She considered the answer again, her face returning to it's usual seriousness.
"I'm in control of the squads. My own objective is somewhat...more serious and more independent. You, of course understand that if i told you anything more than that, i'd have to kill myself. I took an oath to complete my objective on behalf of my superiors in complete confidentiality. i choose to leave it at that." Christie spoke with firmness.
She chose to ignore the earlier comments, he obviously knew what she was capable of.

Lisa cupped a hand to her mouth. No way...
"I-I can't believe it. How do you know? I mean of course i believe you, but how did you find out?" She asked him placing an arm on his shoulder in reassurance.

"Well, not sure on exactly what she would do if she found out who either of us are. I can only assume Adries would be taken out immediately, she has no actual knowledge on the science going on. I, on the other hand, would probably be tortured for information then killed. Fun," Alan said, a distressed look growing on his face, "I know this because my family members told me that this is how the military will respond. When the outbreak happened I hacked into the government files and confirmed that this would happen."

"So, yeah. Crap. I can't tell you anymore, I've already told you enough. I just hope no one let's it slip. If so then the Bixler siblings are toast."

"I understand what you're saying, but I have a question, a hypothetical if you will. What if that order you accepted went against the best interest of the public and the world at large? What if you had to decide between defending your government and defending the people that that government is supposed to protect? What if you could save many lives over the course of history at the cost of disobeying an order? Many people far greater than either of us have had to make that decision, and I'd like to know that answer. For my sake, I would defy the order without a second thought. I would defend my action by saying that my allegiance lies with the people a government represents and not the government itself. What would you say and how would you defend your stance?" Jack asked calmly.

Christie was generally shellshocked, her mind worked quickly, the gears pumping but the answer wasn't coming easily, finally she spoke,
"I fully grasp what you're saying. I have my own alliances at heart, and of course i would act on them to save those that were endangered. But there's something more to the oath i took, something that i honestly am not at responsibility to go into at all. I will say that if my actions, could craft what happens to this point onwards i'd do more. At this point, I'm going to follow through with what i've been told, but in all honesty i'd know that there are some things i couldn't do. If such a time comes, my mind belongs to saving the people i swore to protect years ago and i'd deal with the effects from my superiors. But right now, i need to follow through with what I'm expected to do."
Her voice remained strong, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it.
She pointed to the pack in her top jacket pocket to offer him one.

"I still can't believe it...UGH. Of all the people...Look you and Adries are going to be safe. I promise." She couldn't even imagine what Alan had described to her, closing her eyes to get rid of the image.

Ivan smiled at Jack's verbal attack. "And this is where she starts to squirm." he thought to himself.

He then spoke. "Okay, how about if i take watch. I won't kill my own teammates and I could care less about attacking Christie as long as she does not attack one of us."

Alan smiled, "Thanks. I appreciate that. Sorry that I had to be the one who told you. Should we head back with the snacks? I don't really want to go, but it gets suspicious, you know?" He looked back again, hearing Jack and Christie's voices. 'Probably bantering,' he thought.

Jack knew she was squirming and went on the attack.

"Right now, your actions do craft what happens. You have the means and resources to save millions if not billions of lives around the world, but you would have to defy that direct order. I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it doesn't involve giving out the information of what caused this and why to the world. I'm not stupid, this is a cover up op, this isn't a rescue. If it were a rescue we would be hearing gunfire and explosions across the city, since that isn't the case and one plus one doesn't equal 3, I assume you are on cleanup duty. If you give out that information your superiors and the US government are brought down like a ton of bricks, but nobody will attempt the research again.

If nobody attempts the research then this won't happen again. Look around you, if you clean this up and bury it, what will happen next time. What if they can't just clean it up? Imagine New York, Paris, Beijing, London, and every other major city looking just like this one. Imagine people flooding into formerly nearly uninhabited areas swelling with refugees nobody can handle. Katrina was just a hurricane and the Tsunami in the Indian ocean was just a giant wave. Look at how damaging both those events were to the world at large. The black death is trivial compared to this thing, and it threw Europe into complete and utter chaos for hundreds of years. Imagine if the corpses of the black death came back to life and started infecting anything that got in their way, that is what you are dealing with. You hold the future in your hands, what will you do with it?" Jack spoke passionately.

"You don't understand Mr. Jackson. Our efforts here are rescue, our numbers are limited and i've lost a lot of brave men who gave their lives for others. My intentions are far from what you believe. You honestly think i've been told to bury all of this? We're going to ensure that nothing of this caliber happens again. My men are a well-oiled machine, from the report I received a few hours ago, we have save over 800 civilians today and eliminated more than five-times that amount of infected. If you think for a moment that i'd put the lives of every man, woman and child in every capital at risk in favor for completing a order, You are foolish man. I wouldn't have taken up this assignment, if it didn't involve making sure that whatever caused this is to burn and never be resurrected. I can't tell you about what would happen to me if i disbanded this without a good reason, but i tell you this, I will complete my orders and the future will be safe." Christie replied with a tone so serious it could've sliced through cement.
She turned to Ivan and simply added.
"Oh, that's unnecessary of you. I'm going to be on watch at all times. You can too if you want, but I'm not going anywhere."

