Yeah it kept me on edge especially when you find that creepy shrine or watever you want to call it
I put that goddamn game on the shelf for about a month.

In Penumbra: Overture, those first living things you come into contact with (don't want to spoil, go get it!) are hella freaky. The breathing sounds weirded me out.

Dead Space wins scariest game in my book. I can't remember 1 time during that game where i ever felt like a badass. Except maybe at the end when you get the military armor or as I call it the PIMP suit.

Silent Hill 1 on PS1 (Sequels are probably scarier but it's the only one I've played).

That game is the most atmospheric thing I've ever played.

I'd definitely agree with the regenerators of Resi 4. Maybe not the scariest thing, but definitely one that's stuck in my mind. The spiked versions were even worse.

Other than that I'm not really sure.

The only time a video game made me poo a little was in Metroid Prime 3. Open a door and a husk of a pirate screeches at you and dissolves. ... that came outta nowhere!

Cheap scares? I'm going with the dude talking in his office in Dino Crisis when OMGWTFBBQ a T-REX's head eats the wall and dude. It honestly scared the crap out of me. I jumped a little.

Otherwise, I'd have to go with Dead Space when you finally reach the Flight Deck/Bridge area and a massive asteroid slams through the hull right in front of you. I never felt so uneasy or vulnerable than that one scene. It doesn't help that the bridge has these ginormous windows with which to see your impending doom with.

The Dunwich building in Fallout 3. Crazy books, bunch of zombie ghouls, wierd obilisk thing and one mans descent into madness all told through the magic of holotapes. Bethesda studios sure love H.P Lovecraft.

It was dark when I started it, turned on good ole Galaxy News Radio and I still couldn't calm down. It was the Darkheart of Blackhall that made me man up and face the dreaded ghoul infested place of nightmares.

Resident Evil 1, that one invincible first generation hancuffed zombie that you down and then it gets back up...

Of course it beats your skull in at one point, then promptly ignores your body until you get back up.

I think her name was Jessica or something...

It was an awesome building to check out, if anything else. Much more interesting than the various corporate HQ's, factories, or, best of all, subway systems that you had to go through.

I don't know if I've ever really been scared of something in a video game or movie, but sometimes while playing Fallout 3 I would turn around near Olney... and suddenly DEATHCLAW RIGHT IN YOUR FACE! That made me jump more than once.

Holy shit, that freaked me out and I haven't even played that game before.

OT, Dead Space actually freaked me the fuck out a few times. The claustrophobic feeling you get while playing, the increasing nyctophobia it induces and the constant feeling of monophobia is only seconded by Silent Hill 2.

Bioshock. Fort Frolic. Plaster-covered spider splicers.

Those bastards scared the living crap out of me. Their introduction damn near made me jump out of my chair. And there was just something repulsive about them that always had me desperately running away and/or firing wildly every time I saw one.

The Shadow Temple and the Bottom of the Well in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Why? Wallmasters. The creepy music. The bizarre architecture and puzzles. AND IT WAS FRICKING SCARY AS HELL.
