For modern nothing can compare to Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia.
I couldn't agree more, those are two of my favorite series.
I also like the Redwall series and most of the books by Dianna Wynn Jones, mostly the Derkholm series and the Eight Days of Luke.
Redwall is another great series that I really enjoyed. Could you pick a favorite from that series if you had to? I haven't heard of the others but will have to check them out.
My favorite Redwall book? Probably Mattimeo. Have you ever read his other series, Castaways of the Flying Dutchman. They're also pretty good.
Describing the Derkholm series would take too long, but Eight Day of Luke would really appeal to someone who likes Norse mythology, specifically the god Loki.
I almost forgot, I'm also a huge fan of the Artemis Fowl books.
It's funny, I'm a huge fan of fantasy books, but the Harry Potter series doesn't even make it on my Top 5 or even my Top 10(maybe at the bottom,) I like it but it'll never be my favorite.
