I escaped on PURE chance, and pure chance alone. I was sitting at the front of a bus when it hit a tree. I broke my nose, and had my leg perforated by the fibreglass electrics housing at the front, and if I'd had only shifted 2 inches to my right a huge shard of that would have slit my liver right open, and if I'd sat only 3 inches to my right a piece that just went underneath my armpit would have punctured a lung. I know it's all "Well this could have happened" but because it was a left turn, the bus rolled to the right as it turned. If I hadn't totally shit myself and grabbed hold of the bars at the front I would almost certainly be dead. I was 12 at the time, 9 days before my 13th birthday. I couldn't walk for 3 months.

Way back in 6th grade sometime during the winter, I was walking to school and was hit by a truck. (I seriously didn't feel it). I assume I was knocked out because the next thing I know I'm pushing myself off the street and continued going to school. There was a pair of garbage men who were flipping out, but I remember that I kept yelling back to them that I was fine. (I actually was. I wasn't bleeding or nothing.)
That was almost six years ago. Weird huh?

My car hydroplaned on the highway while I was driving back to college. Swerved and my car flipped and rolled. Came out unscathed, even my computer survived it. Don't know how.

I was in Munich in Winter, and I'd just stepped out from under the eaves of a neo-classical monument. I heard an earsplitting, crashing thud immediately behind me, and turned around to realise that if I had stepped out but a second later, I'd have been hit full on the top of the head by a two-foot long icicle with a base diameter of probably a dinner plate. I hate to think what that would've done to me...

When I was...11...I think...give or take a couple years. I was in elementary school,6th grade...so...somewhere around that age I think.

So I was on the playground, kinda in a secluded spot. (note, I was always bullied in school and never had any friends, up till end of middle school/high school when I went to a private school.) Made tons of friends there...but anyway, this kid that always bullied me turned the corner of where I was. I liked collecting insects and stuff. Well, he says if I wanted to see something, and I said sure...well he pulled out this knife and was about to stab me with it, but a teacher who made his lunch walk in the area saw the kid and stopped him. If it wasn't for the teacher, kid woulda probably stabbed me in the heart (where he was aiming the knife). Came pretty close to stabbing me.

Hmm, other than that...haven't really had any close calls.

When I was two I was hit by a car.
By hit I mean completely backed over.
By car I mean SUV.

I have some neat scars and partial blindness in my right eye from the impact.
Overall I came out okay though. :D

When I was little my dad got drunk and held me over the edge of the 3rd-floor balchoney at his apartment by my ankles. He denies it. Our relationship is a little strained.

OT: Ive nearly drowned at centre parcs in Nottingham. Bloody lifeguard was too busy checking out the talent to see i was suctioned to the bottom of a landing pool of some rapids. he tried to stop my mum pulling me out.

Let's just say the water was a lot deeper than I though it was, okay?
I get paid for people like you. :D lifeguards ftw.

edit: Now i see the post a few up about the incompetent one. I'd like to say that my company would never have anyone like that but the guards at the other pool around here (same company) amaze me that they can be so incompetent.

I nearly drowned. Several times. In a pool. The same pool each time.

And if this counts - My dad was trimming a tree, he dropped the chainsaw, it fell onto his wrist a hair away from an artery. And he refused to go to the doctors.

heh, well...lets just say, when a cop we called out to our apartment...lets go back a bit. Same area as my school, this kid always tried to beat me up. His parents had some kind of illegal drug, and we called the cops on them a few times before when the kids mom did something. Well, I was with my best friend (haven't seen him in years) and the kid (his name was michael) followed me and my friend and was taunting us. So I turned around and laid a punch on him right in his big gut. His mom (his parents we believe used aliases) then starts screaming at my mom and was about to get some punches in until my dad came and stopped it. Well cops came and his parents were taking bags full of plants growing out of soda cans (probably weed, not too big on drug names)...when the cop told us and his exact words were "wtf are you doing in this sh!hole of an area? You don't look like you belong here at all"

Now I don't mean to hijack the thread...but just to give an idea of what the school was like. It was probably the worst place we lived that I personally remember, in terms of quality. We lived in worse, but I'm too young to remember. And yeah, there was some gun activity in the same elementary school after I left the place. And yup, an elementary school...where kids brought gun(s) and knives. Luckily I got out of there.

My friend fell off a bridge when he was little. He damaged his spine, and will probably be disabled in a couple of years.

I was once attacked in the shower by zomeone else's mum and stabbed to death; I came back to life through sheer force of will.
I've mostly stymied my desire for human brains.
Other than that, I once fell into a deep pool of water (at a young age, mind you) which was conveniently playing host to three seperate copperhead nests. Again, through sheer force of will, I clawed my way up the six-foot tall rock face and onto dry land, where I almost immediately was savaged by a german shepard (no, really!). Fortunately, my upbringing on a farm allowed me to quickly tame the beast and use it as my traveling companion on the way back home.

I also watched Stan Lee Presents: Lightspeed.

I swear to God, those words are true-- the second set, at least.
