Your opinion of the escapist community

There is a very broad spectrum of users. Many of the time I see threads with a lot of insight. Other times I see copycat threads, dismissive posters, or just plain rampant stupidity that even gameFAQs would be ashamed of. Overall though, this is a great place to post. The content on the website is good, and therefore the posters it draws tend to be good.
I rarely post here anymore as most threads nowadays seem to have a recurring theme which I dare say is immature and is steadily declining. My only reason now I find is to check up on the latest issue Zero Punctuation on my days off work.
How many threads have been posted repeatedly about crap like 'which anime character do you fancy' and 'whats your favourite Pokemon' ect ect. At least the post count whores can bump up their number I guess as it will make them feel more important instead of doing something more constructive with their lives.
It's all too common and says a lot about the Escapist community in general. The genuinely interesting threads are few and far between nowadays but that is most probably because the adults have moved on leaving the few endearing mature posters in the mass of pre pubescant teen angst.

By far the best video-game-oriented community on the Internet. It seems like one of the only places where intelligent discussion gets done.
Seriously, look at sites like IGN. The entire comments section on any given article involving Halo amount to "lul ps3 is bettur". Well, that or random online store spam. Even if Escapists do sometimes devolve into console warfare, they at least make coherent arguments and properly defend their points.

Its' a little tightly run, I'll admit it. but at the same time that governance results in a clear absence of trolls and filth, so i can hardly complain. Overall, I love it here. I wish people quoted and interacted with each other a bit more, but whatever.
I think of this community as generally polite, kind, funny, literate as well as being quite elitest at times with a pinch of mob mentality.

The Escapist is after all primarily a gaming site and as a result much of the younger blood is more geared towards game discussion than off-topic, long-haul discussions. I'm not a fan.
My biggest problem with this community is many community members think these forums are so very special and different from the rest of the Internet, and that by extension THEY are special and different (and better) than the rest of the forum posters out there. This attitude extends beyond just the posters, too.
I like some of the content and Zero Punctuation, but many of the fine people here should seriously get over themselves. To quote Fight Club:
"You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake."
Many of the posters here whine and gripe about how much more other forums suck (and boast about how great TEM is), but you know what? I get a lot less rudeness, elitism and general crap (from both moderators and forum users) at Gamefaqs than I do here. Sure, YouTube is worse, but YouTube is worse than everyone.

Might be hindsight bias, but when I first started lurking (around the time TE acquired Yahtzee), the community seemed to consist exclusively of intelligent, mature individuals who knew when to speak and when to not.
At this point, I'm of the opinion that the current regulars are largely faux-intelligent, faux-mature individuals notable for being completely unable to gauge when to speak and when to not. This, combined with the pointlessly draconian and oft-senseless moderation but relatively lenient speaking rules, has resulted in a userbase who lack both the freedom to shitpost and the facilities to make any particularly interesting contributions, and thus stuck in a grey area between the two in which they're not adding anything but can't be bitched out for it.

I think it's mostly formed with polite, interesting people who love sharing their oppinions and ideas, and usually great to talk to. Plus, it's one of the few fourms that I can stand, as almost all others consists of racists/perverts/douchebags/trolls.
