How about the P 1500 Monster.

This tank was never put into service because it was just waaaay to massive. As tanks get bigger the problems associated with them, the main one being moving over terrain, become evne more problematic. This tank was a mobile platform for a rail gun (not electromagnetic weapon, but the old meaning: A big gun on rails) that fired a seven TON shell almost 40 Kms. It would of, if it wasn't so impractical, been a monster indeed.

As for some of the other weapons put forth here: They where practical and many are still being viewed, such as the Mossin, as able to fill the role meant for them even sixty years down the track. I wouldn't say these weapons where impractical, illegal, expensive, or just obsolete...

The monster... well it was all of the above (well aside from illegal but who knows, they could of been raining incendiaries).

I seriously wonder what the design brief was like when they designed essentially a light machinegun with a 20-round clip. It's still badass though.

In order to make this commernt somehow relevant, I'll offer up two weapons that I wish could be in service:
The M2 flamethrower [link](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M2_flamethrower)[/link] from World War 2, if only because flamethrowers are brilliant.
The MGL grenade launcher [link](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milkor_MGL)[/link]. I know that it's not technically "out of service", but since it isn't in full use either, I felt it merited inclusion.

The X8 rifle. Damned shame they cancelled that, it looks sexy, really future-ish. Would've loved to see that as the next standard rifle, but nooooo....

I for one can't figure out just why they scrapped the program, particularly with metal storm looking to be the next best thing in grenade launchers. An electronically fired and detonated 25 mm grenade, stacked MS style, would be a wonderful addition to any assault rifle out there. And... they scrap one of the few weapon systems looking at this type of explosive round coupled with a standard assault rifle!

Those are quite good rifles... and all my other favourites are still in use somewhere.

You'd be suprised, the Lee Enfield is still used in combat situations (not to mention it's the Dress rifle of most Commonwealth cadets) due to it's accuracy.

the M14. it was the replacement to the m1, since it had a larger magazine, looked cooler and had a higher fire rate.

Isn't that still used by the... Marines or whatever who guard the whitehouse? or some other place.
I remember massacring them on Hitman blood Money.

The M14 is still widely used in the Army and Marine Corps (I don't know about Navy or Airforce), as a Designated Marksman's rifle, there are some with more modern synthetic stocks, rail attachments, and what have you, but the M14 still sees a LOT of action.


I'm going to go with my two favorite, non-bolt action rifles:
