Pay for online FPS on PC? well fuck you then, I'm glad I've never purchased any of their games. You have already pissed off the PC cumminity enough you dolts, don't push your luck. it's unfortunate though that if such a thing came into play, many would just sit there and take it despite whining about it beforehand. I pay internet bills, and hell if I'm going to pay more money to play.

Why does Activison think this is a good idea? Are they retarded?

If the multiplayer could host massive 100 on 100 deathmatches with vehicles, a massive variety of weapons, character customization, without alot of lag, all on a dedicated server. Then MAYBE I'd pay for it.

Not really. If a large number of people would be willing to pay for this service, then the game is worth it. I don't see how that is sad.
No, that's where you are wrong. It just means that a large amount of people are idiots.

I doubt that all of these people are idiots just because they are willing to pay for a service so they can play a game they like.

Of course all of this is assuming there are a large number of people that would be willing to pay for this service.

Good question.

I'd like to know who's asking to pay for anything?
Bill Gates perhaps?
Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant who, as a consumer, would want to pay for something (or anything really?)
They would pay for food, which is needed to survive. Jk, but I'd say people that REALLY like the multiplayer more than their own family would pay Activision for it.

"People would like to have a feature which itself costs money. People would like to have something on PCs which Console users already pay for. And we're going to ask for money".

Yep, I'm pretty okay with saying "pony up the dough for dedicated servers".

Yep.... total horseshit.... I can swallow $5 a month to play EVERY GAME I BUY online... but I could never swallow the WoW fee, and I would never pony up for something like this. I also avoid most micro-transactions and DLC.

Just give me the core game that I paid for and stay out of my wallet. I just get the feeling that CoDiots will do it anyhow.
See, that's the thing, why do you assume that playing EVERY GAME YOU BUY online is somehow part of the "core" of that game? Maybe it's because I'm not part of the PC master race, but I don't assume that I'll be able to play a game online without giving some more money. That $5 you pay, I presume, is just for your internet access, which means that the company doesn't get anything for providing this service to you.

When did unlimited online play become part of the "core" of games?

You want me to pay for what I'm doing since 2005? Fuck you Activision.
You want me to pay for something that costs you money, and which I've grown to expect other people to give me for free? How dare you, grocery stores, charge me for food? I used to get it for free from my mother. This calls for an all-out boycott.

Yeah, dedicated servers run by the community cost Activision so much money.

Forgive me if somone has already mentioned this but Activision currently owns blizzard (or more accurately Activision-Blizzard) so they are both the same dick, not seperate dicks.

And the CEO of Activision Blizzard has said openly amongst shareholders and investors that "micro transactions are the future" - i.e. get people to pay for services once they have actually bought the game.

[rant]

This is yet another move in this direction. It makes sense because getting people who are already invested in the game to pay more for content that costs very little compared to the game itself to develop will make them more money for minimal investment of resources, but it really is a bit of a jerk move.

Then again Xbox live DLC isnt free, so why not charge PC users for the same stuff? profit is all that matters, pump money into marketing generic shooter 9000, sell it for above excpeted market price, then make the players pay through the nose for the services they expected to be free and we'll all me millionares, the player's wont resent us at all. (and don't even mention removing standard-issue PC features, like dedicated servers, or customisable options)

We need to start emailing the shit out of their offices letting them know what we think.
I guess that will make them exercise their fingers by clicking the delete button. You think they care? Welcome to capitalism.
You know why they don't care? They know for all the hatemail they might get, they're still going to sell a crapload, and a lot of the complainers will buy it anyway.

I'm reminded of the Star Wars prequels. Everyone I know thought it was a bad idea. They ripped on Episode 1, but they went and saw it. Then they ripped Lucas for ruining things, complained that they wasted 7 bucks, etc. And then they repeated the cycle for episode 2 and (to an extent) episode 3.

I really can see people raising the "boycott" flag, sounding the trumpets, and marching figuratively in protest. Then going ahead and paying for online and other features. I also think paying to play online is going to spread beyond just Microsoft's Gold Membership. I hope I'm wrong.

When they make CoD a persistent world is the day I'll pay for multiplayer. Until then I give them a sound "lol no".
Check out Dust 514. That will be a pay to play MMOFPS in the vein of Planetside, but by the makers of Eve Online. Looks to be awesome.
It's gonna actually effect EVE Online aswell, with players being hired buy EVE players, 2 of who I know.

Activision has my full permission to crawl up its own arse and die.

Vivendi owns Blizzard, not Activision. http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/press/pressreleases.html?080710

They own 54% of the stock.

Most likely males, between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five. They seem to be the target-audience for these kinds of games...

Due to the massive success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Activision probably thinks that they can do almost anything and still have people buy thier games. And they're probably correct.
Indeed, and I'd just like to take this moment to say, I fucking called it!
Yahtzee too. Although, he was wrong about the company...

[small]... I also called it.[/small]
