Haze, deserted swamp, when this face flashes on the screen and screams "Just an animal!" at you......did not expect that.

Call of Cthulu scared me to death a times. These guys can prove it:
ha yes 4 player podcast. Also i can say my worst was bioshock when your led into a room with bandages on the ground until you reach a tonic, when you pick it up and the room gets really foggy for a sec or two, and then you turn around and theres a splicer, right in front of your face. Shat my pants but not really. I just hate those jumpy bits, in games and movies alike. Sufficed to say, that being my biggest scare in a videogame i havent played many scary games.

REmake on gamecube. I made my first foray into the hallway on the right side of the mansion prepared from my experience with the PS1 version of RE. Nothing happened, so I decided the devs must have taken it out because everyone already knew it would be there. After about my twentieth uneventful time up and down that hallway, the dogs came bursting through the windows, nearly giving me a heart attack.

First real scare: Resident Evil 2 back on the PSone. There were plenty of parts, but pretty much every time you fought Nemesis made me piss myself as a young man. Busting through a wall and having to kill him TWICE IN A ROW, appearing in an elevator shaft and smashing cameras, etc. - it was all damn intimidating.

Most recent scare: Dead Space. Aside from the tentacle (the first time it grabbed me caught me COMPLETELY off guard), there was one part where I killed an enemy, and thought to myself "...wait a sec, they always appear in pairs... don't they?" As I turned around, the next thing I saw was one lunging at me and slashing me right across the chest. It happened so fast, it scared the crap outta me. And I don't scare easy, if at all.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet but...Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. What other game is there that was so terrifying it made you not only lose your sanity in the game, but feel like you were losing it in real life whenever you tried to save only to have the game tell you your save was being erased? This game screws with you on a whole other level.

I'd definitely agree with the regenerators of Resi 4. Maybe not the scariest thing, but definitely one that's stuck in my mind. The spiked versions were even worse.
Ah yes, the Iron Maidens...... frightening.

RE2 was pretty bad for me, as was AvP2 on PC, but I was young.

i thought dead space was quite scary, and the first time seeing a splicer in bioshock 1 freaked me out a bit, but i don't play many scary games.

Dead Space!
That room with the wire railings & walkways and suspended tube thing swinging back & forth... the shadows, chains rattling, pipes & water falling... get the key and run out and some damn thing jumps up right in front of you at the exit just as you think your home free...
then trying to pick up my controller... *ugh*

Im tied between the first encounter of the Splicer in Bioshock (the first time right after leaving the bathesphere I was terrified) and the V-rex in the King Kong game which was so huge and so powerful that it was the most anxious I've felt in a long time playing a video game, scrambling away in terror from a huge beast.

Without a doubt, in the sewers of F.E.A.R., attempting to go down a ladder only to turn slowly to descend and find little miss scary demon girl staring you in the face. Then, after wishing I could physically jump OFF of the ladder, having multiple skeleton ghosts attack you.

I proceeded to empty a whole clip on the ghosts, then had to actually pause the game so I could stop shaking. Never been even NEAR that scared in any game since.

I'm walking through a broken dark subway station in fallout 3, when suddenly I hear the sound of something running toward me, then a gurgling scream. I turn around, and a feral ghoul is right in my face. This happens pretty frequently, but it freaks me out more than anything any other game can throw at me. Mainly because no other game has ever freaked me out.

The bottom of the well in Ocarina of Time.

That was creepy... Although, I was only like 9 when I played through and got scared, but thats the one and only time I have been scared by a game.
