1. Little Big Planet 2 - Bigger and better than the first. There is so much you can make, it can be as complicated as you want it to be. And then there are the pre-made levels which are awesomely fun and have unique themes that thrash the first ones themes, come on castle gardens vs. steam punk? ^^ Also the inclusion of steam punk itself just rawks. The levels also have new innovations and are significantly more difficult than the original.
2. Silent Hill 2 - A fantastic game which will forever be the pinnacle of horror on any media platform. I simply love the ways it uses phsycological scares and some generally messed up scenes to scare you senseless. The puzzles and fighting are actually fun to me ^^ And the story is perhaps one of the best I have ever seen in a game.
3. Mass Effect 2 - To me this is a brilliant, whilst it's more of a third person shooter it has some brilliant features that make your shepherd your own. Also I actually love the way they toned down the complexities of the first as sometimes, as I am a space RPG n00b, I got lost in my inventory and got so confused by everything, whereas now its so simple to do everything. Also the vastness of things to do eclipses any other game I have played....bar LBP2
4. Borderlands - Ok I admit it I am a completely addicted to loot.... and I have somehow managed to avoid diablo...
5. Minecraft - I am simply in love with the resource management and mining! Every time I see some ore in a rock I get totally excited about the possibilities I can make with it, that is until I fall in some lava and loose it all....anyway, any game that the legend, Deadmau5 plays is good enough for me!

some good choices here... mine, in no particular order...

Civilization III (PC) - was completely addicted, back in the day
Morrowind (PC) - favorite RPG of all time
Halo (X-Box) - played it like no other first-person shooter
Thief (PC) - still in love with this game
Railroad Tycoon 3 (PC) - completely addicted back in the day, still play with it now and then

Hmm I often challenge myself to pick 5 games I simply could not live without just in case this sort of thread ever pops up...

I'll base the list on games I have played/will play multiple times as that seems to me a good indication of their awesome-ness. In no particular order...

Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)
Half Life 2 and all episodes (Xbox 360)
Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
Silent Hill 2 (PS2)
Heavy Rain (PS3)

Yes, I'm happy with that list... represents a variety of genres and also covers all consoles (the ones that matter anyway!) Notice they are all very story driven games, with the possible exception of Halo - however that story blew me away when I first played it! It's all about the narrative for me.

I thoroughly endorse these choices, and the reasons behind them, my good sir!

I love the wild west, so naturally...

1. Red Dead Redemption (if only Bioware would make a Mass Effect type Western :( )
2. Mass Effect 2 (never knew how brilliant till PS3)
3. Final Fantasy VIII (under appreciated)
4. Mike Tyson's Punch Out (mark one for nostalgia, and great classic gameplay)
5. Persona 4 (love games with real character...can't wait for Catherine)

1: Donkey Kong 64 (No single player gaming experience before or since can compare to that one in my book. I am beyond pissed off with Nintendo for not making a sequel to this one.)
2: Super Smash Bros [N64, Melee and Brawl are all about even to me] (Most fun I've ever had multiplayer gaming with human friends bar none. If Brawl's online mode was even remotely functional this could have made #1.)
3: MGS4 (Multiplayer is twice as good as conventional shooters, Campaign is fifty times as good as conventional shooters)
4: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (Hesitant to include as I haven't finished yet, but the story is great and I've put in at least 20 hours on the multiplayer and still think it's awesomely innovative, so I am confident it will be nestled snugly in my top 5 by the time I'm done)
5: Red Dead Redemption (Best sandbox in my book. Highly functional gameplay. Compelling story and characters)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:Shadow of Chernobyl
Diablo Battle Chest (Diablo + Diablo II + Lord of Destruction)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Half-Life (and mods)
Dead Space

This is as of recent. My actual list would be about 50. I'm the most indecisive person you'll meet.

I get the feeling most of my choices will be different that others' but these games are all great in their own ways.

1.Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (Exodus is good but I like the Original Storyline more)
2.Monkey Island 2 (Hard to choose between all the MIs)
3.Morrowind (I like Oblivion but I remember Morrowind as being just better)
4.Delta Force Black Hawk Down (Love the HUGE sniping maps, takes actual skill with bullet drop)
5. Medieval (PS1) (love this storyline)

Also worth a mention Resistance Fall of Man, Age of Empires, Baldurs Gate Soul Reaver and Call of Duty 4 (Hell it's probably the best, fast paced shooter)

Gonna stop adding things now