Lisa was worried about him, "Stay here for a while, as you can hear she's busy. Plus you're with me, they can hear us mumbling, here smash another vending machine to make it less suspicious." Her mind saying as many suggestions as possible, "I'm sorry that this is happening to you, what she does doesn't involve me, so i feel a lot worse for you two..."

"Let's hope they argue for longer. More time staying here. Chatting, eating delicious snacks," Alan replied, walking over to the next vending machine. He tried to punch it, reeling back in pain when his hand bounced back. "I expected that would make me feel better, guess not," he said, clutching his hand. He picked up his machete with his other hand and broke the machine, "That's better. And, it's okay. I know you have nothing to do with this. I just wish there was an easy solution to my predicament. I can only really imagine two, but anyways. Never mind. Don't want you involved."

"Not to belittle your loss, but I think some of the corpses here would like to refute what you say. You may think you are doing the right thing, but when I see un-bitten cops with bullet holes in their heads, I don't think rescue. You know what I think? I think murder, I think genocide, but mostly I think cover up. Your small team theory also falls apart under scrutiny. A rescue op would never have a small team moving in, especially in the continental US, they would have a force sizable enough to deal with the entire city if need be. You may save civilians and you may not, I don't know, but you sure as hell didn't save anyone here. Again, the dead refute your claims. Even if you do save everyone in the city and get us out, you haven't stopped this. Even if you obliterate the city you haven't stopped this, you've only prolonged it, delayed it.

You don't stop a virus by killing the infected alone, you educate and search for a vaccine or cure. The black death didn't stop ravaging Europe until the weather got better and the people learned to bathe. Right now you are in that winter and the peasants are stewing in their own filth. Will you kill the people with black boils and hope it never comes up again, or will teach the people to clean themselves and bring the temperature up? You may be doing good work, but ultimately it is nothing but a band aid on a slit throat." Jack calmly said.

"You do not have to explain yourself to me, but one day you will need to explain yourself to someone or something. What will you say? I knew what I could have done, but I just followed orders. I hope you can deal with yourself when this thing comes back. Either in the metaphorical or literal sense, you will know what you could have done. The blood will be on many people's hands. The blood of the officers in this station already run down yours, I presume, will the future dead be on yours as well?"

Her patience was beginning to slip, but remained cool,
"You misunderstood what i meant by small group, we have small groups around different areas in order to cope with the situation. I haven't even the slightest idea on what happened here, I arrived here following my own plan and found a slaughter, I wasn't involved with what happened here. I also fully comprehend that the virus cannot be stopped by killing those infected, but the means of disposing of it so nothing like this can happen again. Trust me, I've been sent in order to gain information that will eventually aid us in the research to stop this. Now, please point me in the right direction here, but i get the feeling that you've got other intentions than the rest of this group? As i said you're a well-educated man who has an idea on what it takes to put a stop to this. Am i correct?"

Lisa laughed at Alan's attempts at punching the vending machine. Then sat against the wall, unwrapping a Hershey's bar.
"Look, we're a team, we've got to help one another out here. That makes us all involved if one of us was about to be knocked off. What ideas did you have?"

"I can't tell you those ideas. You'll find out, though I know for a fact one you wouldn't like. But, I can't help the way things are. Everything was going fine, and then the fucking virus had to get stolen," Alan told her, hitting the last vending machine a few times before breaking it. "Then all those hopes and dreams were lost. Whoever stole it was retarded and let it get into the system; bet they didn't realize it would affect everyone everywhere. God, it pisses me off. All going great, but then that had to happened. And now I'm being hunted down just because of my existence! Such bullshit," he said angrily, grabbing a bag of doritos and sitting down next to her.

"If you didn't kill them who did? I don't know of many groups that could gain the trust of cops enough to kill them execution style with what appears to be little fuss at first. Even evaporating the city won't stop or dispose of this. The only way to truly stop it is to find the research of whatever caused this and disseminate it to the public. National governments and US citizens alike will be outraged at what has happened here. We show them what happened, what this city has become, and we tell them why it happened. The people would never allow that type of research again, and the international community would share the same sentiment.

We allow scientists to see how it happened so they will not repeat the process by accident or design. Your superiors would have you hand over the information to them and only them so they might continue this abomination while they try to cure it for their own purposes. I'm sure you know this, and I think you see how my plan is the one that will mitigate the damage in the future the most. It makes it so no one man holds all the card, but instead everyone holds the same cards and can see them the entire time. Your superiors want everyone blindfolded but them as they play, that's how war works. I want everyone to be able to recognize the signs of what happened here, so they may recognize it the next time and stop it before it starts.

