiterate, because it's my take as well.

I'm not sure of the "hate" you're speaking of, though "hate" seems to have become synonymous with "annoyance" and many gamers both young and old do annoy me. You don't seem to hold their spirit, so I doubt this applies to you, but what annoys me about them?

Well, it's mostly this...

Gaming used to be a bit of an underground thing, the thing for nerds, gamers were the weird kids the jock kind of twats picked on and harassed. In recent years, gaming has made the natural evolution to being a more socially accepted thing, which is good. Unfortunately, this means the jock-type twat mentality has also come along for the ride, so you get entire genres of games, forums and groups built almost exclusively around this macho posturing trash-talking bullshit. Outdated male impulsed our species needed to abandon generations ago are catered to with dipshits actually bragging and arguing over which system is best, who has the highest kill ratio, the best Street Fighter in the world and on and on. For all of the nonsense 'gaming' could easily be replaced with 'their cars' and you'd get roughly the same results in practice.

Me and mine, we still just game for fun. It's great to socialize across a mic, chat up a friend a bit across the globe while busting skulls in Splatterhouse or share the fight in Heavy Weapon. But all this competitive alpha behaviour garbage has to go.

Like everyone else has said, most have no problem with young gamers in particular, only the ones who are obnoxious and ignorant. What bothers me about the OP though is that you could not figure this out on your own. Clearly you have more brain cells to rub together than most 15 year olds, so couldn't you figure out you're not the problem on your own? No offense, but it kind of seems like you just want attention, like many 15 year olds do.

I hate little kids on TF2. I'm 16, so I kinda count in the area of hatred, but I'm not a fucking asshole so people don't mind me. I think it's just assholes playing CoD who give younger gamers bad names. I know some decent younger gamers.

Most of my frustration comes from watching my cousins who can't seem to beat any of the games they own. Or younger siblings who want flash games over ps3 games.

That's really expanded my eyes on the subject, and I agree, hate is confused with annoy constantly. The thing that bothers me is that after a match on MW2 or Reach I'll say "Good game guys" and a random manchild will shout out "Shut up you ****** kid" That is the raw hate that I have a hard time understanding. But seriously, kudos on that post.

Play Minecraft, Call of Duty, or any other popular game populated largely by kids under the age of 16 and you'll understand why most people generalize. I remember gaming at the age of 13, 14, 15, etc. I just never went on the mic, or revealed my age, and people don't give you shit. Honestly, it's not that hard, I had maybe two times in three years I was called a "dumb kid" or something similar.

Not sure if it's really my place to post, seeing as how I'm only 16 myself, but I'll take a stab at it.

Little kids, of any age, whether it be 8, or 12, have had their daddy go out and buy them a game that is wholly inappropriate for them. Therefore, because they have something that, in essence, they shouldn't really have, they view themselves as the shit. They then discover VOIP, and their obnoxious, whiny, spoiled personalities flourish, and emerge, accompanied by a torrent of high-pitched noises, which are, more often than not, homophobic and offensive slurs, which again, they see as cool because they shouldn't really be saying them.

It all comes down to bad parenting really. A good parent will assess a child's mental stability and maturity, and then, based on those two factors, allow them certain games, and disallow them others. For example, as much as my little brother of 7 says that he likes it, I will refuse to let him watch Bioshock 2 or Borderlands, because it is not good for him.

Also, not all children are twats. I've come across the odd mature, stable 13-year-old who is intelligent and articulate on VOIP. It just doesn't happen often.
