They look different indeed. JRPG gameplay is still horrible and the look and feel of anime is even more atrocious.
same could be said with FPS games, I'm sick of seeing brown and gunmetal gray in everything.
That's another thing, I don't understand how a genre like JRPG or indeed the whole anime 'style' can be put on the spotlight while I'd be hard pressed to point out clear distinctions between many of the sports and first person shooter games that come out.

implying all JRPGs have the same gameplay
You forget one:

Implying my word is truth.
The thing is though, you believe it so it a form of truth. It is truthfully what you believe.
Nah. Just because I find anime the most ugly form of animation, JRPG boring as hell and Japanese pop culture retarded doesn't make it so. That I voice these opinions for the sake of argument (and out of annoyance with those who consider Japan to be the best thing since cement) does not make them absolute truth. Some people can differentiate between their own opinion and the absence of absolute truths.

As for Mr. Pixel's opinion about FPS being generic and ugly, I completely concur

The problem with your statement is that your trying to cover an ocean with a tarp you bought at The Home Depot, it just doesn't cover everything.

You make it sound like only a specialized expert can have an opinion.

I've not heard every peice of Jazz music on the planet, but I think I'm more than entitled to say I'm not that keen on it.

Why do you think everything from X genre is the same/sucks? Because you've only seen 1-10% of X genre and just determined that everything from that genre sucks from those few games.

It's not just that, how MUCH of said ocean would a tarp realistically cover? If he were to offer up some animes he's actually viewed then perhaps his thoughts would hold a bit more credibility. Secondly, if he would have said that a certain art, animation, or gameplay style didn't appeal to him instead of trying to cover a whole genre with one statement then maybe he'd have a more substantial opinion.

Wow, this thread was over before it even began.

Of course all JRPGs don't look the same, and people who say they do are either blind or stupid. Did you really have to make a thread in order to respond to them? Newsflash:

1. BLIND people won't be able to read it.
2. STUPID people will simply remain stupid.
You can fix ignorance. You cant fix stupid.

Ahhh...look at their hair. If it looks like a braid of their hair could be used as a skewer, it's the same old JRPG crap.

I find it funny how people say JRPGs are the same while at the same time WRPGs are still using the same Tolkien-ish fantasy setting or sci-fi. Dragon Age is the new RPG to play but not only is it medieval fantasy but it has wizards, elves dwarfs like we haven't seen those done to death before.

I reckon the looks of the characters are the same. The retarded hair-do's, the gigantic overcompensating weapons, but then, thats just from the ones I've seen. Whats the top one? That doesn't look to bad.

But by saying that you might just as well write "All FPS's feel the same."

Because if we look at the FPS genre like we look at the JRPG genre. They do look/feel the same.
This.
Yes, a lot of JRPGs are very similar, and I would know. I am a JRPG addict.
But a lot of other games of the same genre are very similar, too.
Can anyone really tell me any big difference between Halo 3 and Gears of War?
Space Marines are humanity's last hope in fighting off the evil space aliens of the month.
Or Racing games? Race cars.
Or Oblivion and LoZ? You're going to save your world from an ancient evil that has existed forever.
All of these are good games in their own right, but games from the same genre tend to be really similar to one another; hence the creation of genres.
There are, of course, parts of each game that help distinguish it from the rest (if it's a good game, that is).

Let me clear this up. At least for me, JRPGS don't all look the same, they all play the same or are minor offshoots of the same system. In short this [http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c65/Hellrayzor/resonanceoffate.jpg], looks like this [http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c65/Hellrayzor/disgaea-2-cursed-memories-200608210.jpg] looks like this [http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c65/Hellrayzor/e3-2008-tales-of-vesperia-screens-2.jpg].

Two problems with that OP.

1. For people who will listen, you're preaching to the choir.
2. For people who don't listen, they won't care.
You sir have summed up the entirety of internet discourse.

Wait, so to play JRPG's you need to be depressed AND emo!? FUCK! I think I need t stop playing them.

OT: Want a JRPG that really does have a NEW combat system?

Go buy it for your DS. It'll be the most worthwhile thing you could buy for it.
