Metroidvania is the term I most hear banded about, which works pretty wellAkytalusia said:the 'metroid' genre. may it live forever.
(is there an actual name for this genre yet?)
Mass Effect's realism got blown to bits the moment they introduced space-telekinesis and an entire lesbian alien race. Not knocking it, mind you, as I love the games, but I don't think "realism" is the point you're trying to make, here. Maybe more like "story points that aren't ridiculous." Although I'm assuming the Reapers' motivation gets explained in the next game.Chase Yojimbo said:I wish for realism in story to be preserved. True that some of our greatest games of all time were some of the wackiest, but that doesn't mean that "You must destroy the Reapers, a Sentient Race of Robots the size of ships that are the pinnical of all Non-Biological Life, and who come to destroy the Galaxy once again simply because they fancy that tingly feeling of being psychotic and taking away that lolipop from life. Also they decided to make a Reaper Version of you by sacrificing a whole lot of you..." WTFF!!! was my reaction to the ludicrous story line. I still play the games though(Mass Effect Series).
I remember that! I would love to see that return!SirBryghtside said:The power-up mechanic in Lego Racers 1.
It was incredible, I can't believe no one else has even come close to copying it :O
Then you may like this [http://rpgmaker.net/] site if you dont know it yet.Nobodyman said:I think the sprite based RPG's (Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 4) needs to be preserved. I want to see more games like that.
That's a really damn good argument. Since I'm in the middle of a Persona obsession, I'd like to see Atlus attempt a character driven WW2 game. They just might be able to make it work.Legion IV said:I hope someone shares this view...
World War 2 Games. I know most people will think am crazy but let me explain. World war 2 games the majority of them do not even know the potential of the genre.
Look at brothers in arms. It was a very serious historically accurate and just as real as it could be. The series was all about tactics and your squads.
The story included how bonds would grow on the battlefield, what its like to be in charge of 13 men all with families awaiting there return. It followed a complex story of guilt and regret and even captured th effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder on the main character, to seeing things that weren't real or seeing ghosts of his past manifested from his guilt over the men he lost and the secrets as to how he lost them.
I hope one person understands what am saying or knows what am talking about i feel alone in this veiw and its pretty depressing seeing how everyone says WW2 games are boring now. There is SO MUCH untapped potential that it seems only Brothers in Arms has captured.
Actually, it's in ModNation Racers, and it is AWESOME.Redlin5 said:I remember that! I would love to see that return!SirBryghtside said:The power-up mechanic in Lego Racers 1.

OT: Freelancer's battle system was very fun. I would love to play another like it.
I've still got that game lying around my room, I should pick it up again some time. And Lego Island 2, damn that was pretty fun too.SirBryghtside said:No sarcasm, I bloody love that game, it's my favourite racing game of all timeCap said:I can't tell if that's sincere or not because I can't remember the game that well, but if you have the sheer audacity to mock the single greatest game to ever grace the PC, save Lego Rock Raiders, I will end you so fast you won't have time to blink.SirBryghtside said:The power-up mechanic in Lego Racers 1.

OT: Static health kits, i.e. healing stations mounted on the wall. The last time I saw that was I believe in Half Life 2, and even then they weren't exactly prevalent.damn Rocket Racer...
(if you look through the thread, you'll see I've written a paragraph on why it's so good)
And you played Rock Raiders too? Awesome!
Check out Warhamer 40k: Space Marine. You get HP from killing enemies, and as any fan of 40k would know, space marines aren't the kind to hide behind walls. And the warhammer space marines were the originals.Smerf said:oh thats simple, no cover and no recharging health. because REAL men (or particuarly awesome chicks) dont need cover or full health for sitting in a corner. the only exeptpion i can think of is portal, regenerating health there is fine.
Try Kinghts of the Old Republic. The moral choices aren't terribly complicated, but they work, and the story will blow your mind more than a nuclear earwig.aei_haruko said:I want 2 things:
1 moral choices to evolve/ be made a lot more present
2 for there to be way more in the way of complex characters who have very real stories
Morality is something that makes you go ' dang, my mind is blown up" it makes you examine so many aspects of humanity, making games much more deep and philisophical. I like that a lot, it makes our medium much more respectable, way too go extra credits
Characters simply display rage and testosterone, not that we need to do away with these guys, but have more characters who want more than blood and hate. How about an idealist? Or a Lover? Or a revolutionary person who wants to change the world? Whos with me?
GOG.com has the original Dungeon Keeper... But you may already know that.Denamic said:Deep and complex RPGs.

NO!
NONONONONONONO!
Dungeons is NOT Dungeon Keeper!
Dungeons is nothing LIKE Dungeon Keeper!
Do not be fooled by its first glance impression.
Its gameplay and concept is entirely different.
And it is by no way any kind of 'remake' of DK.
Saying such a thing is downright offensive.
