My brother never saw any James Bond movie.
Thanks to Netflix, that was remedied pretty quickly.

Oh, and I haven't seen Scott Pilgrim. You should see my friend's faces when I say that. Priceless.

There are so many "must see" movies that I haven't seen, yet I've seen an unbelievable amount of movies that no one cares about. For instance, I'm a huge Woody Allen fan and seen a lot of his movies but I haven't seen any of the Lord of the Rings films.

Hey now, I haven't seen it either. Then again, I hail from the frigid north, where nobody else has either, and the thing really doesn't have much cultural meaning.

I know what it's about and have worked out a close enough understanding of the thing, but I have never actually seen it. I don't think I even saw the physical movie in any format at any point.

I have a friend who doesn't know a lot of things that are commonplace. We asked him about 50 different questions and he only heard of The Beatles, Michael Jackson, ACDC, and a few others. Didn't even know who Kobe Bryant is. I envy not knowing who he is.
So, who's Kobe Bryant?

And more on topic, I've had that a lot. Sometimes a bit of a downer when you realize there's a glaring hole the size of a train in your family's and friends' movie culture. I know a few who never saw Jurassic Park, for example. And although it's not as severe, I still consider it a failing that my Street Fighter -obsessed friend hasn't actually seen the Van Damme movie.

A couple of blood cells pop in my eye when someone tells me they've never watched Lord of the Rings.

YOU BETTER HAVE SEEN THE FIRST THREE.

/psychotic rage
First three? When did they make more than three? It starts with A New Hope and ends with Return of the Jedi, right? I'm sure I can't bring to mind any more than that.

OT: I've never seen all the Godfather movies. I was bored as hell by the first one, so I never bothered with the rest.

I do think everyone should see The Lost Boys at least once, though. Especially anyone, like me, who grew up in the eighties.

Eh, I've seen The Wizard of Oz performed on stage. I've never seen the Judy Garland film, though. Is that what you meant?

Which is another point - I think there are a few things everyone should see performed live at least once, or at least a few playwrights whose work you should have at least sampled live. Shakespeare, of course, everyone should have seen at least one or two performances of the Bard's work. And at least one Gilbert and Sullivan performance.

Watched? So long as they've read it, I don't think it matters if they've watched it.

Several. I have a friend who, despite being both active and outgoing, had some sort of twisted childhood that prevented her from seeing most movies you expect kids to have seen. She isn't missing many of the TRUE essentials, but the list of normal movies she's never seen would be far too long to include. It's absolutely pointless to try to get her excited about movies by mentioning actor names too.

Last weekend I met someone who had never seen the Princess Bride. He defended his ignorance by mentioning that his roommate had never seen Star Wars.

*Friend of mine walks into the lounge freshman year*

Friend: "What are you guys watching? What is this?"

Us: "... you're kidding right?"

F: "No, what is this?"

U: "Princess Bride dude! You've never seen Princess Bride, are you serious?!"

F: "Never... Is that Andre the Giant?"

U: "...dude"

F: "This looks silly and stupid"

U: "THAT'S THE POINT"

Me.

No Star Wars, Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Old Boy, Pulp Fiction, Clockwork Orange, Godfather 2 and 3, any Matrix, Kill Bill, Avatar, Borat, The Usual Suspects, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Citizen Kane...

The list just goes on. While I haven't watched any of these films I have extensive knowledge about things related to them. (Greedo shot first, Blue Pill - Red Pill, It was his sled, I'm your father, that kind of stuff and more)
Why not watch them? Seriously. They're all ridiculously good.

I still have yet to see Fight Club. I actually was all set to watch it at one point- I was at a friend's house after a dance. We were getting the DVD ready and had started to watch the movie... then it turned out I had to leave early >_> So I only ended up seeing the first 20 minutes or so. For anyone who's seen the whole movie, you feel my pain- without context the first 20 minutes of that movie are quite... interesting XDD For some reason I've just never had a chance at any point after that. It remains one of my must-see movies.

Also, I recently sat down with my girlfriend and had her watch Star Wars (the original trilogy), as she had never seen them before. She returned the favor by getting me to watch Alien. We cover each other's sci-fi misses =)
