I love metal (Thrash metal is my favorite), but I dont like it when all they do is scream in a microphone and play the same 3 power chords over and over. IM LOOKING AT YOU JOB FOR A COWBOY!

i used to think the same as you, but i just needed heavier and heavier, and you cant bash modern metal until you've been to a good concert, seeing Chimaira live really stuck it to me how awesome hardcore is and actually its only the mainstream modern metal that is three chords over and over, the good shit doesnt get on the radio or advertsVENN724 said:George144 said:I dislike Metal intensely it all sounds like mindless thrashing and bad lyrics, I can just about stand hard Rock like Motorhead but thats the utter limit. okaaaaay
well anyway, yeah your right, the "metal" nowadays isnt at all what metal actually was back then
bands like Motorhead, Megadeth, Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc.
they were actual metal bands, *sigh*, back then the music was real, but now, its all just a few chords played through the song, some simple guitar riffs with no change up in the rythm and so much screaming that the only way to actually understand any of the shite that they say is to be so hearing impared that the vibrations going through your body make you percieve something thats similar to actual lyrics
and because of that, its hard to either classify the "metal" now as actual metal or vice versa
but i digress, yes there are still some bands that still do metal correctly but still the general populace of "metal" lovers cant differ between actual metal and whatever the bollocks it is that they now call metal
try a couple different songs from them, in particular, "painting the white to grey" (2001 pass out of existance), "dead inside"(2001 pass out of existance), "power trip"(the impossibility of reason 2003), "resurrection" (Resurrection 2007), and "on broken glass" (the infection 2009)VENN724 said:Chimaira eh? i'll have to check them out

I probably should have stated that it just sounds like noise to me, I'm sure other people find it brilliant in much the same way that people may find my music crap, its all about differing opinions, if we all liked the same things, music would be very dull. I dislike metal as a genre but that's just me personally based on my perceptions of what I've heard.HotPotatoXD said:beckett360 said:The genre of metal irritates me because its a bunch of untalented musicisians struming power chords really fast and banging on drums really loudly.

I constantly have this discussion with one of my friends and hate all the ignorance he has toward the genre, i have no particular hate towards any genre but i do have genre's that annoy the hell out of me (bad pop, bad rap, hip pop) but everyone has the right to like and dislike the genre
However people don't have the right to says that all or most metal band are talentless or have no idea what there doing because i would like to see you get as good as they are, id also like to see you do a simple beat on drums much less be able to keep time fast enough to play drums like that
Also music, no matter what genre its is, music is the expression your feelings(in other words rhythmic poetry) and a lot of the of it is your feelings in the song. Disturbed, is a great example(although there not a screaming band) alot of there music comes from there own expression if you listen closely to there music you can hear the message.
If your too ignorant to say that all music isn't beautiful then you really don't know anything about art.

Stole my post =PRev Erebus said:I listen to all types of music, i just prefer the metal side. Check my last.FM library i will listen to anything once before i make judgment. No matter what the genre is.
I've always seen them as a heavy punk sound, but I can see how people think they are metal. They're certainly straddling the line, that's for sure. But I do agree with you, it *is* all in perception.CuddlyCombine said:I'd argue that In Flames is melodic, if only for the inclusion of clean vocals and dual guitar parts in some songs. It's all in perception, though; for example, I may see Protest the Hero as progressive metal (leading into metalcore), while somebody else may see them as pure mathcore or hardcore punk (which they were when they released A Calculated Use of Sound).AvsJoe said:I'm a huge fan of Bodom and In Flames, but I'm reluctant to call either one Melodic (except the two segments from Bodom's Tie My Rope, that's melodic alright). It's weird how different people perceive the same songs differently.
You do that. I saw them in concert and they are fantastic. One of the best concerts you will see if you are a metalhead.VENN724 said:Chimaira eh? i'll have to check them out

Heh, that was quite funny... I dont agree with you but that was funny.Srkkl said:First off I realized that after I posted this that I was making a very broad view of "Metal". The stuff I was thinking of when I posted this was crap like Atilla, AtackAtack, and August Burns Red. I actually do listen to bands like Megadeth, I don't particularly like Mettalica though. If there was one reply that sums up this thread, it's this one. Great post.McNinja said:I rather like metal. I try to find music with good lyrics, and I usually succeed. Even metal songs have good lyrics, you just gotta know where to look.
Upon further analysis of this thread, it appears that most people who don't like metal either prefer the 80's metal (can't blame you it's pretty good stuff) or are generally ignorant(which I can blame you for). That being said, when we say "metal" we don't always mean "death-metal" which in itself has some really good songs (musically, lyrically you can't get to varied when singing about death). There's melodic metal(Mercenary, In Flames, list is here already I think). folk metal (Eluvite, Equilibrium, etc) , power-metal (aka Nightwish, and the like) and the list goes on to the various genres and sub-genres of metal.
Most people think of metal as crap because they hear one song that happens to consist mainly of power chords, screaming, and blast beats. But that's not the extent that metal goes to, so if you want to make a generalization, just please try to listen to more than one song.
Have you heard of a band called Oomph? I wouldn't call them similar to Rammstein, but they compliment each other nicely. I suggest you check them out.silasbufu said:only rammstein
