The first and (so far) only song I've mastered? Zombie, by the Cranberries, both guitar parts. (Obviously, I play electric guitar.)

I've been out of practice for months because of lack of space, but I'm hoping to get back in after moving in a couple months. (And maybe getting a piano... first thing I'm learning on that is the Saw theme.)

I took piano for quite a while. The first song I really mastered was William Tell's Overture. Exciting little song.

"Lake of Fire", originally written by the Meat Puppets, but the version I learned was the one performed by Nirvana (along with the Meat Puppets) on their "Unplugged in New York" album. I was so proud when I mastered that relatively simple solo at the end, and its still a song that I love playing.

Way back then the first songs I learnt in full and mastered were Master of Puppets and One, both rhythm and lead parts. Since then my musical tastes have grown a great deal and I play all kinds of crazy shit

On guitar, it was Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd (just the intro, the progression is still strange to me and I never learned all the words. great song tho)

On drumset, I jammed with kids all the time before I got with these guys to learn No One Knows by Queens of the Stone Age for my senior year at talent show. 300lb. Dave Grohl? Fuck yea, that's me.

"Nothing else matters" by Metallica. Got drunk one night and decided to learn the intro. Was up all goddamn night trying to nail it, when to class the next morning with bloody fingers and a sense of accomplishment. The rest followed shortly after.
I recently played that for a school music yearly exam. I got a B.

I'd say it's one of 3:
Duality - Slipknot (I know it's easy)
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (I also know it's easy)
Paranoid - Black Sabbath

Wow. a lot of you learned by playing System of a Down. i know it's a fallacy to think you can get an accurate summation of a person based on their tastes in music, but if you listen to system of a down, that's pretty much all I need to know about you.
you know what? that's all we need to know about you too. next time keep your snotty opinion to yourself.

First song i mastered on guitar was Saddr Weirdr by Bomb the Music Industry!

On bass, i think the first song i really got down was Ruby Soho by Rancid. Any song by rancid is fun to play on bass. Matt Freeman is my hero.

The first song I could play the whole way through on guitar and sing the words to at the same time is probably Everlong.
Dude, me too! Next thing I learned after Pink Floyd! I still play that song, it's beautiful and very satisfying to play.

I got drunk at a party and hopped in on karaoke. They made me sing KoRn's Freak on a Leash. surprisingly I was awesome and my friends were shocked, and so was I when I saw the tape.

Damn, beaten to the punch.

The second song was a sailing ditty: "What Should We Do With The Drunken Sailor?"

God, I love that song.

Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's, it was easy and it sounded pretty. When I finally learned it all the way through I was ecstatic, it was the best feeling, I love playing that song to this day.
