In other news, "Media focuses on the most sensational part of any story to get attention, even when irrelevant of specious."

Op is right, Sky News (who adorn their article page with the charming image of a levelled gun barrel) are milking this one for all it's worth. Try not to get too worked up about it, because your enraged response is basically what these newsreel trolls live for.

*edit* I find it funny that you can enlarge the image of an unrelated firearm, to get a bigger, more impressive view of what Sky News' stock photo department deigns to be the focus of a child committing manslaughter.

As much as I think the media gives the video game industry to much burden and blame for this, I read this whole article and no one blamed the video game industry at all. The title simply stated what happened, if they were blaming a certain game, if would be littered all over the article.
I'm just saying the way I interpreted it, I apologise for voicing my opinion on the matter.

Also the site I got the link from normally shows a picture of policemen for crime related articles but for this one they decided to use a picture of a 360 controller, which appears kid of blamesome.
your apologizing for voicing your opinion? I didn't mean to ruin your day. Im just telling you that their is no solid blame being put on games here, Remember the Kid who killed himself cause of being grounded from Call of Duty, THAT story blamed video games to no end. I'm not sticking up for "the man", in fact i hate "the man" but I put blame where its due, and this article doesn't show me any reason to believe they are targeting the video game industry at all.

Wow, what a social commentary: US gun culture and parental neglect = disaster. But, this type of thing happens all the time anywhere any country, albiet in differing forms. The substitution of TV/Video games for good parenting. Cheap baby sitting.

Sad for the children and sad for society

Only saw 2 lines mentioning games there. It seems that was the circumstances, an argument, a loaded gun. Didn't mention splatter, quite a dry report.

America seriously needs better gun control.
no, they needed better gun control

if you store it in a gun cabinet, unless the kid had the code or a plasma cutter he cant get at them and if they would have stored the ammo in a separate place in another locker then the kid cold not get at either

I think you hit the nail on the head. You went hunting since you were 9...probably with your dad. What a concept, a dad spending time with a child, and actually parenting. Nice.

By sheer luck more than anything, I'm willing to bet.

Giving a 9 year old a gun = bad idea. On the other hand, I'm also willing to bet you didn't hunt alone at the age of 9, so, while it's still a stupid idea, the fact that you were supervised, makes it slightly less so.

exactly, if you raise your kids to respect firearms and when you are actually acting responsible you don't need to cower from guns. And all the laws in the world aren't going to stop a few idiots being a couple of jerkoffs over a videogame.

store the weapon in a gun locker
store the ammunition in a SEPARATE locker

just like what hunters safety recommends
then if you can shoot someone in that scenario I would shit my pants in a girls locker room.

dude, When I was growing up my family was broke and in one day for 25 cents (price of a shotgun shell) we could get enough deer to last us a long time.

Ever notice how people have blamed video games for killing and yet most normal people wouldn't have killed due to a game?

The article doesn't make that much of a deal about the game, so thats not what I'm gonna go on about. But man, is that some shitty parenting.

This. I think there's a reason for the stereotypes of Texan people or any "South Americans + guns" jokes at all. At least now.

Bad parenting is the reason, not whatever stupid game the kids were playing.

Indeed. I don't really see where everyone gets the idea that they're blaming games on anything. They're merely stating the supposed motive for the killing.

But you know somewhere down the line an ignorant minded tool will say,'where did he get the idea to shoot someone with a gun' and the answer will be games.

I just find it hard to believe that blame goes on video games for murders committed by children, yet no one looks at TV and movies, I mean look at some of the violent stuff they have on there. Not that I'm saying that any sort of media can be solely be blamed for the actions of an individual, I just don't like if there the remotest chance video games were involved in the scenario, video games are instantly bought to the limelight.

First, WHO KEEPS A LOADED SHOTGUN IN A HOUSE WITH SMALL CHILDREN?!

Second, it's not the video game's fault. These two were horsing around WITH A LOADED SHOTGUN, dear god who is this monumentally FUCKING RETARDED to keep a loaded shotgun in a house with a 9- and 11-year-old?!

This whole thing should be the fault of the retard parents buying a gun BEFORE buying a safe.

You buy the safe THEN you get the gun THEN you get a smaller safe for the ammunition

THEN you get the gun and lock it up THEN you get the ammo and lock it up

at my house we have our safes in a locked room so its a safe within a safe (now that I'm older and responsible I know the combination's of course)

and you don't need the government stepping all over your toes
