I'm not going to fault you too much for this assumption since everyone falls into it, but honestly, the concept of being prepared for what life throws at you is impossible. It's unpredictable. I think this is what really separates being an adult from, well, not. When you finally realize how little you know of the world, and thus begin to value the input of others on everything you DON'T know.

But sometimes, honestly, it's tough to not look down on others because they seem to know less than you.

I know it's slightly off the topic at hand, but really you can't judge this until you've been to my school. They are, for the most part, idiots who don't care how their lives end up. There are of course others who are of equal or greater intelligence than me (I never said there weren't).
And what makes you think kids at your school are so different than the ones anywhere else? Is this also because they are merely born stupid or is it actually due to all of the conditions surrounding how they grow up and how the society is formed?

The truth you will fail to acknowledge until you've grown out of your adolescent need to feel special (and this isn't an insult, it's what every teenager goes through) is that everyone begins as a blank slate. I personally feel that some traits are built into us from the get go (being artistically inclined or logically inclined as an example), but some people will have backgrounds where they are encouraged to think while others will have backgrounds that favor ignorance.

What you have in the end is people that can be archetyped, but on the whole think differently. Because of how my father was raised and how he raised my siblings and me, we are very analytical people. However, there's also a lot of pride that clouds us to a lot of outside ideas and opinions. So while we know how to think about something thoroughly and intelligently, we are also very stubborn and we can easily be wrong.

There are other people that learn a lot of facts, but they aren't capable of making use of those facts in a useful manner. Even so, they know a lot.

Most people, however, are somewhere in between. A lot of assumptions become made out of what facts they know.

However, there is nothing that makes you superior or more mature than your other classmates. The only difference is you think differently. Again, a fresh coat of paint. Sure, you'll turn out to be a different adult, but you aren't more intelligent or more mature than other adults out there. Your complete lack of experience in life shines simply by making that statement.

Only children believe you can be better than someone else in any way.

Yes, as far as the legal definition is concerned there are tons of adult escapists, they used to outnumber the teens at one point! But the new content on the website has attracted lots of younger and more people (including myself ^.^) making the forums a different place. But yes, there are tons around, you just have to look. You'll find loads in the IRC It should be noted that the people who keep the website running are all staff aswell!

Heh... how ironic, the person who got suspended for threatening to rip someone's intestines out for being immature and telling you to stop interrupting class for those that actually want to learn. That's not funny... that's fucking hilarious.
OT: Most people here are in their teens, or, act like they should be in their teens.
You know what.....FUCK ALL OF THIS.
What? I just found it hilarious.
I've been constantly flamed for that post!
Now you listen, in the thread you are refering to that guy was constantly flaming me like what's happening to me in this thread which is why I got angry and put that edit there.
And the reason I gave the teacher shit was because I was pissed off at something that happened earlier thar morning!
So you make someone else miserable for something that happened to you? And you WONDER why you get flamed?
I think perhaps before you judge people, you should try to learn as much of the situation as you possibly can, how can you possibly condone needlessly insulting someone else, when you are going only a few lines of text! It's not particularly nice or constructive, anyway, people make mistakes they do things they don't mean to berating people for them isn't very helpful. You could at least explain why doing what she did was bad in the first place (in your opinion). Are you going to tell me that you have never taken your anger out on anyone else? Also, I reccomend using bold instead of CAPITALS, it looks better. Oh and next time I encourage you to think about what you are posting, before posting it.
Not after.

Adult here, I have 2 cars, my own flat and a job. Mature enough?
Yes, because material objects are a direct indication of how mature you are.
But owning two cars means double the insurance plus the initial cost of both cars and keeping a job long enough to continue paying for those material objects' protection would show of a small amount of maturity.
..But that's just me.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *snort* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Oh boy, that's a good one.

OT: Yeah there's a few of us "grown up" gamers around here.
Ah, jesus....
Listen to me, I am getting fed up of being bloody flamed for that bloody post.
I do think that some of the teenagers on here are far more mature then other people my age I've talked to and if you think that's funny or something to laugh at then it's you who is immature!
Settle down. I wasn't intending to flame.
Then what was it you intended to do? Point out that what I think is stupid by just laughing at it?
Noooooooo, that would be flaming, now wouldn't it? And I just said that wasn't my intention.
I only meant to indicate that I didn't agree, I merely was trying to do it in a semi-humorus manner. Well evidently that failed miserably.

Well no I'm not an adult. But seeing the people here on the escapist and just how mature most users are when compared to various other forum sites I feel like I don't have to be in order to join a discussion.

Technically an adult, live away from home and all that splonglewongle, but I'm a university student. Does that count?
I also have little patience for children under the age of 10 or 11 - with the odd exception, of course - if that helps.

I'm not an adult by age. But considering I'm about to be going to a tech college, working part time, paying rent, and having a fair amount of responsibility then in about three weeks I'll sure as hell be an adult. I'm gonna have a lot of shit on my plate.

I'm 15 years old, i6 in two weeks btw.

Ok now you're making asumptions.
You can always prepare for life, as you said it's unpredictable so you have to be flexable constantly.

I don't look down on those people because they seem to know less, I look down on them because they just cause trouble.

[HEADING=2]ATTENTION "ADULTS"[/HEADING]

Do I have your attention? Good.

Do you lot realise how many of you "adults" have flamed/laughed at Demented Teddy for claiming that we teenagers on here are maturer than the average teenager?
Do you think we'd still be here if we weren't? No, we'd be banned with the trolls and other idiots.

You mightn't have noticed, but when you read someone's post on these forums, you can't tell whether they are a teenager or an adult. And if we aren't mature, what does that say about the adults? You lot must be as immature as you claim WE are.

And believe me, you're showing it.
Thankyou for stating that more eloquently than I could currently manage. You deserve a medal for this. Even if I have to draw it and send a picture.

It's funny actually. When I was say, 13, I used to look at people who were 17 (my current age) and go "Wow, they're really old and mature." Now I look at people who are 17 and go "Fucking hell we're young." or more specifically, "Fucking hell, I'm young." I've done it with all my ages up to now, and I strongly suspect that my realisation that I'm middle aged will amount to "I'm exactly as old as I thought I would be at this age."

Old age would be when I say "I'm so much older than I thought I would be."

The irony of this is that people tend to treat me as though I'm about 5 years older than my birth certificate and all subsequent paperwork says. At Escapism for example the organisers from Australian Gamer were surprised that I was in the under age, can't attend bar category. By that point I was one of only two.

So no, I'm not one of the adult Escapists. I'm still in high school, still unemployed, still living at home. Just a kid and probably below the mean age for the site too.
