At my birth I almost died cause I would not come out the old fashioned way and had to be c-sec and was on life support for about 3 weeks. Hows that for a welcome to the world.

Hiking in the mountains with a friend. Climbing up a mild cliff with a 50 degree slope at the bottom, full of rocks.
It had just rained, and the vegetation underfoot was slippery as hell. All we had to hold on to was a bunch of wet heather.
No close calls or anything, but it was pretty creepy.

On the same day, climbing down a crevasse type thing, which was basically a rock face disintegrating with a space in the middle to shimmy down.
Turns out the outer wall moves when bearing weight.
All 18 tons of it.

And a very halfhearted suicide attempt.

my last near death experience did kill me. I'm current writing this from heaven.com

jokes, btw, no offence meant against religion, I do that in my rants
I don't believe you, heaven would have either no ISPs or a huge line on one computer (with all those proxies and blocked sites and whatnot).

(I kid.)

I almost choked to death.

The worst/most embarrassing near-death so far, I think.

When I was two I was hit by a car.
By hit I mean completely backed over.
By car I mean SUV.

I have some neat scars and partial blindness in my right eye from the impact.
Overall I came out okay though. :D
How blind are we talking? And that must have hurt, like, really bad. But hey, you were two, you have the luck of not remembering much.

I fell off a mountain once. need I say more?
How high was the mountain?

OP: I feel like such a lucky bastard, I haven't had a single near death or remotely dangerous experience. Or maybe I'm just overly safe, cause the only half-serious injury I've ever got (that I can remember) was getting my face slammed into the corner of an opening door.

As they say, you are never more alive then when you are closest to death, now get out there and start biking mountains with no helmet, judging by this thread mountains seem high on the near death list. Myself, Im from the UK, our mountains are pretty tame compared to the rest of the world, except Holland of course.

Yeah I don't remember anything of the actual impact or anything after, other than a yellow lab in a doctor's outfit. My bets are that there was no dog... /:

Like all I have is peripheral vision in my right eye. It's enough vision for me to still have depth perception, and to be able to drive because I essentially see exactly the same as anyone else. The left eye 'adapted' or something... I also have like 20-20. :p

Almost got run down by a cabby in melbourne CBD. Gave him a nasty look and kept on walking ahaha. Stopped like an inch away from my leg too, I lol at danger.
Oh on a side note, I feel lucky that I'm not Jewish, not that I have anything against Jews, but I'm a Haemophiliac, which practically means my blood doesn't clot, so my brisk (think thats how ya spell it, circumcision thingy anyways.) would have been the most dramatic ever hahahaha, bleed out from penis lol. Most awkward conversation ever for my parents:
"Oh I'm so sorry or your loss, what happened to him?"
"well, uh, you see..."
"Oh. My. God."

Yea my humour has a slightly black bent to it. Too much Monty Python, obviously.

This was a few years ago, I was messing about in a quarry with a few friends and ended up overbalancing and sliding down a steep slope.

Somehow managed to skid down on my feet, almost standing up, until I got to the bottom. There was a 6 foot ledge that I fell off, grazing most of the skin off my forearms and elbows.

Yep, not trying that again.

When I was...11...I think...give or take a couple years. I was in elementary school,6th grade...so...somewhere around that age I think.

So I was on the playground, kinda in a secluded spot. (note, I was always bullied in school and never had any friends, up till end of middle school/high school when I went to a private school.) Made tons of friends there...but anyway, this kid that always bullied me turned the corner of where I was. I liked collecting insects and stuff. Well, he says if I wanted to see something, and I said sure...well he pulled out this knife and was about to stab me with it, but a teacher who made his lunch walk in the area saw the kid and stopped him. If it wasn't for the teacher, kid woulda probably stabbed me in the heart (where he was aiming the knife). Came pretty close to stabbing me.

Hmm, other than that...haven't really had any close calls.
the fuck kind of school do you go to? A god dam knife...IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. What a fucked up kid.
heh, well...lets just say, when a cop we called out to our apartment...lets go back a bit. Same area as my school, this kid always tried to beat me up. His parents had some kind of illegal drug, and we called the cops on them a few times before when the kids mom did something. Well, I was with my best friend (haven't seen him in years) and the kid (his name was michael) followed me and my friend and was taunting us. So I turned around and laid a punch on him right in his big gut. His mom (his parents we believe used aliases) then starts screaming at my mom and was about to get some punches in until my dad came and stopped it. Well cops came and his parents were taking bags full of plants growing out of soda cans (probably weed, not too big on drug names)...when the cop told us and his exact words were "wtf are you doing in this sh!hole of an area? You don't look like you belong here at all"

Now I don't mean to hijack the thread...but just to give an idea of what the school was like. It was probably the worst place we lived that I personally remember, in terms of quality. We lived in worse, but I'm too young to remember. And yeah, there was some gun activity in the same elementary school after I left the place. And yup, an elementary school...where kids brought gun(s) and knives. Luckily I got out of there.

that sounds like the worst, I was lucky my school didnt have any bully...if it did he didnt bother me. It was quite a small school, maybe 200-300 people tops.

Huge wave pool at wild waves... I know it sounds lame but i was younger, couldn't swim so well, and the left guard would have let me drown. i went under and couldn't breath, the waves pushed me back and flailing i managed to grab the life guard ladder. and pull my self up. and guess what? the life guard looks over and yells at me for climbing the ladder.

Here's a scary one from a couple weeks ago...

I stopped off on the way to work and got a breakfast burrito from a fast food place. As I'm driving to work I start eating it. Like most people, I eat in the car all the time. No big deal, right?

So I don't remember what happened...I either hit a bump or somehow involuntarily inhaled, but whatever I did I wound up sucking part of the burrito down the wrong pipe. I tried to dislodge it by coughing it out, but it was stuck in there good. After about 5 seconds I realized it wasn't coming out and I was getting no air whatsoever.

I tried to remain as calm as possible but the fact of the matter was I was choking to death while driving, and I honestly thought I was going to die. I was driving down a street where there was nothing but curb on either side, no way to get help. In my rearview mirror I saw some cars behind me about a quarter of a mile back, so I slowed down and stopped my car so I was blocking both lanes. I needed someone to stop and if not help me directly, then call for help.

So as I stop the car and begin to get out, I realize the first guy coming was paying no attention whatsoever (he was in the left lane of a 2 lane road) and hadn't slowed down at all. Heh, forget choking to death...this guy was going to t-bone me. So I backed the car up into the right lane as he saw me and drove over the medium. Now at this point I'm probably close to a minute with no oxygen and I can't see very well because my eyes are all blurry. So I get out of the car, and I don't know how this happened...maybe somehow my diaphram contracted and expanded...but getting out of the car forced enough air out that the piece of burrito dislodged and came out in what can only be described as a belch of Homer Simpson proportions.

So there I stood, as traffic behind me slowed to a stop and people looked at me like I was out of my mind. As my vision cleared I began to wave people around me and then got back in my car and went to work.

And oh yeah, I threw the rest of that damn burrito out.

I've had pneumonia three times.

I have an awesome immune system now though, so it was worth it.
