Jack saw the group making their way and from the clinic out. Intrigued, he made his way over until he could see without being seen. He kept the Scorcher far enough away that it wouldn't be noticed but easily be able to reach him. Seeing the group he held his hand up in a fist and mentally ordered them to stop before making his way forward to face the group with the scorcher.

"They've...stopped?" Lisa muttered with confusion but some relief. The smoke was starting to get thicker from behind the zombies. The scorcher came into view and dread hit her, but her attention drew to the man who was walking beside it. Her eyes widened at the sight.
"What the hell...Adries,Is that...?"

"That looks like..." Adries started, stopping behind Jacobs.

"Um...shit," Jacobs said nervously, holding up his M16, "Alright, if things turn bad-"
"Don't say shit like that!" Adries replied abruptly.

Jack walked close enough so that he could clearly recognize Lisa and Adries. He stopped where he could be clearly seen and stood there to allow them to make the first move. They determined their fate, they could either talk or they could attack him and he could kill them. He knew they couldn't defeat him so he felt no reason to take the initiative. The scorcher simply stood beside and slightly behind him.

A few beats passed of silence between them, aside from the groans coming from the zombies behind him. Lisa took a few small steps forward. She didn't know whether she was doing the smart thing nor were the words she searched for in her mind. The scorcher was intimidating and was watching her as she moved.
"...Jack. Is that you?"

"Yes, but not as you used to know me." Jack said simply. Once again he wanted to see where this would go, so he let them lead the conversation.

"No shit it's him," Adries told Lisa, looking at Jack then to the zombies behind him, "So, how's it hanging?"
Jacobs slightly lowered his gun, not really sure what to do. He knew he wouldn't be able to fight back, but that he also needed to protect them. He started to sweat at the heat permeating from the Scorcher, wiping his brow he looked back at Jack.

"Well thanks to your sister," he said as he pointed to Lisa "And your brother," at this he pointed to Adries "I am now leading the zombies." He once again replied simply and let them lead the conversation.

"What? What do you mean leading the zombies?! More importantly what do you mean thanks to them?" Lisa asked in a demanding tone, hiding her fear at where this was going.

Adries and Jacobs were silent, both trying to figure out what was going on. Adries was glancing around, trying to find the best way to escape in case things turned ugly.

"Do you think you can let us go?" Jacobs asked after a moment to bring up his courage.

"Good question, let me explain. To skip most of the boring details, I was detained in this base, Christie found my cell on guard duty, and I struck her a deal. She gets to kill me if I become a zombie. Well, she jumped at the offer and convinced Alan, through lies I'm sure, to give her a sample of the virus in a vial and a syringe. Christie breaks me out of prison and infects me, at which point I begin writing down my symptoms as per our agreement. I thought I would become some shambling buffoon and be bludgeoned to death, henceforth putting me out of my misery. I start hearing voices in my head before I pass out in excruciating pain and 'die', if you can call it that. By a strange twist of fate however, I find that not only am I a special infected, but I am mentally and verbally able to not only control the zombies, but hear them. So every infected from the standard shambler to the strangest and strongest of special infected reports to me now, and I can hear every word they want to say with every moan." Jack said neutral faced as he looked at them.

"I can and I will let at least one of you leave. Lisa, you are the last bastion of pure humanity I have seen since this began. You are selfless, honest, altruistic to an unquestionable degree, and most importantly, innocent. I hold nothing but respect and the highest regard for you, so if no one else will survive this, I will make sure you do. I am not so sure if the other two of you will live or die, but that is Lisa's choice. I will let Lisa keep those close to her alive as she deems fit, but if any of you try to stop me or the coming evolution, I will not hesitate to stop you. That is my deal and the terms are non-negotiable. Kaufman will die though, that is not up for any debate or discussion."

Lisa thought over the words with both disbelief and dread at what Christie had done. She finally spoke up in a feigned composed tone.

"Jack. I don't know what to say...we'll accept your deal and won't do anything rash. Please, allow Adries and Jacobs past with me and please allow both Alan and Albert to be safe for now too. I don't know why you would believe me as special or should have such a decision, but I'm humbled even so. I'm very sorry for what Christie did, even if you wanted it to happen. She did what she does best and now this has happened."

"First of all don't be sorry for what Christie did. I was sick and tired of being human, selfishness, greed, hatred, and a multitude of other things that brought about humanity's downfall. You were the last glow of a star long ago gone out honesty, altruism, innocence, optimism, and most importantly, hope in the face of overwhelming despair. These are traits that set you apart from the rest of the survivors, and traits that will make your death an unrecognized tragedy. I know if the Bixlers had exhibited more of your traits and morality, this never would have happened. I will let those you just named live for now, but what you see in Alan I will never understand. If he continues his research though, I will be forced to go call on the stopping the coming evolution clause of our deal.

I will need some way for the zombies to identify this, Albert. A picture will suffice, but something with a scent will work much better. Then I can ensure the safety of all those you just named. I will warn you now to not try and stop me or my kind, if you do, I will be forced to raise my hand." Jack said completely neutral as he got the zombies to go silent again, their moaning starting to annoy him slightly.

Adries got out her wallet and looked through the pictures. She slowly made her way to Jack, initially stopped by Jacobs for a moment. She showed Jack the photo of her uncle, before putting it back inside the wallet and walking back to Jacobs of Lisa quickly.

"So we can go right?" Jacobs asked, his finger on the trigger in case anything happened.

"I believe so, with fingers crossed." Lisa muttered to Jacobs before turning back to Jack.
"Was the photo enough? If not, I believe that he's around the area with Alan. But anyway, I promise to follow the clauses of the deal and I hopefully know that you'll stick to what you've promised too." She said respectfully.

Jack gave the order to not attack any of the following to the infected with the faces pictured is his mind. He gave them the order to freely move while still obeying his previous order. A leaper went by them and only stopped long enough to look at Lisa's face.

"They will not attack. This is why you are different from the others, you are optimistic and altruistic enough to make a deal with the dead, and honest enough so that I know you will uphold your end of our bargain. I would suggest you stay as far away from the military as possible." He looked to Jacobs.

"You as well, if Lisa wants you alive and you want to live. Go AWOL and never look back. If you have more people to add to this list, you must find me."

Jacobs was silent, a look of terror and hatred running across his face. Adries shook his arm, indicating that they should go now. Jacobs nodded and started to lead them back to their destination, looking over his shoulder every few minutes.

Alan was growing worried. He was constantly checking his equipment that he brought, annoying Dewey greatly.
"Can ya' just relax?" Dewey asked, sitting in the driver's seat, "They'll get here. There is just a lot of stuff goin' on."
"Yeah I know. I just can't help it," Alan replied, tapping his fingers.
"They'll get here, don't worry," Albert said.

Lisa turned to Jack before she followed.
"Thank you." She spoke with courtesy, giving a nod, then catching up with the others. She almost tripped over a dead soldier as she ran which made her cringe a little before regaining herself. She caught up, a even-tempered look on her face, but the image of the leaper who looked at her was in her mind.

"It's nothing." Jack said as he walked back through the remains of the base. Five more and soon enough the military would be little more than an annoyance.

Jacobs led them out of the base, safely getting them to the edge of the base where the APC was hidden in the forest. Albert jumped out of it and hugged Adries, "Glad to see you guys made it out."
"Yeah same. Let's go before anything gets weirder and shit," Adries replied to him, taking a quick look at the inside of the APC before hopping in.
Alan gave her a tap on the shoulder, telling her that they need to talk.
"Alright, alright. Just, later 'kay? I don't think I can deal with anymore," Adries said to him.
