No, Star Wars is this generations Star Wars.CoD is the thing that put most shooters on track. Kinda like how all MMOs want to be like WoW and all sandbox games want to be like GTA games. Shooters want to be like CoD, Halo and or Bioshock, "fun".(FPS RPGs are different, not sure who they want to be like.)
Wrong.

This already happend before, waaaaay back when Doom came out and it was a big succes, other devs started to make the same kind of games and tried to be better, that's the way it goes with all genres.

Also, not all MMO's try to be like WoW. As you might not know Guild Wars released a few months after WoW and was quite different but still popular, heck, even today theres still alot of people playing it.

I guess that makes Modern Warfare 2 equal to the Star Wars prequels then.

Shiny, spiffy, new, but still garbage.

*puts head in hands* What the hell?
CoD is not as revolutionary as Star Wars was.
CoD is not as popular as Star Wars was.
CoD does not change a genre as Star Wars did.

if anything, Farmville and crappy singers are this generation's Star Wars.

The cartoon... Half the time at work on of the TV's is on Cartoon Network. :/
They're still rerunning that show? Or were you talking about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Clone_Wars_(2008_TV_series) (This is a perfect example of why when making a series set almost at the same time as another, you don't just change the title by adding "The" to it. Confusion is inevitable)
I think it is that one. Some cheesy thing between Episode 2 and 3 with some female alien type thing that I don't remember in any of the movies...
That would most likely be it. The other one was the Samurai Jack styled one with very little dialouge that used images to tell the story more than words.

And in relating this dialouge back to the orginal topic: Activision also has a point again. These two series could be related to Modern Warfare (though that's still a bit generous). The first was strangely unique for the franchise and was widely liked by many people, even those that weren't really that into the main franchise. It went through a variety of different places and did things you didn't expect. It happened to be a very short experience though and ended in a very awkward way.

The sequel completely missed the point and tried to keep the style similar but it felt very inferior. Sure it had bigger events, but it just didn't have the same feeling. It also thought that killing characters was great but over used it (at least according to TvTropes: Anyone not seen in the future in this series can die). At points it was absolutely amazing but too much of it wasn't. The beginning of it also had a large division between people (movie shouldn't have been in theaters/gunning down innocents was wrong). Taking a step back made you realize that you would have dropped your jaw if this was released some time ago. Finally, at this point, we all know that what comes next is a break up of what seemed to be a solid group (Infinity Ward/Jedi).

Hahahahaha... Call of Duty is no where near Star Wars... Star Wars is a classic still relevant 40 years later. Ask any kid who Darth Vader is and they will know. In 40 years no one will remeber CoD.
Or...

CALL OF DUTY: The King's Shilling

Indeed it is.

It is a franchise which after some very solid early entries (right up to and including CoD4, which unfortunately also introduced the dominating "codename Ewok" multiplayer system) is now throwing away everything which made it great and successful in the first place in a desperate attempt to mine the demands of "modern times" (be they only present in the developers' own heads or not), as well as getting rid of anyone in (quality) control of the old franchise.

I'm surprised and pleased they had the insight to pick that up. Or am I missing something here?

Call of Duty is this generation's Matrix, starting off amazing and getting progressively shittier with every instalment...

Except Star Wars had a good story, likeable characters, and was overall a great series. Call of Duty lacks all those elements. Hell, even the star wars games have been better than CoD, so comparing it to the entire franchise is just plain idiotic.

uhhh... REALLY? Jesus those guys at Activision must think they've got some massive cocks. How do you even think of the idea to compare your game franchise to Star Wars? Just shut up.

Is this the same guy who said Activision has an image problem?

This is the same Activision that fucks around and fires their best talent without paying them their dues?

The same Activision that is obsessed with monetisation and wilfully ignores their fans while undermining clans and user control?

COD4 was very good... but WAW was short but decent and MW2 was just ridiculous, especially the multiplayer situation.

Oh yeah... it IS like star war: started off good (COD2 + COD4) then ruined by new shit iterations (COD:WW, MW2, BO)

Wait I think he's right... You have an original 3 which were considered the best of the series, then the creators tried to capitalize on it further and make 4 more (this is including the animated movie which represents Black ops). The first of the four was decent (MW1/Phantom Menace), but it went down hill from there. For the first time, I think I can almost agree with activision.

Edit: Jesus, Activision is getting cocky. Yes, for fuck sake we get it, MW2 was successful. For god's sake will you just shut up about it? Was Bungie constantly rubbing it in our faces that Halo 3 was wildly successful? No! Just shut up and go back to piecing together piles of moneymaking shit.

Next CoD better be CoD: SAW (Spanish American War) so they can follow it up with a glitchy as hell SAW2. I plan on having marathon pro, cold blooded pro, commando pro so i can melee kill with my tactical bayonet. /end joke

On to the OP.
Star Wars is beyond legendary in its cultural impact for people of all ages and changed sci fi forever.
Sorry but if anything Doom is the Star Wars of shooters. Activision please just stop with the shenanigans, its embarrassing to the entire video game community.

IF any game is remotely close to doing for the genre what Star Wars did, it's Mass Effect.

I say IF because even Mass Effect can't compare to Star Wars, but if you had to pick a game, it wouldn't be Call of Duty.

WAHAHAHA!!!
My my, we ARE putting on airs, aren't we? I hate this kind of thing because it shoves the so-called "superiority" in gamers' faces until they're forced to believe it. I was playing TF2 one night and someone got on and complained that the Sniper could only "hardscope". After a bit of confused banter and the guy ragequitting, we came to the conclusion that he was complaining that the scope didn't work like CoD's. Pardon me, mister twitchy hooligan, but some of us like to actually PICK OUR SHOTS.
