Riding on my Sledge on the kids hill on a skiing vacation. fell straight under the security net and was only stopped by a thick layer of snow. behind me was a forest and a few thousand feet off the mountain.

Thought of another (few) times I've been skirting the line of meeting the Reaper.

I'm sure this has happened to at least one or two other people: wave pool, overweight people in inner-tubes covering the place, BIG WAVE.

This has happened to me two or three times now, and I've finally just stopped trying to go into that pool, because I'm tired of getting stuck under sixty fat Americans in giant inner-tubes, disoriented and trying to figure out which way to go to get air.

Never go to Thunder Bay in Water World (Denver). That's my advice.

My own mother poisoned me.

You see, I have a birth defect that makes it so I almost die if I take Aspirin.
Guess what my mom gave me.

I nearly drowned once. I was staying at a manor house that you could rent out called blairquan with my family and some family friends, and there was a river adjacent to the house. I was hanging out with this girl, and we walked across the bridge to the other side of the river. when we walked down a bit further, we realised that there was a makeshift bridge of large rocks and boulders that would take a lot less time to get back over, so we started across. Unfortunately, the current was a lot faster than i had anticipated, and i slipped on the rock and into the cold, cold water. i managed to grab hold of a rock, but i was slipping gradually. I screamed my head off for help, and my dad came running down out of the house and dragged me out just before i fell to the current. that was so many years ago...

Nearly drowned twice. First when I was about 11, went down to the hotel pool early in the morning wasnt good at swimming, and paniced when in the deep end. Only survived because I shouted.
Secound, earlier this year my little brother went on top of this inflatable slide/obstacle course thing in the pool(which he wasnt supposed to go on as he could barely swim and the slide led to the deep side). I haw him go down the slide and knowing he couldnt swim I swam to where he would come up. But I wasn't strong enough to hold him up in the water as well as myself....luckily lifegards noticed and got us out(one of them was a school freind of mine).

I don't know all the details since it happened when I was only a few days old and can only go on what my parents told me, but I nearly died of suffocation shortly after birth. It was during the Easter holidays, it was late during the night and the hospital was understaffed. For reasons I don't know I couldn't breathe in my hospital crib and none of the nurses had noticed. They had to reanimate me, bnut luckily they had noticed soon enough to prevent brain damage from oxygen deprivation. I got off with shocked, panicked parents and an extended hospital stay for follow-up exams.

During a skiing trip years ago I took a bad fall. I was going fast and due to heavy snowing and being on the shadowside of the mountain visibility was low with little contrast. I must've strayed from the track somewhere because I suddenly noticed the ground falling away under me. I had gone over the edge of a very steep incline with the bottom being a sheet of pure ice about 20 feet lower. Luckily I landed on my feet and rolled, meaning I got off with just 2 compound fractures in my legs, a broken clavicle and wrist, a sprained neck and a concussion. Oh, and one broken ski.

As part of a physiology practical in uni, I was on an exercise bike while wearing a mask linked to a tank of oxygen. I was supposed to be breathing in the oxygen from the tank, and the CO2 I was breathing out was pumped away into a filter. My half-wit of a lab partner set the filter up the wrong way round, and I nearly sufforcated as oxygen was being taken away from me rather than towards me.

Haven't had a near death experience, just a few close calls like most people. The closest was probably getting hit by a truck (the big ones) while on bike. I was going straight, he didn't see me and turned right, hitting my bike and sending me flying out on the other lane, where the other cars thankfully stopped. :) No injuries though, just the bike, and that was my friend's (he was with me at the time), and he got that covered.

Two years ago, my brother was really close though. While playing Test Drive Unlimited (which he only played cause I had told him to try it), he was hit in the face with a 9mm bullet from ~100m away. Some idiot playing around with a gun apparently. The lucky thing was that the bullet had lost speed over that distance, and went through a window and into his right nostril from the side, and stopping an inch or so under his eye, slowed by the bone. Now if he hadn't played that damn game, he would not have had a steeringwheel between him and the table, and therefore sitting a bit closer. In that case the bullet would most likely have hit the side of his head and sent itself and/or bone fragments into his brain. Now he doesn't even have a scar. :)

In China, around 10 years ago, my girlfriend would have fallen to her death if not for she and her mom seeing a huge, odd buddha figure that they just had to see up close. When they got over to it, the light from that side of the road showed that a series of deathtraps consisting of open drains littered over the dark road, and one in particular had been extremely close to ending their lives.

Also, her brother almost died of kidney failure and subsequent bloodpoisoning of being treated nearly too late. He was 18 at the time, he is ~31 now and only got a new kidney last year. It was due to a shitty malaria-vaccine they got, my gf got exema (sp?) and her mother psoriasis.

I got hit by a car and was only bruised. It was a little red thing possibly a Geo. When i was only a few months old I've been told I nearly crawled onto a highway. My dad never has been an attentive person.

When I was born my lungs weren't fully developed and every breathe I took my lungs ripped apart and I had to stay in the hospital for 3 weeks in an incubator with the doctors giving my parents a slim to no chance of survival.

When I was about 5 or 6 I couldn't swim well but I went swimming with my mom and my sister. My sister thought it was a good idea to take me to the deep end of the pool where I almost drowned because my sister was pushing off me to stay above water. My mom had to jump in the pool to save me because i had blacked out.
