Don't be silly, a PS3, even not, is hugely expensive. The few exclusives that aren't available on a PC hardly justify the huge price range, or the added price of games. Not to mention the cost of an adequate screen to game on.
PC gaming, over the life of the PC (usually about 2 console generations if it's well built) is substantially cheaper. Unless I come into money sometime soon, control schemes aren't going to impact my decision.
most ps3 exclusives are not on pc, alot of xbox exclusives are.
The relatively meager sum of PS3 games that aren't available on PC are not enough to justify buying an entire console. There aren't very many, fuck, even if every game released on the PS3 was unavailable on the PC, the high price and low lifespan of the console isn't worth it to many PC gamers. Think about it, at $60-$110+ (I'm Australian, the prices are high but the scaling is pretty much the same regardless of where you are) a pop for PS3 title (of which, let's be outrageous and call it 100, titles) compared to the unlimited mod library and insanely cheap, near unlimited library of PC games.
A few weeks ago, I bought for less than half the price of a new PS3 game the entire red faction series, dawn of war+expansions, company of heroes+ expansions, Supcom+expansion, titan question + expansion and full spectrum warrior+ expansion and S.T.A.L.K.E.R the shadow of Chernobyl as well as a few others. It was 13 games/expansions in total, at least 4 of which current are current gen (some are older). Hell, 5 minutes on steam (and overpriced, bloated pile of shit) reveals oblivion and it's expansions are $8.50US (which I can't be bothered converting to AU exactly, but is somewhere around the $10au mark). I actually saw obvlivion (not GOTY edition) selling used for $30 in a gamestore the other week. I can't stress enough just how expensive consoles are, most gamers can't afford it, end of.

If you have a tv that you can hook up your computer to it it will destroy the tv in under a month. Anything that is stationary like huds in alot of fps games or even if you leave it at the desktop it will burn that image into your tv. Tvs and moniters are very different and its a bad idea to hook your computer up to one.
As for the graphics that again because a tv is much bigger then a monitor. Its easier to get higher level of graphics when the picture is 4 or 5 times smaller or even more. As for the cost of upgrading a normal desktop that really depends on what you consider a normal desktop. My desktop runs just fine for everything but games and their is no reason to upgrade it unless its for a pure gaming purpose. Its also 10 years old and hasnt been updated since then. Thats not an uncommon case for most people to have. Although i have a laptop that i often game on and can run anything out right now. Its also only cheaper if you get parts at a discount and know enough about computers to install everything which most people dont. For your average gamer pc gaming is much more expensive.
The myth that PC gaming is initially more expensive than consoles annoys me for reasons I can't explain. I'm from Australia, and even with our ridiculous prices for all things computers, I could probably make your 10 year old computer[footnote]My fathers 6 year old, mid-low end desktop is about $100 away from being able to run all games, smoothly in full HD. It currently has been able to run every single game I've tried on settings equal to or higher than consoles run them[/footnote] run any game for about $200au (that's like, I dunno, 80 pounds?), fuck, I could build a brand new[footnote]A sensible new computer is running last gen tech, which is still about 3 generations ahead of current consoles, but isn't "cutting edge"[/footnote] rig for under $600au (I'm not motivated to prove it right now, as I've done so countless times on this forum already,
this site has pretty standard AU prices). If you don't know how to assemble a computer, spend 10 minutes learning (I can say, with all seriousness, that it's easier than connecting a console to a wall mounted plasma/LCD tv), if you're pants on head retarded/don't have 10 minutes (10 minutes is probably closer to 2-3 hours if you have to learn from scratch), then you can pay $150au (at the absolute most, I mean if you're seriously getting scammed) and have someone assemble it for you (if you shop around, you can nearly always find a mass produced pre-build rig that won't actually cost anymore, in melbourne, the green guide has a lot of ads for these products, as long as you stay away from apple, dell, HP etc it isn't expensive).
You're aware that PCs are more than capable of running on full HD tvs (at full 1080p), and the notion that PC games are more likely to damage a 42" TFT LCD screen than a console is straight up, completely wrong. I have no idea where you got such an idea, but you only get image burn on plasma screens[footnote]this is caused by any still image, menu screens or HUDs on console games cause this just as readily as desktop wallpapers[/footnote] (which are all round terrible for gaming, and not even all that common tbh).
