Fruit Punched is pretty good though...at least I feel it is.Matt East said:I was waiting for someone to mention that abbomination in a can.Mariena said:Tastes like ass.
Oh, wait. Them.
Well, to each their own. I preferred GTA4 to the earlier GTAs, the only thing it lacked is the breadth of customisation and stuff to do that existed in San Andreas. I was fine with the more realistic feel.Casual Shinji said:I feel they've lost their fun streak.
It started with GTA4 and continued throughout Red Dead Redemption.
Bully was the last Rockstar game I actively enjoyed because it still had that fun and goofy nature.
Can I addMiracleOfSound said:I love their games but I have a few little niggles:
1. They need to move on from using tired old stereotypes like Irish and Little Jacob
2. The controls in their games don't feel as intuitive to me as other modern games. The turning circles are too big and movement generally feels awkward and clumsy.
3. Difficulty spikes, escort missions and shitty on-rails missions.
I think this sums up my stance as well. LA Noire looks decent, though, and I'd be willing to give it a try.Sixcess said:Rockstar depresses me. I remember playing GTA: San Andreas for the first time and being blown away by the size and scope of the world, the smoothness of the gameplay and how well the story was told... and wishing they'd use all that for something other than sensationalist, intentionally 'controversial' gangster posturing.
I think they make good games. I just wish they'd step outside their comfort zone a bit more and stop with the macho gangster shit.
Great, I was planning on being impartial, that hasn't worked.dimensional said:I dont particularly like Rockstar I mean I want to but I just dont like many of their games GTA3,Vice city, GTA4 (didnt play san andreas) just felt the same, create a massive world then think ah crap lets put some junk in there escort mission here race here package here it just dosent feel organic to me never played Bully but Manhunt was very poor I took it back after the 6th level.Im looking forward to trying red dead properly sometime in the future and the table tennis game was surprisingly solid but generally no I dont like them and I feel they are hugely overated its like they can do no wrong even if the game is average it gets great scores sorta like original star wars and godfather films yeah they are ok even good in places but dont deserve to be placed on such a high plinth.
Im not saying they dont stand out and arent better than the clones GTA in particular have spawned what I am saying is I dont like them I find them unenjoyable and hard work to play and the characterisation and stories just dont do it for me and of course developers jumping on the gta band wagon meaning there is less new games I want to play because more are mirroring the GTA formulae which fails in my eyes to make a good game (yet).Matt East said:Great, I was planning on being impartial, that hasn't worked.dimensional said:I dont particularly like Rockstar I mean I want to but I just dont like many of their games GTA3,Vice city, GTA4 (didnt play san andreas) just felt the same, create a massive world then think ah crap lets put some junk in there escort mission here race here package here it just dosent feel organic to me never played Bully but Manhunt was very poor I took it back after the 6th level.Im looking forward to trying red dead properly sometime in the future and the table tennis game was surprisingly solid but generally no I dont like them and I feel they are hugely overated its like they can do no wrong even if the game is average it gets great scores sorta like original star wars and godfather films yeah they are ok even good in places but dont deserve to be placed on such a high plinth.
Rockstar's games may not be the be all and end all of the medium, that is an unfair comparison, like comparing hockey to stamp collecting, but they stand out in the genre, I enjoy Saints Row, I even shelled out nearly $50 for the DLC for the second game (I'm working with a minuscule budget, 50 bucks is a big step), but Grand Theft and Red Dead made the world come alive, they had an atmosphere that games like SR and True Crime couldn't replicate, remember when they used to be called "GTA clones"?, that happened for a reason, if I'm driving around Stilwater, I feel like an observer, like I can put down my controller and walk away, but when I'm galloping around New Austin I part of a living world, that guy who I hog-tied before I slit his throat, I actually feel bad about it.
They write their games well so you (or at least me, I could just be weird) live in that world as much as the guy behind the counter at Clucking Bell, John Marston and Niko Bellic were believable characters, they didn't want to rule the world, they just wanted to have a normal life.
So I've gone fan-boy for a few minutes, lets get back to the discussion, unless this thread has died......
