As much as I think the media gives the video game industry to much burden and blame for this, I read this whole article and no one blamed the video game industry at all. The title simply stated what happened, if they were blaming a certain game, if would be littered all over the article.
But you know somewhere down the line an ignorant minded tool will say,'where did he get the idea to shoot someone with a gun' and the answer will be games.

I just find it hard to believe that blame goes on video games for murders committed by children, yet no one looks at TV and movies, I mean look at some of the violent stuff they have on there. Not that I'm saying that any sort of media can be solely be blamed for the actions of an individual, I just don't like if there the remotest chance video games were involved in the scenario, video games are instantly bought to the limelight.
Well ok but you can't blast someone cause you speculate that maybe in there mind they blame the video game. thats stupid. Trust me I know Journalists if they thought it was the games fault that article would be PLAGUED with propaganda against the gaming industry.

You know what they say about people Who Assume things.

Gun laws don't need revising, They are there to stop the King of England from just marching in and telling you what to do.

First, WHO KEEPS A LOADED SHOTGUN IN A HOUSE WITH SMALL CHILDREN?!

Second, it's not the video game's fault. These two were horsing around WITH A LOADED SHOTGUN, dear god who is this monumentally FUCKING RETARDED to keep a loaded shotgun in a house with a 9- and 11-year-old?!
I agree,
if they had it secured in a locked gun safe (like 98% of the gun owning population)and locked the shells up separate from the firearm then they would have been fine.

That's why you guy the gun safe first and the gun second

Ummm... where did he get the shotgun? I would assume it's his dad's shotgun and since he has it loaded (or has ammo around the house) at all times, is it possible that the parents could have encouraged this violent behavior? FUCK YES! Also, what game was he playing? He's nine years old, I don't think he's playing anything that has that much killing in it.

I get the feeling that the father won't be prosecuted for being such a fucking irresponcible gun owner.
Yeah seriously, having a loaded shotgun in the house, and it doesn't have a safety lock on the trigger? What the fuck is his problem?

Southern USA... Where else would an 11 and a 9 year older get their hands on a loaded shotgun...

... I think we know who is REALLY to blame here, I hope.
Ive been hunting since I was 9 ad I never shot anyone... over a video game.
By sheer luck more than anything, I'm willing to bet.

Giving a 9 year old a gun = bad idea. On the other hand, I'm also willing to bet you didn't hunt alone at the age of 9, so, while it's still a stupid idea, the fact that you were supervised, makes it slightly less so.
dude, When I was growing up my family was broke and in one day for 25 cents (price of a shotgun shell) we could get enough deer to last us a long time.
How does that invalidate anything I said?

Thats why I'll never be going to america....guns being kept in houses....it being your rights to bear arms and all that malarcy....It's just crazy in my honest opinion.

This situation was inevitable.

This will continue to happen.

*sighs* at America.

And yet Americans persist on having firearms legal because an old piece of paper says so, these accidents serves them right for being stupid to be honest.
And I absolutely love people like you two who take the time to insult Americans with these articles.

Do you know how many more murders there would be without self-defense? Criminals will get guns, it doesn't matter what freaking law you put on it, it will always be possible. Just look at drugs, people still get them when there's laws on the illegalization of them. Oh, but what happens when the normal American citizen gets freaking robbed at gun-point, huh? Just let the robber take all their stuff? Well, that would happen a LOT more with stricter gun laws.

The people who are to blame are the crappy parents, not gun laws. Guns aren't the ones who force people to commit crimes, the person is. The criminal will always find a weapon to commit the crime.

I noticed that too. The article isn't saying "the game pushed them," but it seems people are trying to ***** about how the media makes video games the enemy! They didn't do that this time.

Its not the games fault. Its not the shotguns fault. Its the parents fault for not teaching their children that it is WRONG to shoot people.

Alot of you seem to be blaming the parents for not locking the gun away (which is a fair point) but the 9 year old kid who got the shotgun in the first place must've been damn stupid . I have a 9 year old brother who's not that thick, anyone with a brain would have realised that someone was going to get shot. It may seem harsh to blame the kid that died but he sounds like an idiot.

It didn't look like they were overtly blaming the game, although I doubt they'd have even mentioned what it was if it wasn't something that they were trying to attach some form of blame to.
Bad parenting for leaving the guns in reach of the kids and not raising the kids to know what is too much of a reaction.

Nevermind the videogame part, my question is:

Why would the parents keep a shotgun in reach of children...? Are they retarded?

I'm not concerned about the fact that video games drove these kids to fighting with a shotgun because that simply isn't the cause.

What saddens me though is that a nine year old boy died... for so little. A few rounds of a video game.

And they say guns are supposed to make us safe.
Guns are tools. They make use as safe as we use them-which is most often with great bouts of retardation.

It makes me glad I live in Canada where I can avoid all this gun stupidity. Although I live in Alberta of all places, unfortunately....

Oh, ofcourse, becuase it was the videogame that left a shotgun and shells lying on the cofee table. And it was the videogame that caused the birth of a little idiot that likes to wave guns around.
