No. Screw that. My country's nice, but I'm not dying for a country. I'd die for a person, even a stranger, before I died for a country.
Also this. A country is just a line on a map (broadly speaking, I know you have the extreme places) and that can be redrawn, a person can't be reborn (depending on your faith system of course).latenightapplepie said:I'd die for a person, even a stranger, before I died for a country.
If I knew 100% then yes. But in the real world you never know anything 100%. Here's the basic formula for military service: Invading another country = No, Defending my homeland = Yes.YouCallMeNighthawk said:Invading a different country can be defensive, as they say a good defense is a good offense.Flames66 said:In defence, quite probably. If a war involved our soldiers invading another country then I would only partake if I agreed with the reasons for it.
let's say the situation, you knew a country was 100% going to try and invade you and kill everyone, best thing to do is get there 1st invade them so they don't get the oppotunity.
would you fight for that?
I prefer something more mobile, that's why I have an emperor class battleship floating around in case I need it.Hubilub said:If my country was in crisis I'd probably leave for a safer country.
Or the moon. Anywhere I'm safe, really.
I fully agree with you. I mean I wouldn't fight if my country chooses to attack in the name of something they believe in (but I don't). However if we were being invaded I'd be first in line to sign up. Defend my family, my friends and what I've lived for...no question. Though if my country invaded for a set of values (lets say freedom, knocking down a dictator, stopping evil of some sort) I might sign up. But really I'd definitely against invasion.Furburt said:Yes, immediately. As I have said before, I would fight and die for Ireland. Assuming the war wasn't an act of aggression on our part, and we were in danger of being attacked, then yes, certainly.
Frontline combat too, I can't imagine being much good at anything else. I wouldn't want it to have to extend to conscription though.
And were we to lose the conflict, I'd simply take my rifle, scatter to the forests and conduct a war of attrition!
No . I would run to another country to avoid the draft.YouCallMeNighthawk said:Hello fellow escapee's! second thread here, hope you like it
(any grammar problems, just tell me)
I was sitting here watching military history channel and as usual i would daze of thinking about if i was in that war and whether i would survive and it and so on. (does anybody else do that?)
But the real question i propose to you is, If your country was in crisis would you sign up for the army?
I mean as in threat of invasion. Like the nazi's were thinking of invading england. I would definetly sign up! as i would feel a sense of pride in trying to protect my family and friends by fending of the savage beasts!
