Responding to all those saying that she could have been buying other products/Holding the bags for another, I forgot to mention that her outfit was somewhat... Questionable...

I do acknowledge that Victoria's Secret sells more than lingerie, but given the situation, it seems unlikely. Also, if she was carrying a small bag that would be one thing, but both of her bags were the large 2' by 1' department store bags.

Please note, I am not calling anyone who buys something from Victoria's Secret a bad person, I was just using this girl as a single example of what everyone here knows is happening to young girls (and boys) due to the nature of our society.
The fact that it's large bag actually means it's probably more innocent than you think. Large bag would probably mean pajamas or sweatpants (VS makes some of the comfiest sweatpants ever, and before I get the odd looks I might want to qualify with the whole female perspective thing). Honestly, the real lingerie usually goes in small bags unless you're buying large quantities of it, but it's also super-expensive and what 13 year old without a personal shopper has five hundred bucks to drop on lingerie? So really...everyone should just get their mind out of the gutter.

And 13 years old also means she's at the age where it's time to start wearing a bra. All you men, consider yourselves lucky you've never had to go through bra-shopping. It can be ridiculously hard to find one that fits comfortably. And the options: padding, plunge, underwire, racerback, hooks in the back, hooks in the front, etc. VS actually has a good selection and fairly comfy bras. And it's not just lingerie style, either. The Pink line mentioned earlier isn't just for kids, it's also cheaper, more casual undergarments.

I think this is a bit of an overreaction to something most likely pretty innocent.

We are creating a corporate army of 15 year old girls with which to invade the world and turn it into a totalitarian state governed by.....you know, i think i'll stop before I give away to much.

That and they are ripping my ideas off. I need better security for my computers.

Last time I checked, buying underwear, regardless of age isn't wrong. Okay, they wanna pay $20+ dollars for their first starter bra, by all means. Doesn't mean they're buying thigh highs and crotchless panties for their "lady of the night" title.

Susan Arendt said:
Victoria's Secret sells cotton PJs, perfume, soap, body lotion...all sorts of things that would be perfectly appropriate for a little girl to buy. Not everything there is a merry widow or thigh highs.
If you've every walked in a VS store, like REALLY walked in, they have other things in there like Susan said. It just goes to show you that sometimes your first impressions can be completely wrong.

So if a 13yr old going through puberty wearing an overpriced bra and panties for her age, that's for her and her parents to discuss, not you. If anything, why should it matter to you? Are you shopping for 13yr olds that shop at Baby Gap still? -rolls eyes- Give me a break. I refuse to shop there and I'm 21 cause I'd rather pay $56 for a bra that actual supports me. Not $56 cause it'll look good on my boyfriend's floor.

If teenage girls are looking at how women are portrayed by today's standards then I blame, yes, the media. Also, I put some blame on men giving teenagers and women the impression that they want look for in a woman. You know damn well you don't want your girlfriend, sister, cousin walking out the house looking like a hussy. But all in all, it's okay for models to do it? Yeah, bite me, hypocrites.

I can't say I've heard of that shop, I'll Google it in a minute.

But if she's about 12/13, you can't stop her growing up.
We don't have VS's in Canada either, it's a Lingerie shop...

Our equivalent is either La Vie En Rose or La Senza.
Just Googled it now...

If she bought clothes from there, I think we have a problem!

How is it a problem? Honestly. That's like saying having her walk in the intimates section of the mall to get underwear is a problem. Holy hell.

This is your captain speaking. Please proceed to take your heads out your asses and grow up.

Because girls that age shouldn't be dressing like that.

Sorry. Women aren't allowed on submarines.

EDIT: If you get this joke. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Hmm... Thinking about it (your first paragraph in particular) I suppose it's possible. I will not retract my previous statements because even if THAT girl wasn't buying the type of clothing that Victoria's Secret is more famous for, there are a fair amount of girls that do. I just feel like today's society has made young children feel that they have to grow up too fast.

As for the arguement of "Roman times", I do not think that the way they treated women and young girls as nothing more than breeders and servants awful. Compared to the last century, children have been under more pressure than ever to mature quickly, find a job, get into the ivy league school, etc.

Insult me, call me stupid, do what you want. That is the entire point of a forum. =)

So girls are wearing bras and panties outside of their clothes? Last time I checked it was underneath. Also, VS is NOT slutty. You can go to Wal*Mart, Target and go into their underwear department and get underwear from there like you would at VS. From thongs to boyshorts, etc. It's what they use them for. Unless he WENT to them and ask them what they were doing shopping at VS (WHICH is none of his damn business in the first place). You can make a simple jeans and tee look slutty. So please, save it for someone who's lived in a cave for their whole life.

Maybe the bag had some sleepwear or some outdoor clothes in, after all, if the bag was quite large, then there must have been some clothes that were bigger than underwear in them. She also might have re-used some bags, too.

They sell sexy teddies and garters in Wal-Mart. I don't think Victoria's Secret is a problem.

I want kids to stay kids for as long as they can. It bothers me my daughters will grow up too fast because society forces maturity on them.

Kids should be allowed to be kids - Victoria Secret should be ashamed of their 'Pink Section'.
I know they need to make money but life is long, childhood is short and getting shorter every year for reasons like this.

EDIT: I should clarify - of the Pink Section my concerns are that it's in the same shop and exposing children to their other more adult products.
Forcing maturity on them, huh? I'm not going to say that it's a bad thing to worry about, but I hope it's for the right reasons. You should be careful with your own ideals of what a child should be, after all. Growing up too fast is far from a good thing, but it's not exactly wonderful to have your growth stifled by overprotection, either.

Let's be aware of the other side of the bell curve, shall we? Rather than "kids should be kids", shouldn't it be "kids should be themselves"? Saying that by catering to the female sex as a whole, Victoria's Secret is "taking kids' childhood away", is somewhat... Even if girls do start looking in the other sections of the store sooner than they would've normally, it's not as if they'll fully understand the connotations that go along with lingerie, if they're too young to see the purpose. Even if you were to explain it to them plainly - something like, "people find it more attractive to wear special underwear", or something - they'll either fail to see the point, or they'll understand why you'd buy and wear such things. In either case, it's a response, not a sudden shift along some defined scale of maturity.

Even if we ignore the full issue behind it all - meaning, the pros and cons of "childhood innocence" - the fact remains, it's just not something weak enough to come crashing down over a few pieces of expensive underwear. Hell, when I was in elementary school, I saw quite a few girls with pencil cases and bags adorned with the Playboy Bunny. They knew that it was from a "men's magazine", but they just liked them because it was a pink rabbit, and pink rabbits are cute. Regardless of what "should've" been happening, they just didn't care about the other meanings of the symbol. If younger girls take an honest liking to lingerie, it's because they think it looks nice; if they're doing it to seem "more adult", then they'd be shopping at Victoria's Secret regardless. And then, it's a problem that society has, and not something you can seriously fault some clothing chain for.

They aren't necessarily "dressing like that", as Susan pointed out, she could have bought pajamas, soap, ordinary underwear (see my More Comfortable than dept. store stuff arguement earlier) or any other selection of non-lingerie things.

Could be a bit over-reacting though, as Victoria's Secret is NOT just sexy underwear. Sure it is mostly that but unless she is parading around in JUSt that, then its not so bad.
