No, no I would not sign up. A country is just a place thats been hemmed in by imaginary lines by people. In reality theres no such thing as a country and I could care less who rules. Makes no difference to me. So long as I have my freedom it doesnt matter in the least to me who controls what.

A zombie or Nazi or zombie-nazi upheaveal would be about the ONLY things that would get me to sign up for military service. Call me crazy but unless theres an undead German slavering at my door begging for a face full of buckshot, I'm not going to go to a hellhole halfway across the world to try and make things better with a spray of bullets and copious amounts of jogging.

I'm already trained and currently in reserves. However, when it comes down to war....

War is almost the worst possible thing on this Earth. I think that whomever goes to war is morally a criminal (this includes me).

The fact that sometimes war is necessary isn't a point in favour of war, it's a point against us as a species.

So yes, I would pick up my rifle, don the uniform and do the job they trained me for. I wouldn't be happy about it, but I would do it.
You are a person of intelligence. WHich is a rare trait these days. Good call sir.

I wouldn't I hate fighting. War should be decided by a game of checkers, or chess, or even a friendly game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock!

I know full well that I'd be put up for treason just for applying to any military; I'd ignore commanding officers, shirk any duties assigned to me by these random strangers, refuse to use firearms regardless of the situation, frequently ask why our governmental leaders aren't just mud-wrestling instead of sending innocent people out to die for their petty issues, and I'd be openly telling these things to a recruiter while yawning and blocking out any response they'd have.

Now, if someone threatens a friend or family member personally, it's teeth, nails, and enough dirty fighting to cause a doubletake for anyone who knew me while they question, "She's a pacifist?"
Will you marry me? ^_^ lol

Yes, immediately. As I have said before, I would fight and die for Ireland. Assuming the war wasn't an act of aggression on our part, and we were in danger of being attacked, then yes, certainly.

Frontline combat too, I can't imagine being much good at anything else. I wouldn't want it to have to extend to conscription though.

And were we to lose the conflict, I'd simply take my rifle, scatter to the forests and conduct a war of attrition!
I would fight for Ireland as well, even though I'm not from there. It's just too beautiful a country to get taken down by war.

I'd sign up to protect my loved ones, not for the country. It can be over flooded for all I care.
But it would probably lead us from moving to America or Norway.

I could but I'm lazy so I'll just say that his comment is a stupid childish thoughtless brain fart that isnt in any way grounded in reality. It is also a dengerous sentiment that if enough people had we'd turn into a war nation. Depending on which nation you maybe from, this being the internet and all, you may already be a war nation. *Shrugs*

Dont think I quoted that quite right but its close enough.

*sigh* You don't Understand two things. Firstly: I'm Israeli, that changes my situation abit.
Secondly: You, and most of this site confuse patriotism and agreeing with the goverment. I HATE the current Israeli goverment, Netaniyau can go stick his head in the ground for all I care, but I have respect for my country. If war breaks, I will follow this idiot with all of my heart, because with all of our dissagreements, there is one thing that unites us, and all the other 7 4 3 million citizens of Israel. We are all Israelis.

I'm not having a go or anything, but does it have to be patriotism to fight for yor country to preserve it's history and culture, Even if you don't like the country you don't want it to get stomped out. I'm not saying war is good, but to save your country you might have to declare war.

Tough, my country can go screw itself(It does that all the time anyway).
They try a draft and I'll try and dodge it. I find it impossible being evil on Fallout 3, let alone killing someone in real life.

Plus I've always wanted to be pursued by The Man. For the thrill of the chase, you know.

And there in lies the danger. It has nothing to do with the government. The inherent danger in patriotism is that it can be used as a tool to rally people to a flimsy cause and use said people to wage war on innocents for the flimsiest of reasons.
As I said in another post, a country is just a piece of land. Its nothing special.

Is culture and history worth the lives of people? I dont think so. Freedom yes. No one wants to be subjugated. Freedom is one of the few things that I would fight for. But not for some pathetic sentimental ideal that our countries history and culture must be protected at all costs.

Nah, I'd stay home leave the fighting to the real men. And when almost every man in my country has died, I'll "repopulate" the entire country!*Evil Grin* (provided we win of course)

Or just move to another neutral country, like Switzerland.

Unless it was Zombies (shotgun, chainsaw and badassery and I'm ready), or hot women "snu-snu'ing" people to death...

without culture and history your country will lose it's identity, it will just become a area called (whatever the country is)

In defence, quite probably. If a war involved our soldiers invading another country then I would only partake if I agreed with the reasons for it. Also if there was conscription involved without an immediate threat to the UK it'self I would be actively against it.
