I guess technically Linkin Park, but I remember seeing a TV ad for Hybrid Theory and thinking 'OMG, this is awful!'

The one and only Iron Maiden. I am a little ashamed to say that it's becasue of Guitar Hero... At least it was Guitar Hero 2, which is, in my opinion better than 3.

The first trüe metal band I got into was Pantera.
Edit: That also explains my love of party metal (A lot of thrash falls into this category. Exodus, Municipal Waste, Anthrax, Evile, etc.)

Breaking Benjamin got me along the hard rock route, shortly followed by Metallica, which opened the door to the wonderful world of Metal. I closed it behind me and apparently lost the key.

Iron Maiden was the first band that really got me listening to other metal, but I guess the first metal band I ever listened to would be Pantera or Static-X.

Sepultura or possibly Metallica, or maybe G'n'R. It was many moons ago and my memories are cloudy at best.

Iron Maiden. I actually first heard the song Trooper as a cover in GH2 (yes i know, lame as hell). I bought a Greatest hits collection to try it out and was absolutely stricken to the ground with awesomness. Now I listen to almost every type of metal there is, but Iron Maiden is still one of my favorites.

Metallica and GNR growing up. The band that tipped the scales completely into my full on love for metal was Type O Negative.

Death. More specifically, Death's The Sound Of Perseverance opened the door for me to truly begin liking metal. Soon afterward, I was enjoying bands like Opeth, Dark Tranquillity, Kamelot, Epica, Testament, and In Flames.

Before that I did listen to the usual, popular "metal" bands like Slipknot, Mudvayne, Disturbed, SOAD, etc. But after hearing the bands that I listed above, these radio bands started to sound bland and boring.
