No. Screw that. My country's nice, but I'm not dying for a country. I'd die for a person, even a stranger, before I died for a country.

I wouldn't fight and/or die for England as the whole patriotism thing seems a bit flawed really, just seems to be based on the mindset of 'This country is better than yours because I was born here, yeah!'. Wahey.

That said, I would gladly put myself in the way of anything that threatens anyone I love or stops me living how I would want to, other than that....meh.

Guess that makes me sound kinda selfish really but, well, that's how it is.

EDIT;

Also this. A country is just a line on a map (broadly speaking, I know you have the extreme places) and that can be redrawn, a person can't be reborn (depending on your faith system of course).

No way. My country disgusts me. Furthermore I think no war is about the common population but about governments and I don't like being used.

In defence, quite probably. If a war involved our soldiers invading another country then I would only partake if I agreed with the reasons for it.
Invading a different country can be defensive, as they say a good defense is a good offense.
let's say the situation, you knew a country was 100% going to try and invade you and kill everyone, best thing to do is get there 1st invade them so they don't get the oppotunity.

would you fight for that?
If I knew 100% then yes. But in the real world you never know anything 100%. Here's the basic formula for military service: Invading another country = No, Defending my homeland = Yes.

War is hell, luckily I will never be drafted. come WW3 I'll be breaking my back in some civilian orientated task force.

The army washed it's hands of me a long time ago, i sincerely doubt they will ever be desperate enough to arm me.

If my country was in crisis I'd probably leave for a safer country.

Or the moon. Anywhere I'm safe, really.
I prefer something more mobile, that's why I have an emperor class battleship floating around in case I need it.

No, I wouldn´t, I´m to much of a chicken.
Well, anyway not for the fighting.

I would perhaps sign up as a nurse in a field hospital or something like that.
But beeing without any kind of medical training, I would not be of much use.
But if they trained me, I would try to help.
I would do that for (almost) any side of the war, though.

No because I'd probably be the most incompetent soldier on the field who would only hinder military function. Of course, that's assuming I make it through boot camp alive by some miracle.

I literally can't join an army because of physical conditions that can't be fixed. lol

My entire rib cage is shifted to a slant form one accident, and makes it really hard to breathe normally if I have to run or anything like that. My knees don't go straight forward like they should because my bones grew faster than my tendons could keep up with, so I can't crouch for long. And if I do, I can't move very well when I stand up again. My back is really bad from an old job. I'm pretty much blind in one eye... and I think that's all they'd be concerned about. lol

If I was physically able to serve in a military, I might do it, but it depends on what kind (Navy, Marines, and so on).

Nope. I'd protect my family, but I'd protect them by taking them to a country that's not at war. Seems much more sensible. I have no love for this country.

No I would not sign up and if they tried to draft me I would be out of the country in the quickness.

Yes, immediately. As I have said before, I would fight and die for Ireland. Assuming the war wasn't an act of aggression on our part, and we were in danger of being attacked, then yes, certainly.

Frontline combat too, I can't imagine being much good at anything else. I wouldn't want it to have to extend to conscription though.

And were we to lose the conflict, I'd simply take my rifle, scatter to the forests and conduct a war of attrition!
I fully agree with you. I mean I wouldn't fight if my country chooses to attack in the name of something they believe in (but I don't). However if we were being invaded I'd be first in line to sign up. Defend my family, my friends and what I've lived for...no question. Though if my country invaded for a set of values (lets say freedom, knocking down a dictator, stopping evil of some sort) I might sign up. But really I'd definitely against invasion.

Hello fellow escapee's! second thread here, hope you like it :)
(any grammar problems, just tell me)

I was sitting here watching military history channel and as usual i would daze of thinking about if i was in that war and whether i would survive and it and so on. (does anybody else do that?)

But the real question i propose to you is, If your country was in crisis would you sign up for the army?

I mean as in threat of invasion. Like the nazi's were thinking of invading england. I would definetly sign up! as i would feel a sense of pride in trying to protect my family and friends by fending of the savage beasts!
No . I would run to another country to avoid the draft.

I'm not sure but probably not. I mean sure i'd like to help but I can't see myself as an army man, instead I may join the rebellion, in case we lose, cause as we all know, the rebellion always wins!
