Subtitles sometimes I like to turn the sound off, or I just can't understand what characters are saying.

Survival horror games. Titles like RE5 and Alan Wake don't count.
Games like Silent hill 2 and RE2. You really had to watch your ammo usage and sometimes, it was just better to run by.
And they were truly scary. Thas very important.

Harvest Moon games. the 2d or 2.5d versions to use a lame made up term. So many hours spent farming in total stupid bliss. I miss that.

Tony Hawk Games where a 3 million point combo was possible and laws of gravity just don't apply

Spyro the Dragon. Anyone else get 100% in those games and get to play around in THE BEST LEVELS EVER MADE? Seriously, those final levels were pure unhinged fun. You had to WORK for the bonus levels and when you finally got them, they didn't disappoint. PURE SPYRO FUN. Not only do I miss Spyro, but I also miss the truly worthwhile un-lockable. None of this, "My gun is made of gold because I've killed a small countries worth of players with it" crap. I want something that I can goof around in after I've earned it.

3D SCI-FI SPACE FLIGHT GAMES!!! WHY ARE THERE SO FEW!???!?!!?!Freelancer was the last good one. I heard about this X series but it's a 3D sci-fi simulator not a game. It's hugely over complicated and has a pretty steep learning curve. And a low budget probably. I can't believe Microsoft canceled Freelancer 2 and bankrupt the developer those heartless bastards.

The power-up mechanic in Lego Racers 1.

It was incredible, I can't believe no one else has even come close to copying it :O
Mind giving me a run-down of how that worked again? I remember playing the game at one point, but not much else.
Basically, instead of the generic 'get a box and that gets you a thingy' system, there were different kinds of bricks - Green, Blue, Red and Yellow were the 'base' bricks, and then there were the White ones. How it works is you get a base brick, and this gives you a weapon/shield/speed boost depending on the colour brick. You can use this straight away in its weakest form, or you can go around the track collecting white bricks, up to a maximum of 3, to boost the power up before you use it. For example, a red brick's four stages are cannonball, grappling hook, magic lightning ray, and finally homing missiles. This leads to choices about whether you use them straight away, or hold until you get the uber version. It also means half the time you're avoiding the bricks that you don't want, so you don't get, say, the barrel upgrade when you wanted the shield.

It's really original and intuitive, and distances itself completely from the random blasts of power that can get you from last to first place in seconds, like those seen in Mario Kart.

Here's [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEVg0TGfnTg] the best example I can find. It's my favourite racing game of all time :D

Edit: Oh yeah, and you lose a white brick when you get hit by a weapon. So when stockpiling, you need to be really careful.
Hm. That sounds kind of like how the powerups work in ModNation Racers.
Sounds sort of like Diddy Kong Racing to me, as well. Except with balloons. Man I loved that game. All my friends were playing Mario Kart 64, but Diddy Kong just blew it out of the water. Open world! (sort of)

I love me some flight sims. I haven't seen one a decent one in awhile but I'm looking forward to Assault Horizon. I know it's not very flight simulationy but I do enjoy an Ace Combat game. It should keep me entertained for awhile.

I think the sprite based RPG's (Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 4) needs to be preserved. I want to see more games like that.

Jak and Ratchet and Clank are my two favorite games ever, but games like them just don't seem to ever come out anymore. I'm not sure what to call them, part shooter part platformer. Perhaps what I want are 3rd-person games that establish their own aesthetic and feel no particular obligation to realism. Mario 64 could be included in this, another favorite of mine.

Rolling HP in RPGs. Yeah, its small. but it added a lot in my opinion. For those that don't know what it is, Rolling HP is when your health rolls down as you take damage and rolls up as you heal. It is pretty small, but it made things intense when you took fatal damage and you had to smash the key to get your menu up so you could heal.

I want the industry as a whole to be preserved.I don't care if I like it or not because I know someone else does and I am not gonna try and ruin their time because of my preferences. Its the same reason why I'm never go to Britain for no hunting.

You know the remake "Dungeons" has been released on steam?

No!
NO!
NONONONONONONO!

Dungeons is NOT Dungeon Keeper!
Dungeons is nothing LIKE Dungeon Keeper!
Do not be fooled by its first glance impression.
Its gameplay and concept is entirely different.
And it is by no way any kind of 'remake' of DK.
Saying such a thing is downright offensive.

Another vote for space combat games from me. Ever since I saw Star Wars as a kid I've loved everything from Wing Commander through Rogue Squadron, T-Fighter, all of them. I'm honestly at my happiest stat watching the stars, figuring out my new weapon upgrades and preparing for the Alien's to warp in.

And one ray of hope. Don't know how many people played it but Descent: Freespace and Freespace 2 are incredible, superb, space combat games. Huge capital ships, tiny plucky fighters, great space effects. Basically all the good bits from Babylon 5 and Star Wars turned into a game...

In particular I'd recommend Freespace 2 and some of the mods - the Babylon 5 mod is difficult and hard to play, least last time I tried, but hell, zipping around in a Star Fury is great fun. Given the game was by Volition, who knows, maybe there's a chance we'll see them do the same again.

I mean, I can't be the only person who sees a huge opportunity to do a space game right now? It'd clearly have some serious interest.

Another vote for space combat sim. It's always been my favourite game type and I've been missing it badly.

Since so many people seem to miss it, why the hell don't any developers make them any more? It can't be that much of a niche if so many people want to see them return.

Freelancer. Full stop.

You know, Microsoft, if you just released the source code for it already, people would have an even easier time turning it into EVE Online with more exciting combat.

I want to save the part where you use a controller.
This. So much this.

Also, destrucible environments. I remember War of the Monsters fondly, and in InFamous 2 I like that you can destroy certain environmental aspects (tram lines and balconies mainly), but I'd prefer if they didn't respawn (like the review suggested)).

One more thing is Dark Cloud's village-making system. I thought it was great (and supported by the story-line, so double-win). It allows for completion rewards, dungeon collectibles, gives a valid reason for progressive unlocks within a set location (you can't fish until you put the pond back, or buy things until you rebuild the shop), and most importantly, building a village carries a nice sense of accomplishment, as you run around going "I made this place".

Creepy exploration-based gaming. I don't care if I have to play nothing but Daggerfall and Yume Nikki for the rest of my life, I will keep them ALIVE, drat it!
