I'm not old enough to own a gun. If you count the toy guns then it was just a piece of wood in the shape of a gun (long time ago). But the first gun I plan on getting is either a HK USP .45 or a Scoped Springfield (I wanna be in a WWII reenactment). But the first real gun (BB are just pansy to me) I shot was a M1 Garand (good times).

Don't own a gun, but if I ever do, it'll be the Smith & Wesson 5946 9mm Double Action Only (I'd insert a picture, but honestly, it just looks like a gun). It's the standard issue sidearm for the RCMP. If I don't get into the RCMP (or another police force) I'll have no reason to own a gun, and thus will never get one.

I never have owned a real gun, but I remember the first time I shot one. I shot a Dr. Pepper can pyramid with buckshot. Fun times

Damn, thats a nice one, a little overkill though, that thing is designed to take out people wearing body armor! If you got the money though, I say go for it.

Personally my first gun was my Dad's old .22 rifle.

What was it? or if you will be a gun owner Which one will you buy?

On my 21st birthday i am gonna pick up this lil beauty:

Its mainly of self defense, The way society is progressing you dont know when shit will hit the fan.

Serious answers are appreciated (someone will say BFG 9000) but whatever, have fun with it.

EDIT: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. THIS ISNT A THREAD ABOUT GUN RIGHTS! IF YOU DONT WANT ONE THEN FINE! STOP JUDGING THOSE WHO WILL BUY ONE OR ALREADY OWN ONE. Take your opinions to the right place, they will be appreciated and this is not the right thread to start a gun ownership debate.
I have a Five-Seven, and it is an EXCELLENT pistol, but it is NOT the greatest thing for self defense as it doesn't really hit all that hard. The only real reason that this particular weapon exists is to put lots of very small holes in well-armored things.

It is GREAT for target shooting, and it is a GREAT conversation piece as not very many people can afford to own/fire them. The only real plus on the combat side is that it can hold 20+1 rounds and it can penetrate medium level body armor (with the proper round that is NOT available on the civilian market).

If you feel so inclined to pick one up, I would suggest seeking out some of the hollow points that FN makes for it. They are somewhat tuogh to find, but they would be better suited for the self-defense role, but they will still overpenetrate quite a bit (I have tested this with water jugs and compared it to other rounds like the .45ACP). Although, the 5.7x28mm round has a habit of tumbling when it enters a target, so you may be ok. I have never shot at a living thing with it, so I have little practical experience with how the round behaves in soft tissue.

I also feel as though I should point out that holsters are VERY tough to find!

Oh... And my first gun was a Ruger 10/22. I still love that thing, but I don't shoot it as often as I should. :( I need to take it to the range one of these days so it knows I still love it. :D

Ah, at first I didn't know either, but apparently it's from "Italian Spiderman". I looked it up on youtube. It's hilarious. :D

Hmmm...
The handgun (or one of the handguns) I plan on one day picking up is this:
They do cost quite a bit, so I will only get one under special circumstances.
Yes, that is a Gyrojet Pistol.
Yes, the rounds are miniature rockets.
Yes, it is beautiful.
I almost picked one of those up on gunbroker.com for about $3000. I decided against it when I read that they often don't fire due to the 'rocket' getting stuck on the rear-facing hammer. They are also ineffective at close range since the 'rocket' has to pick up speed.

I have to admit though... There is something completely badass about being able to carry a rocket launcher in your jacket pocket.

That's a nice looking piece, I see that its an FN but what model is it? Looks like it fires those crazy 5.7mm rounds like the P90.
Its a FN Five-seveN. yep it shoots 5.7 hence the name. I fired one before and just fell in love with it. It is light and easy to fire not to mention fucking SEXY
Yeah man, that's definitely a sexy firearm ;) Fabrique Nationale know how to make some seriously hot looking weapons, like the P90, the F2000 and if you're a COD, Ghost Recon or Rainbow 6 fan you already know about the SCAR. I was just looking at the FN website and the FNP9-17 looks like a nice little match-grade pistol, too.

Toys for big boys, gotta love 'em.

