Hate our anthem, and most ideas of nationalism....
but if we had to have one I'd go for.
I vow to thee my country

I've always reckoned that England should use Land of Hope and Glory when it's just England doing something (akin to how the other Home Nations have an anthem they use). That or (as the Big Yin said) singing the theme to the Archers.
We do for stuff like the Commonwealth Games. Or at least we did last time I could be bothered to be in the same room as it on TV. It would make a far better official anthem than God Save The Queen

The national anthem should really be changed to something good though, I'd say this

While I love our anthem (2 hymns and 4 languages combine to make this piece of awesomesauce)
I think we should change it to this

I also think it's kind of silly that people complain about the word "God" in it. The line "in all our son's command" is probably next on the hit list, too sexist!
Yes, it was. Harper tried to change it for being sexist, and got a huge backlash so he backed down. I think the song should have the religious and sexist references removed.

My country (England) has no official national anthem, instead we use God Save the Queen, which is the enthem for the Uk as a whole. Therefore I'm a little jealous of other countries in the UK who have their own awesome, patriotic anthems (especially the Scots, who have a truly rousing anthem. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybxfZoT6VHQ&feature=related]) I and many others think our anthem should be changed to Jerusalem, which is far better to sing along to, as well as being more unique to us.

So my question to you is do you like your national anthem, and if you had the choice what would you change it to? It can be literally anything, it doenst have to be especially anthem-y, just something that you think would work :D

Fire away people :)
I agree completely. As a staunch anti-Royalist, why should I sing for God to save the Queen? Those parasites are doing fine being looked after by the taxpayers, they don't need divine intervention on top of that! I'm all for Jerusalem or Rule Britannia.

(Although I do sometimes wish I was Scottish when I hear Flower Of Scotland, especially when Alestorm do it...)

From England, ours is crap. I'd change it to Manowar's Hail to England, which is a lot more fitting, but sadly I don't see it happening.

I've obviously been misinformed can't trust anyone these days. But the fact it was written in Eng and translated annoys me...

I just don't like it. Too much emphasis on war and bloodshed.
What would you change it to though? If they did change it we'd probably end up with something lame like that one the rugby team sings

Pretty much the same. I think that God save the Queen is awful.

I dunno, I'd say the Fields of Athenry. The Famine was the biggest event in Irish History, I mean our population still hasn't recovered. It does have the negative IRA connotations, but most ballads do...

And plus nearly EVERYONE in here knows it, so we'd have no problem with pretending the way there is now...

I don't know Amhrán na bhFiann, but I don't try and sing it, I hate the way people start off "Sinne Fianna Fáil...mumble...mumble...mumble..."

I despise the British national anthem and refuse point blank to sing it - I neither believe on god nor the monarchy and think that of all the people in the UK with the right to claim divine help the person with a cushy job for life and a 24 hour armed guard is right at the bottom of the list.

I equally would neither bow (nor the girl thing I can't spell) to the Queen, although an incline of the head in notice to how many years she has served doing boring head of state bullshit might be OK. When Charlie comes in he can shove his crown up his arse (ditto his descendants).

I hate "God Save the Queen" and am embarrassed by it. Rule Britannia is out because we have't exactly ruled the waves in a while. Land of Hope and Glory might be OK.
What about Jerusalem, as suggested in the OP? Theres a lot of people (mainly Rugby fans) who'd like to see that as our anthem instead of the dreary one we have at the moment

I like the South African one. Very relaxing. Not sure if that's the desired effect but hey, it's nice :p

I'm from Sweden, and to be honest I really like the idea of having "Öppna Landskap" as our national anthem.

The Anthem of Israel sound sad, and you won't hear it sung by people on our day of independece wildly in the streets, but it's accually one of the most buetiful anthem meaning wise. I wouldn't change the Tikvah for the world.

America's is alright, I just wish that they would get singers who actually know how to sing instead of that warbling shit.
America's anthem goes on about bombs and rockets, how can it be good?

I'm from New Zealand here, the anthem's pretty meh, but then again it's pretty hard to find one that isn't.
Screw national anthems anyway, all they really do is trick everyone into believing that their own country is better than everyone else's, which is always wrong, because there is no 'best' country.
Although I guess Laos can snatch 'worst'.

how about the sex pistols god save the queen? that version is much better and was taken from the UK number 1 spot in the charts because of the queens silver jubilee, even though it earned it.

All anthems should be written and/or performed by either Mark Lanegan, Nick Cave or Tom Waits. This means all anthems suck, except Australia's unofficial anthem.

That would be pretty fookin' awesome too, it's a cracking song, quintessentially English, and funny to boot.

I have nothing against the royals per se, I just think our anthem should be more about the people than a family of unelected Germans. And I'm right with ya on Flower of Scotland, its got to be the best anthem out there, and Alestorm make it that much better!

Probably the worst national anthem ever. Wish we got USSR's, now that's an anthem I could be proud of.

Edit: Scotland's anthem was not to shabby either.

I think a more fitting one for America would be "Die MF Die" by Dope. It's also catchy.
