This is not a place for a flame or console war. I'm just curious about the merits of each system, and why people like what they like. If you do criticize another console, PLEASE provide constructive criticism. The reason why the console wars were so notorious was that nobody actually used/uses logic to prove a point.

Why am I creating this thread? Well, I have a Ps3. I like it very much, and have many reasons for why I prefer it to the Xbox360, specifically: Lots of Excellent exclusives (xbox has a few good ones, but I've found that the ps3 has more), a less obnoxious (though not perfect) online community, a more satisfying trophy system (leveling over gamerscore), a longer lifespan, and bluray, which is useful for both movies and data storage on discs. Also, online is free.

...and yet almost every gamer I know owns an Xbox. Why is it that Xbox is so much more popular than other consoles? I just don't get it. It seems that the Xbox has some appeal that draws people to it, and I'm missing it...what is it exactly that people like about it?

I'm white enough to own all the consoles.

Plenty of exclusives on the PS3/360 to warrant owning both.

Have a DS for travel and a laptop that's decent enough to play Oblivion.

[sub]The less said about the Wii, the better...
Although it's still totally worth it for Monster Hunter Tri and the Metroid Prime trilogy.[/sub]

I love my PC. I built it myself, it runs anything I throw at it and I can use it for forum browsing and such as well (occasionally I'll forum-browse while playing a game like Plants vs. Zombies, that's always nice.)

I've also saved a ridiculous amount of money by buying games mostly from Steam sales.

I've also acquired, over the years, an XBox 360 (which works fine), a PS3 (for which I have no games yet) and a DS (mostly for Pokémon, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, and Disgaea).

Well, all the people I know from real life have one; which wasn't a reason when I got it (as me and my brother getting one caused a lot of others to) but is a reason many people chose a certain console over the other.

It's just as powerful as the PS3 graphically, although people fooled by publicity will tell you otherwise. The 360's friend list and party chat was a good addition, but wasn't existent when I first got it either.

Basically, I got a 360 as it was cheaper and had better titles upon release compared to the PS3, which took a while to build up a good catalogue of games. I wasn't going to pay more for a console with less titles I was interested in.

Finally I had both an Xbox and a PS2 (I was spoilt). The PS2 started disentegrating almost immediately and is now unplayable, whilst the original Xbox still runs perfectly to this day. That soured my trust in Sony's console's reliability. It was out of warranty too when the real problems set in. :(

Xbox 360. Because of the Halo series. And I used to own an Xbox. Seemed logical.

I prefer the 360, simply because I've grown accustomed to the controls. The PS3 controller seems alien to me now, even after the 3+ years I was playing the PS2 for. I have all 3 major consoles as well as a DS, and I have definitely spent the most time on the Xbox. Also, I think Xbox does online gaming better than all the other consoles.

I love my laptop because I get to play all the latest games but not hunched up in front of a desk. No way. Almost every one of the 98 hours I have so far put into Fallout: New Vegas have been while playing in bed.

Fuck yeah.

Probably my Xbox. It's got the best exclusives (i.e Alan Wake) even if the consoles are prone to dying. A lot.

I've heard people make similar claims. How exactly is the online better, though?

I've found them to be nearly identical, except one has more usage of the word "******".

PC, so I can browse the web while writing a school paper while writing an LP while playing a game while chatting on Skype.

Trust me, it takes skillz to do that.

PC. The flexibility of the system allows me to build it to my needs, and it could probably out preform a console (or at least match it). Also there are loads of cheap games for it. Plus I can watch HD movies and browse the web at the same time.

Maybe it's down to my own failures, but I found the PS3's online very dissatisfying because I couldn't get the microphone I bought for it to work. I don't know, I'm just familiar with it, it feels comfortable. I was probably wrong to say Xbox does it better than the others, but that's just what I thought, I may well be wrong to someone else's point of view.

One word: Blanket.

Another word: Get some balls of steel.
One word: LapDesk. Its what I use.

OT: PS2. Has the BEST selection of games. Plus I already have about 50+ games for it. So yeah...