It costs between $1000-1200 i probably have to start saving up a year before im gonna buy it. And yes i will get a safe, a good one. Im not gonna be one of those idiots that shoots a friend or gets shot by a drunk friend. My gun will be in the safe unloaded and ammo beside the gun. Gun safety is pretty important to me
Well, $1000 isn't too bad, but if I was in your position I'd rather buy a cheap shotgun or revolver and spend the extra money on video games :)
Don't need to train to be a good shot with a shotgun, if you hear intruders just pump the action and yell with your best redneck impersonation: "GIT OF MAH PROPERTAHH!" where if they have even and ounce of intelligence they'll run like hell which I'd consider an ideal outcome.

But before you bother with a gun, get a decent burglar alarm. Way more valuable than any gun as you will be warned of any intruders and any siren will highly encourage them to leave. Other features like motion-sensor activated lights outside your residence will discourage nosy criminals skulking around in the dark and are a convenient indicator of people sneaking around outside your place for you to intervene.

Now I must confess I am only an armchair armourer and live in the UK where firearms are all but banned but the internet is an amazing thing and I've found hyper-velocity .22LR or .22WMR calibre semi-auto rifles fire bullets of almost identical diameter and weight at very similar velocities. But semi-auto rifles in .22LR or .22WMR are much cheaper than an FN Five Seven and I the ammo is much cheaper too to make it much easier to shoot a lot and get proficient.

I read an article (can't find it now) arguing that a .22 semi-auto rifle was an idea home defence weapon as it was:
1) cheap to buy, cheap to train with, cheap to become a GOOD shot with
2) rifles are inherently easier to aim due to stock, longer sight radius + foregrip
3) very low recoil so less likely to miss even with rapid fire
4) unlike a shotgun or centre-fire pistol (including FN Five Seven) it doesn't have a large muzzle blast that deafens/blinds when used in confined spaces.
5) isn't "intimidating" to any jury should some public prosecutor try some trumped up charges

But I have to admit I'd still like to own a gun like the Five Seven, not for self defence. I mean I don't want to own a Bugatti Veyron because I NEED to go over 200 miles per hour, no, I want a Veyron because it is COOL! I Want a Five Seven and an Uzi as well because they are COOL and I hate how everything in life has to have some practical justification.

I say if you can afford it and you are legally allowed to and you REALLY want one, go for it. Ah, but make a youtube video of you shooting things with it, hell you could even do a "gun porn" video:

<youtube=zvrho37bQrQ>

Yeah, don't ask.

(PS, that song is "Oh yeah" by Yello in case you are wondering)

My first gun was a .22 rifle that belonged to my great grandfather. It's a family heirloom, so I cherish it.

If you want something for defense, look to the .357 or .40, they both have a 97-98% one hit take down with hollow point ammo.
Remember that those are common police rounds and police are trained shooters, so you can't give all of the credit to the round. Any decent caliber round hitting in the black, esp. the center abdomen where police are trained to shoot, will give pretty much the same result.

For personal defense, a large caliber round like a .45 Colt or .45 Special is generally recommended as it is big enough to transfer all of its energy to the target even if it's not a center or square hit, plus it moves slower, reducing overpenetration which can endanger innocents.

Also, amateurs invariably shoot high due to overtension in the arms and shoulders because of the stress of the situation. A large caliber round uses a larger, heavier weapon, so amateurs actually shoot better in close range due to the weight of the weapon - it steadies their aim more than a lighter, "handier" weapon does.

First gun was a Remington 30-06, which I took hunting as a kid. Frankly most of my guns are not for self defense (I have an old .38 S&W Chiefs Special for that). I am a collector. The only time the guns I own come out of the safe (besides the .38) are when they are being cleaned or being shot. I also use the .38 loaded with shot shells for snakes and the such.

It's a Springfield 9mm XD handgun. Hardly any kick to it.
Also, I figured out that if you're aiming like in Call of Duty, ur doin it rong!
Shot off both the target's ears, then clean above his left eye. FEAR ME.
Still have the first two shells and my target, it was a big thing for me :)
