I honestly don't give a fuck if a band or an artist is the most well known, or the most underground ever.

That's just some pretentious bullshit. Like hating or loving something because it's popular or not.

I really don't know if Kino qualifies as mainstream or not, considering Viktor Tsoi and consequently the band died 20 years ago, never got any recognition because rock music was hated by the gov't in the USSR, but was absolutely loved by everybody else.

You know what, screw the mainstream/nonmainstream clause of the OP. Kino is just one awesome band, and every single Russian will agree with me on this.

OT: My favorite non-mainstream band would have to be Screaming Females. They are just great all around fantastic guitar playing, awesome bass lines, and really tight drumming. I couldn't really ask for more from a band.
