Lisa waved with her free hand to them.
"Well, eventually all other sugar would be obsolete because of the new and improved 'crash-free' sugar."

Christie turned and raised an eyebrow to Lisa. Then turned and left them for a moment, while she went to her bag and put away the tin she had held carefully in her pocket. She felt a vibration in her other pocket and immediately picked it up.
"We finally fixed the connection. Where is your current location?"
She quickly put her bag down and went up the stairs with the phone against her ear.
"Currently idle inside the Police station. Connection is still bad due to weather conditions."

"I'll even make the sugar taste better than any other sugar. Maybe make it like those healthy ones...but good tasting," Alan said to her, "It's certainly within my abilities. Might take a few years of research but it should be possible."

"As long as it tastes good I'll have some Jesse," Adries replied, accentuating his fake name. Alan just smiled at her, "No problem. I'll start taking donations now if you want to be the first."

"I'll invest, but you better tell me when you start selling stocks as well. I want to have some major stock holdings in whatever company comes up with the cash cow that is crash-less sugar before everyone else does. Then I can have some wealth out of all this." Jack joked as he walked back in.

"At least we have one more thing to look forward to in a few years time. Remind me to give you a donation as soon as money is worth something again?" Lisa said with a long yawn.

"Did you find the target?"
Christie bit her lip, "No. He isn't confirmed yet."
"Your choice in what to do in this situation was neither admirable or damnable. Where are you traveling after this?"
"Following Intel to Major Sylvester J. Superior High School for the Arts, Where Officer. Bixler's daughter was confirmed to be inside a few days ago. When are you expecting next report?"
"In 6 hours time, be careful on the way, there is a heavily mutated infected 20 minutes from here on Wagner street, take an alternate route and you should be fine."
"Thank you." She hung up and put the phone away.

"Oh, hey! Thank you Lisa! You just made me remember that I could rob a bank and get the money for the research. It'd be easy to rob too," Alan said, taking a seat over at his bed next to Adries, "Simply genius. Sorry we didn't bring back any food, however. Forgot."

"Okay yeah, whatever," Adries replied with a laugh, feeling better now that she had had time to think things over.

Lisa shrugged "Sorry."
"Oh, but considering our luck, what if the bank security guards mutated into super zombies? And the only memory they have of being human is to protect the money at all costs?" She smirked, "And hell throw in a hurricane to make things worse."
She had kept the gummy bears from the lobby in her pocket and she slipped a hand in and secretly put a few in her mouth.

"And now you make it seem like a bad idea. Thanks," Alan replied with a sigh, "I guess the donations are back on."

"Alright, can we turn off these lights and go to bed? It's fucking late and I'm tired," Adries said, pointing up at the lights.
"The controls are behind the desk, hold on," Alan replied, standing up and going behind the desk. He looked at the control panel and fished out his keys, finding the one his dad had given him and using it to unlock the panel. "So, I guess it's bed time everyone. I'll keep one of these sidelights on though."

Yawning once again, she got into a free bed, kicking her boots off. She shivered a little, and pulled the cover over her and lying down.
"Goodnight everyone. I suppose another day in paradise starts tomorrow. "

Christie's heart raced when the lights turned off, she considered pulling her gun again when she started to hear the weary voices of the others saying goodnight to one another. She held the banister to head down but leaded by the final dim light. After a few moments she reached the parlor; taking up her seat, then taking a few notes in her pad.

"Night everyone, thanks for finally deciding to go to sleep!" Adries said, curling up in her bed and putting her jacket over her.

Alan stretched before lying down, staring up at the ceiling. 'There's no way I can fall asleep,' he thought to himself, looking at everyone around him, 'I need to go back and look at dad. There must have been something he would have left for either Adries or I. He wouldn't leave us high and dry.' He looked over at Christie, 'She'll be the problem.'

"I'll take watch, god knows I won't be able to sleep until we get back to the school anyway." Jack said fairly quietly as he went back to sitting in the corner.

Alan looked around, trying to come up with a plan. 'Christie would be the main problem, she'll notice me trying to sneak off. Jack would wonder what I'm doing too...but he's the only one I can think of.' Alan stood up and stretched. "I need to go to the bathroom," he said out loud, walking over to the lobby, near the corner where Jack was. He muttered, "I need to be alone, distract her so that I can head back to the academy area. Please?"

"Do the best I can, I figure its to see your father. If it isn't I'll assume if its pertinent you'll tell me when the time comes." Jack whispered then got up and moved to the side of Christie so to speak to him she'd be forced to look away and sat down.

"You know you never did say how you ended up in the military and this hellhole in the first place. Did they paradrop you in, quarantine the area and move you in by convoy, or something completely different? I'll share my life's story if you share yours." Jack tried to make conversation.

Alan thanked Jack as he snuck past the lobby and into the academy hallway. He walked down the hallway and stopped before the office door. He took a deep breath and opened it. "Alright dad, speak to me," he muttered, looking at his dad. He searched the obvious areas first; all the pockets and cabinets. He then checked behind any books and cursed when he didn't find anything. He calmed down and looked closely to see if anything was off.

Then he spotted his dad's razor stabbed on the floor next to him. 'He always kept that hidden in socks!' Alan thought, rushing over and taking off his dad's shoes. He gagged a bit as he felt his dad's cold legs, reaching into the socks and getting out a small sheet of paper.

'Jackpot.'

Christie didn't expect Jack, it sufficed to say that she was exhausted. She turned her head and answered him.
"They took me in via helicopter, all other personnel were driven in on convoys. A delegated convoy to each part of the city and about 4 or 5 designated to protect and enforce around St. Justine's and the meeting point. The helicopter transported me to the helipad atop of the TV broadcasting building then i climbed down. I've been on foot from that moment, taking up hiding to cars in real danger with those who have mutations. What about this group? How have you been getting around unscathed? I saw the hummer, but there isn't enough damage for that to be your only vehicle."

"We have been using whatever vehicles were around in the parking lot. Tulip is pretty damn good at hot-wiring a car, Ivan has his truck, and we were also able to find a couple of U-hauls that we have been using to truck around supplies, and a massive store of weaponry." Jack pointed to the ak resting on his shoulder.

"That stash was how I got this baby, before this it was a shotgun, and before that a pair of scissors."

"I see. I suppose I've been lucky enough to have my arsenal pre-issued. It must've been difficult defending yourself only with scissors. Might i ask, how did you come across the weapons? Picking up piece by piece or raiding?" She asked, then receiving a message on her phone and fishing it out to look at it.

Alan walked back towards the Main hall, sneaking past Jack and Christie and making it look like he came from the lobby. He stood around for a moment and yawned, then went to sleep. He had tucked the piece of paper in his t-shirt jacket, keeping it as close to himself as possible.

'Show Adries tomorrow, then figure out what to do,' he thought, closing his eyes and falling to sleep.

"Well the scissors were just laying around in my room at the school, the shotgun was brought back on a trip home by a faculty member, and the ak was courtesy of our friend Ivan. His family owned a gun store and we loaded every weapon we could find in the U-haul with all the ammo we could fit." Jack explained.

"So I guess by raiding areas we knew to be friendly. Though the same could not be said about our food and water me and Tulip have the scars to prove it."

Ivan patrolled the perimeter, checking for anyone who would be unfriendly. "I hate this. i feel like a rat in a cage. a deadly rat, but in a cage nonetheless. I wanna see sky dammit!" He muttered.

Christie's face began to frown when she read the message, slid it back in her pocket and returned to facing him.
"A lot of people turned against one another after this started. We've had a few standoffs started because of the people who lost at least part of their sanity because of this. I take it something similar happened with you?"
