The whole portrayal of the Brittish system in America drives me mad at the moment, just because we've come up with a system that aims to help people rather than the drug and insurance companies that simply wants profits we are portrayed as dangerous unhappy socialists who all really want to change to the American system!
In the UK most people like the NHS, given that we're Brittish we do complain about it, but it is in fact possible to critiscise elements of a system without wanting to dismantle it, most people accept the fact that it is desirable for people to be able to be treated for their illnesses without having to take into account for their income/savings. For instance, am I the only one who finds it morally disturbing that when involved in a car accident when I was young in the USA the first thing the ambulance crew had to ask my Dad was 'Do you want to be taken to hospital?' Given that it was not an insignificant crash and that there were too children under 12 in the car, the chance of harm was not negligible. Yet, if my Dad had not had insurance, or been able to afford it then we would not have been able to get a check up.
Anyway, rant just about over, I prefer the Brittish system because it is immeasurably fairer, whatever the Neo-cons and insurance companies try and tell the american people.
