Forgive me if somone has already mentioned this but Activision currently owns blizzard (or more accurately Activision-Blizzard) so they are both the same dick, not seperate dicks.
And the CEO of Activision Blizzard has said openly amongst shareholders and investors that "micro transactions are the future" - i.e. get people to pay for services once they have actually bought the game.

This is yet another move in this direction. It makes sense because getting people who are already invested in the game to pay more for content that costs very little compared to the game itself to develop will make them more money for minimal investment of resources, but it really is a bit of a jerk move.
Then again Xbox live DLC isnt free, so why not charge PC users for the same stuff? profit is all that matters, pump money into marketing generic shooter 9000, sell it for above excpeted market price, then make the players pay through the nose for the services they expected to be free and we'll all me millionares, the player's wont resent us at all. (and don't even mention removing standard-issue PC features, like dedicated servers, or customisable options)
