list the bands you love that no one seems to know about cause they aren't mainstream.

Some bands i like that fall under this catogory:

-Brad Sucks
-Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly!
-Aesop Rock
-Band of Horses
-The Unicorns
-Brand New
-TV on the Radio

and for some reason none of my friends seem to know who Phoenix or Bloc Party are which is wierd to me.

So post bands (any genre of course) that you like that you don't think are as big as they should be or that no one else knows about and maybe a youtube video or something of there best song to get a preview.

TVOTR and Bloc party are awesome. I am ashamed I don't know the rest, I did see a guy from Get Cape... on Nevermind the Buzzcocks once

I've never pursued this very far, but around my college a lot of people have never heard of Pavement or Built To Spill.

I've seen them live a few times. I think Neil is a pretty funny guy.

My favorite band that no one i know excluding one friend knows of or listens too is Electric Six and I feel like a broken record saying it because I dunno how many times I have!
These are the songs that made me start listening to them
YESYESYES! I saw Gaybar on MTV once and it was a revelation. I starting singing; 'YOU, I wanna take you to a gaybar' to everyone, now my whole class knows it:D

Anamanaguchi is like 8-bit soundscapes with guitar drums and bass thrown in.

Tokyo Police Club is indie

BigElf is fairly unknown but are gaining renown from the prog nation 09 tour with Dream Theater I'm sure (it's where I found out about them). They are like a modern day Black Sabbath or Pink Floyd.

Afterlives - shoegaze/noise rock multi-instrumentalist putting together some great stuff.
Agalloch - great Dark Folk band from Washington state, very good stuff, think of it as a better opeth
Airiel - awesome overlooked shoegaze band
Alamaailman Vasarat - polish metal/ska band, if you dig Diablo Swing Orchestra, this band is awesome.
Alcest - Black metal influenced Shoegaze from Niege, a genious multi-instrumentalist from france.
The American Dollar - Post rock/electronic band, great to chill out to
Amesoeurs - side project of Niege from above, more punk influenced stuff.
Arctic Plateau - shoegaze/atmospheric rock from italy. very good stuff
Astronautalis - very imaginative hip hop artist out of florida.

That's just the A's ;)

It's not so much unheard-of bands and artists but ones that should be seen as great that aren't. "Red House Painters" and "American Music Club" are two bands from the late 80s/early 90s that really should be thought of in the same breath as any of the great bands of that era, like REM and U2. Also bands like "Mission Of Burma" and "Husker Du"

Also underground hip-hop, like Cannibal Ox (someone said that above, which reminded me), Quasimoto, MF Doom, Deltron 3030. All the hip-hop and rap haters on this site should listen to this before they open their mouths or their vole-like mits to carp about "crap rap" again.

Christ. A lot of you are living in denial if you think people haven't heard of Brand New, Death Cab and Electric Six. EVERYONE knows who Electric Six are. Come on, Gay Bar, High Voltage, Dance Commander and that Radio Ga Ga cover? Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly were on at Reading festival. Modest Mouse is pretty big too.
This guy speaks the truth.

Anyway - Grafton Primary and South Central. Both are excellent.

Municipal Waste, i got all my friends into this amazing crossover thrash band but other than that no one has heard of them.

Wretched, an amazing new melodic death metal band.

Wintersun, epic metal band from finland, you can't even find their cd where i live.