Unfortunately I have no real information for you. I myself am grasping at strays for clues, in fact, you know much more than I do. I only came here with the group to find an old friend and some supplies. If it wasn't for that we wouldn't even be sitting here talking."

I can't believe what I'm hearing...and I'm actually agreeing with it. No, dammit you need to stay on task, consider the reprocutions of turning back now. He knows what he's talking about...If i stay with this group for a while, before they move to St. Justine's i'll find more information on the Bixlers.
She took another drag from her cigarette.
"If I even considered what you were saying and didn't hand over the information i might find to my superiors, What would you intend that i do with it? Who would i give it to, considering what is expected of me? As I said, I'm going to continue with what i've been told to do and there's nothing that can stop that. However, I might reconsider what happens to the information i gather." Christie spoke while making sure that all her communication was offline still.

"All i can say is that is the only way to describe what happened this past week. Bullshit. And i'll say this now, whatever happens in the end, happens. I won't feel any bad blood towards anyone afterwards. Just like she probably wouldn't feel anything if something happened to me." She said swallowing a mouthful of chocolate. Lisa leant her head against Alan's shoulder, she didn't want to sleep anymore.

"If you don't hand it over to your superiors you have many options. The UN, any respected scientist in the field of biotechnology, college professors, or Release it to the media. If you include pictures or video of these things, the media will jump all over this story and ride it like a damn bronco. Hell release it to everyone I just mentioned, make copies, disseminate it to as many people as you can as soon as you can. The more people who know and the more evidence you have to back those notes up, the more people will question, and questions are your superior's worst nightmares." Jack said.

"You know, I always prepared myself for zombies. I'm a nerd and nerds love zombies. I remember watching all those old zombies movies and thinking 'What would I do?'. And now, I'm actually in a zombiepocalypse and dealing with it okay. Well, other than the fact that I'm a part that caused it. But, you deal with that. It's amazing how quickly everything can change," Alan said, putting his arm around Lisa and munching on his chips.

"I had a plan, but as soon as it actually happens all of them went down the drain! I told myself that I would go up north into like, Canada or something and find that Wal-Mart or Kmart...whatever it was. The one that was prepped for zombies with like, a mote and stuff. I planned on going there and hanging out with all those Canadians until it was safe to go back. Guess that won't happen. Stupid zombies."

"I might consider it. Believe it or not i actually have a conscience, i'll keep that in deep consideration for a later date when i have everything i need," She stubbed the cigarette under her boots and turned to face him again, "Have you heard the saying Quid Pro Quo?"

"My plan wasn't a lot different from yours. I was going to wait out a few weeks with my mother at home, ration out food, then we'd travel back to our hometown and wait it out when the majority of riots and stuff would be over. Then i imagined the government coming and saving us, then we went to live in a sanitized community while they dealt with all of the zombies, Too bad that when you come up with these plans, Zombies aren't there, chasing you down." Lisa replied taking a chip from the packet and eating it.
"To think. I used to enjoy zombie movies. If i could travel back in time, i'd slap myself in the face and say take note on everything you see in 'Dawn of the Dead'! Then i would've sent her off to slap some sense into you." She giggled.

"I have, but I have no information that would be of interest to you. As I said I have been grasping at the shortest of straws for any amount of information. All I've learned is that there are research notes somewhere in the city. Other than that I have nothing on the virus or the location of said notes." Jack said calmly.

Alan chuckled, "Now that you said Dawn of the Dead I want to go to a mall. I'm sure that wouldn't be a stupid idea!" He laughed, shaking his head, "Fucking zombies. At least they aren't 'The Infected' that are so popular nowadays. You know, the Olympic sprinter zombies. That would suck if all the zombies were like that. I'd just say we're fucked and end it all. So, I'm at least thankful that we have slow and dull zombies." Alan yawned, looking at his watch. "Christ, it's late. And that rain doesn't make it any better," he said, halfway through getting another yawn.

((Be back in...20 minutes.))

"Ugh. It must suck to be in 28 days later situation, we wouldn't have lasted even a day if that was the case. I don't know if you know this, but you sound so much like your sister, We almost took a detour into a mall because of her earlier, I even remember her thinking about building a moat around the school not too long ago." Lisa explained, "What time is it?"

"Not a trade in information. A trade in services. If you allow me to join your group momentarily until it's believed we should part ways, I will release any updates i receive about the situation and few bits of information I have at my disposal, apart from my main objective which is a clear No-no. Now. I will allow you to think this over, I'm going to survey the area. Do whatever you will follow me or remain here. It's none of my business." She offered before standing and stretching.
