At OP: So theres no tactic that can be deployed with all/most guns to defeat it?
The problems are the range and spread:

Basically when using these guns you can aim anywhere in the general direction of someone up to 30 yards away, pull the trigger and get a one hit kill. You don't even have to centre them in your crosshairs.

If they nerfed it so that it only made one hit kills within a smaller distance it would be a lot more balanced, like the other shotties.

For a weapon designated as a 'side arm', dual 1887's are a little too overpowered (that's putting it modestly). Just about anyone with a so-so ability in aiming can dominate at short and mid ranges with these weapons, even outclassing the majority of the primary weapon line-up.

.
This is exactly right, well said.

This so called 'secondary' weapon completely overpowers a lot of the primary weapons at close to medium distance.

It even feels overpowered on Wasteland.

Yes, but do people use them in MODERN WARFARE (dun dun dunn title drop) ? And can you realistically double-wield them without breaking your arms? Can you reload such things in a split-second (while double-wielding, ofc)? That is my point.
actually you could probably reload them that fast irl after some practise. (by doing the spinning thing, altho i don't think it would be to kind on the guns..) fiering one onearmed though would probably strain your arms, but it should be doable.

fully reloading the 7 bullets are also doable when you hold 2, they're fairly light so you could just stick one of them under your elbow and chuck in the bullets. (i got 2 winchester rifles so i can confirm it, the rifles are way heavier and longer than the 1887 tho.. : p)

anyways they are abit overpowered, atleast the range. still alot of people forget how effective shotguns are in close range combat, but yeah they should nerf the range a slight bit on the 1887. I usualy don't have problems with other people using it though, i mean you should consider shotguns as your sidearm when your running around corners and such anyways, since shotguns are awesome shortrange compared to pulling out a machinegun. and as earlier mentioned, just pull a copycat if you get owned to much.

Akimbo anything is completely impossible anyway. No matter what John Woo says, it is impossible to wield two firearms and actually hit anything. And 2 shotguns would blow your arm off.

I don't play the game, I just had to make that point.

EDIT: The main problems I have with it is that MW2 makes both a half-hearted claim to realism, whereas doing that in real life is completely impossible, even for a trained soldier.
I mean Arnie could only do one, and that was a special version that didn't even fire at full power, and he says that when he did it, it caused him incredible pain.
And secondly, it makes a claim to being 'modern' and no army, even Guerrilla armies unless they're severely strapped for weapons, use that 120 year old gun.
its not 'impossible' to hit something with 2 firearms, heck if it is then im awesome cause ive done it. and your arm would not blow of if you used 2 shotguns its just that you must angle it perfectly, but your accuracy would be extremely off.

they don't seem to overpowered to me, but I guess it doesn't make much difference to me as the game keeps matching me with Americans so i pretty much always lose at close range combat
just out of curiosity why would someone's nationality make them better at killing you at close range?

It's ridiculoously over powered. Especially when the AA-12 (read fully automatic medium range mini grenade laungher pretending it's a shotgun) is seemingly a popgun compared to them.

I don't mind the shotguns, don't use them but my attitude is that you have to get ridiculously close to the enemy before getting a shot off and thats a tactic I hate.

I've not yet played the multiplayer as my university network is doing it's damnedest to stop me from connecting to IW Net, but dual 1887's sounds entirely ridiculous. How would you work the levers on both guns at once for starters?!

More annoying to me at the moment is the reload animation. You load the cartridges into the top hole, which is the barrel. This is wrong, they should go into the bottom hole, which is the magazine tube. Grr.

/gun nerd mode.

Don't know about the old shotguns, but I feel pretty badass whenever I'm going akimbo sawed-offs.

I think that they are unrealistic and probably overpowered. I don't mind the models, yeah it's annoying to be killed by them but when I get the models i'm going to use them. Plus you don't get them for very long if you're prestiging. I don't mind the rangers either because of their very short range.

This should be a post in some thread on "favourite weapons" raher than a threat just for that.

And Akimbo 1887 shotguns are UNDERPOWERED in that they would be impossible to aim and far too slow to fire.

Better off with a nice submachine gun like the MP5.

I think they should at least make the crosshair the correct size, when I see killcams the cross hair is a good few inches wide, but the shots always go dead centre.
I think shotguns are dodgy in all FPS's.

I like it on the pistols, though, because they're so weak.
My M9 would like to have a word with you, plus I hate not being able to use my iron-sights.

But yes, I hate them, I hate them with a passion. The gun already has an amazing range for a shotgun, and you can wield two of them? Screwing up the balance much? I must say though, it's incredibly satisfying to blow them up with a claymore, since akimbo-1887's, or akimbo-Rangers for that matter, usually just charge in without looking around the corner. KaBOOM!

About dual wielding itself:
Yes it's nonsense to dual wield in real life, but please, this is a game. If I would want to bother myself with boring real life stuff, I would, you know, stay in real life.

Games are a good way to do the awesome stuff that cannot be done in real life, that includes dual wielding 2 Uzi's and rushing in, guns blazing and laughing like a maniac. (Disclaimer: even though that tactic usually gets you killed pretty quickly, not in the case of 1887's though...)

By doing the Arnie style flip.

How more unrealistic could you get?
Oh ye Gods!

That's truly awful. A man of Arnie's substantial build could manage it, but I'm not sure about a soldier, I'm guessing they weigh a fair bit, especially when loaded, and especially when you're holding 1 in each hand.

And I wouldn't be surprised if it fucks the gun up as well. They're not designed to be spun around on a fairly thin metal bar after every shot is fired. Not that that matters in the game of course, but it still bugs me :p

A list of things d-bags who have very little skill do:

*Dual Shotguns - as you said.

*Grenade Launcher - Its called the "Noob Tube" for a reason.

*Javelin - In case you havent seen this in action yet then let me elaborate, people have realised that if you walk into a room full of enemies with the Javelin and fire it hits the roof and everyone dies... yourself included but that doesnt really seem to matter to them.

*Knife - Yes the knife, the magical weapon that gives you the ability to teleport to your enemy! Just sprint around the map clicking the right stick in any time you see someone and they die straight away.

I dont use any of these except the knife (but only when you are behind someone or you do that thing when you and the other guy run into each other and one of you does the stupid thing and starts shooting), and yes... it does get annoying.
