"Yeah, I guess that makes sense. But, disguising ourselves as merchants would attract the attention of bandits or other assorted thieves. But, then again, what wouldn't?"

"Exactly. Any bandits would go for traders as easily as a for a king, and if anything, the knowledge that we are a military force might put some potential aggressors off. Any other reasons for a small force, general?"

According to our bios, none of us fit the corrupt image of the Jenje elite, but mine mentions corrupt advisers and Sentinel talks of an oafish king.

Can I just find out what we are supposed to think of each other?

Just as the final words exit Edwin's mouth, there are three dim knocks at the door. The two guards by the door look to the three leaders expectantly, as to whether or not they should permit entry.

Liatha

Once Mattiaus falls silent, the sound of distant screams can be heard. Then, all of a sudden, an enormous BANG sounds close by. The ground shakes, the chandelier overhead swinging, dust falling from the ceiling. An elderly man, his hair in disarray, can be seen out the large glass windows, screaming something about pirates from the top of his voice.

A new city-state should be joining soon. :) Also, Yorgmiester (who some of you may know already) will be acting alongside me as antagonizing forces against you guys. So, watch out!

Oh shit, Yorg is my opponent again!?!

Ronald raised his crossbow pistol as soon as he heard the knock, his eyes shifting between the two guards who were patiently awaiting direction. Ronald seemed to be intent on killing the first person to enter, however he would wait and see who was knocking. "I say let them in, if those outside pose any issue we can easily kill them. Yet again it is up to Augustus, your orders my king?"

Well, after I saw that you were the king, I changed it so that I was referring to the other advisers as corrupt. You could be referring to them too.

Hmm, that sounds workable. All good =D

"OH NO!" Cried Lady Tranus, gazing out of the window at the commotion "Sire, We are under attack! I think pirates are making a direct attack!" She quickly turned to General Mattiaus, and said, "Can you mobilize any troops?"

"I'll mobalize what I can from the temple guard, I have men in nerby garrisons who will know how to react to pirate attack" Turning to the King, "Milord, my place in on the battlefield, the captain of the royal guard will see to your protection" Turning Mattiaus pulled the cloak off from around his shoulder and threw it into a corner with the ceremonial sword. As he sprints out of the throne room he grabs his personal weapons.

I believe you have me confused with someone else, my name is Marcus :p

Marcus nodded at Ronald's decision, his hand going to the rapier at his side

"I agree with the General, my King. Let us see who is at the door"

Savan nodded to Mattiaus as he left the room. Summoning the captain of the royal guard, Savan gave quick instructions.

"Concern yourselves only with guarding the palace, admit any commoners who wish to take shelter here. However should Mattiaus require any men he has leave to take as many as he wishes. See to it that the men know this."

Savan turned back to the map. "If Jenje is behind this attack it would be to our advantage to move fast, before he can gather another fleet to strike us on the seas. Should any evidence that Jenje ordered this attack be found, we should enact your plan Lady." The din of cannon fire rang out again from the shores. "If we have any ships left that is."

Damien thinks of Jon as having the right ideas, and also wants to move away from corruption. He however, realizes that Jon will need support and protection.

Damien shrugged. "Again, back to the bandits idea. A small group of soldiers is sufficient to dissuade the common highwayman, and will deceive a more adept thief into thinking we have not as much money and therefore not as profitable to attack. It also means fewer mouths to feed and fewer supplies. needed."

"Alright, I'm sold. Since you are the Military General, I think we should go with your plan."

"I'm honoured mi'lord!"

Lady Tranus walked towards the window, looking at the chaos and despair in the town from a glass window, and sighed, "If only we could stop those bastards once and for all..."

Mattiaus climbed the steps of the habour wall. From his vantage point he could see a large pirate ship, sitting in the inner harbour. A huge explosion emited from its port side, in a burp of fire and smoke something shot out and hit high up in the city. A building shattered under the force of the hit, rubble raining down. He could also see about 30-40 pirates running through the lower streets, pillaging and raping as they went. Higher above he could see a line of his men advancing through the streets in a huge sweeping gesture to contain the pirates.

He turned to the handful of guards with him. "Send a runner to the commander of that guard movment" he gestured to the guards on the hill. "have them surround all the pirates, I want them crushed, but keep a couple alive if possible" A guard snapped a salute and ran off into the streets. Mattiaus turned to the remaining men. "It's up to us to secure that ship and it's technology, how many of you are good with a bow?" A hand or two went up. "Right get yourself a bow and we will take out as many as we can from afar, then when we will board the ship and secure it." The men nodded. "For the King men and for Liatha!" The men roared their approval.

Mattiaus turned and lead them into position.

"We have little hope of doing so through force Lady Tranus," Savan said as he approached her to look out the window. "Despite Mattiaus' exceptional courage we have neither the time nor resources to remove the pirates. All the more reason to go to Creta, a chance to meet Jenje. We shall see if there is a diplomatic solution to this problem, perhaps co-ordinate our efforts."

Savan felt chillingly distant as a cannon round obliterated one of the houses along the shore. "Tell me," he said to Tranus, "is this boy any different? Or can we assume he too will be profiting of the plunder these men are taking?" Savan finished with a hopeless gesture at the mayhem in the streets.

"The new monarch of Jenje is nothing but spoilt brat, intent on nothing but pillaging, looting, and harming whomever he dislikes. He thinks to much of himself, and will not consider offering us any kindness, transgressing us and honouring the legacy of stupidity only a man from Jenje could ever possess."

She sighed, "He continues this war on no basis of reason, but of a vendetta against us so brutal and vain it shall result in nothing but bloodshed... If I could at Creta, I would put him through torture only the maker could hope to parallel..."

Mattiaus stood at the top of the harbour wayside, him and three of the guards had bows in their hands, The other guards were in a several small row boats approaching the pirate ship. Drawing back Mattiaus shot the pirate lookout through the throat, his compound bow ensuring the arrow punched all the way through the mans throat and into the mast behind him. As his shot sailed through the air, the other archers brought down pirates across the ship. A shout went out, the pirates were alert to their presence. 4 pirates started to swing one of the canons around to face Mattiaus.

Seeing the mouth of the cannon facing them the guards faltered for a second, "keep firing, we need to keep them busy" said mattiaus loosing a shot into the belly of one of the cannon workers. the other fired, their shots missing. One of the pirates grinned at Mattiaus and waved before putting his lit striker to the cannon.

"Bastard" Mattiaus screamed as he threw himself to the floor. With a roar, a belch of flame and smoke the cannon spat the iron ball. The three guards were still standing as one was pulped by the cannon ball, the other two were blown aside by the kinetic force their bones snapped by the blow. Mattiaus looked up in a drizzle of blood as the warehouse behind him was demolished. Stones and timber rained down on him as he passed out from the concusive forces.

Jon nodded, "I see the logic. It shall be so. Let us prepare imediatley"

How much knowledge/control do I have of the pirates and their actions? And if I don't control them, would they still respect me? (Either if they met me on the seas, or if I tried to talk to them)
