It blows my mind that there is such an epidemic of "depression" out there. Now, I'm a bit of an optimist myself, but there's only one thing I have to say.

To all those suffering from depression:

There are people all over Africa suffering from far more than just being depressed. Starvation, disease, homelessness, wild animals, drought, civil wars, marauders, pirates, warlords, genocide, slavery and more.

Your personal problems really aren't that bad, now are they?
Enough with this!
If i say "Shit , my mom broke my guitar!"
You will say "Dude! Children in Africa are starving"
I wish someone will invent a machine that lets me pull my hand out into the screen , take it out on yours and slap your fucking face.
To the subject:
I stopped taking these pills when i realized that i do not have depression , and me not being affected by the godamn branwashing of my country means the goverment will quickly blame me for having hardcore super major critical - bla bla bla Depression.
You might have depression , and if you do , good luck mate , but i never believed in pills that are meant to help you emotionally.
PS: Sorry for the swearing , but what he said is ridiculous.

You have to admit that was one of the more annoying "***** moves" she could have taken. I suggest NOT going with the "send it to her family" option, seems like a more evolved version of the childhood fibs everyone used to make.

To be honest any form of anti-depressant drugs never have really worked. They are said to "reduce symptoms" of depression and it doesn't even do that very well either. So little is understood about the human brain that it's impossible to test if the person really needs it or not. It's more of a palcebo effect where it only works well if you believe it does.

How long have you been on the meds?
I wish you all the best with everything my good sir and please, for the love of whatever shit-faced God is out there, don't kill yourself. Living is the real challenge, all you can really do is try and find more interesting things.

Only take meds on rare occasions because I don't need them much. However, I have had a grudge against them ever since they killed my father(I'll avenge you, dad!).

And it's good to hear she got what was coming to her.

Or!.. You could post her name number name and email, and let the online community do it for you... The payback that is.. Not the charges.

[edit:] I just realised something... Put the video online! Bet she wont be expecting THAT! Maybe even post the story along side the vid for all to see.

I took liquid Prozac for 2 or 3 years and Prozac in pill form for around 1 year before I finally got off the shit. It almost never helped, just made shit worse. During the time I took it, I tried to kill myself 3 times, one trying to overdose on the anti-depressent itself which only made me loopy as fuck.

I got tired of feeling the way I did and just quit cold turkey, which probably isn't the best way to get off of something. A week later I was feeling so much better. I could actually smile without faking it and could spend more time with my friends. After I quit Prozac, I quit my Aterol because it was a bullshit prescription from a "therapist" who only cared about money, not the patient. He didn't even ask how I was feeling. Just asked if I was ok on meds and set me on my way. =\

Also Jack, I know the feeling of getting a sex video from your ex. One of mine did the exact same thing to me and gloated about it for little while...

Until I, just like the others said to do, showed the video to her parents. Never heard from her again and got my revenge. :p

Wow, what an utter Harridan. Glad to hear she got what she deserved- people who smugly hand ammunition into the hands of the object of their hate Deserve to have it bite them in the posterior.
OT: I've never really believed in anti-depressants, but on the other hand I've never really been that depressed as to require a constant prescription. So I usually just take the natural method of doing a ton of excersize (usually walking, or even running if I feel adventurous), until I'm drowning in endorphins.
In short, one wholly agrees, drugs are but a stopgap, not a solution. Mind over matter, and all that.

Go buy something expensive. It makes me feel good. I don't have any money now but I feel great.

I wish I had gotten to this thread earlier. Oh well, glad to know you're feeling better, Jack.

Oh, and I might as well say that thank God I dodged the bullet when it came to antidepressants. My old psychiatrist was going to prescribe them to me and I immediately shut her down.

I actually did take antidepressants for quite a while and honestly, they never worked. One day, I DID find one that worked. I took it. Everything was good. The drug was expensive, but I was happy, so what?

Then the horrible side effects.

Look up brain zaps and see if you ever had anything similar to that. When you withdraw from the meds it feels like a shock of electricity is going up your spine into the back of your skull. It was awful.

Not to mention a lot of other unpleasant side effects that come from that crap.

To make a long story short. I think they do more harm than good. It's not worth it most of the time.

I will not take that kind of medicine.

I dislike paracetamol, let alone that kind of medicine.

Anti-depressant drugs don't always work with people. Like some others on this thread have said, counseling/therapy is probably the best option.

I literally yelled out "POWNED!" so loud that my dad woke up.

[sup]okay, maybe not really, but you get the idea[/sup]

It's a great thing you had the balls to do this, and even better that it worked out for you. That could have worked out in a number of ways, but I'm glad that it worked out for you.

I admit I /facepalmed at this thread. Not one of us has the knowledge or qualifications to tell anyone what they should or should not do with regard to prescribed medications and starting off by saying Prozac is no good is irresponsible.

I was diagnosed some 14-15 years ago and have a hell of a lot of experience on the matter. I know that different medications (and even as simple as switching between generic and labelled) can affect different people different ways. Sometimes it takes time and effort to find something of the right brand/composition/dose that will help. I know that unless under medical instruction you should not just stop. That unless under medical instruction you should not interfere with your dosage. Fucking around with your brain chemistry without proper supervision is a very bad thing.

Does Prozac work? For many people, yes it does. It may not be suitable for everyone but forums aren't the place to advise or decide.

Honestly I am pretty pissed at this thread.

The only ONLY input that I would ever even dare to have on someone's medication is those under the age of 18 who have been prescribed Paxil (also called Seroxat), speak to your Doctor had have you meds re-tuned to something suited and tested for those under 18.

And for the poster who made a remark about Africa. Yes, thanks, I know there are people "worse off than me". Go on, go the whole hog, display your ignorance of mental health and tell me to "cheer up".

Yes depression in cases is due to mental disorders (i.e bipolar), but on the whole depression is bullshit. Everyone feels seriously down at some point in their lives, i've been there and thought about the whole dying thing but did i take drugs or think i was medically depressed NO, because there is no such thing.

The solution to being 'depressed' is to be around good people, i've helped myself and others by showing them that taking prozac and other psycho meds don't help they just make it worse. They make you believe your depression is something genetic or biological when really it is self-indulgence on the depressives part. Keep busy, remove all that upsets you from your life and hang out with friends and people you enjoy to be with, that is the REAL solution.

You may think i'm being an arsehole but the fact is people who are depressed don't need sympathy it keeps them in that state, it reinforces the depression, they need to be told straight that they are being stupid and need to get on with their lives. The dude who mentioned Africa is right, there are worse things stop allowing yourself to be so selfindulgent and pick yourself up and enjoy the rest of your life.

Ask yourself will whatever is upsetting you now matter in a years time?

Concerning my pills, I've asked my Psychiatrist if I can come off them. I guess that 20mg a day is alot. In fact, after doing some research, that's a high dose, even for adult standards, and I'm 16! Coming off these things will take time but I hope you all know something.
Yes, that is a helluvah lot. You should get off them, or at least ween off to a lower dosage, immediately. I only take 5mg of my medication which is hardly anything but it does affect me at certain points.

The way I'm weening off is taking my medication once every other day for a week, then once every two days, and finally to twice a week. It's a slow process but a person of your age should not be on that kind of dosage unless the depression is extremely severe. Like, trying to kill yourself every day severe.

Of course, take what I say with a couple grains of salt since I'm not a psychiatrist. But it's good that you asked your psychiatrist if you could ween off the meds. Don't just stop taking them when you feel like it, going cold turkey is probably one of the worst options you could do.
