Maybe you could somehow suck out their fat and use it to power our homes.
Ah here we go. Although your comment was funny enough that I'm just going to let it go.

But seriously stop eating. Maybe if grocery stores made a limit to how much people could buy things could change.
Also stores should be a sign that says obesity is not a handicap next to the little carts you can drive at like Walmart.
Haha yea that what they should do. If they can park there car in the parking lot that not Handicap and walk to the door. Then they should be fine walking though wal-mart.

Another thing is eat more smaller meals rather than fewer larger meals (speeds up metabolism).
That just sounds like "snack more"
There is some real science behind that. Rather than taking a 2000 calorie/day diet and eating it in 3 meals, you would split that same diet into 6 or more smaller meals. The total would still add up to ~2000 calories but they'd be more spread out. The idea is that every time you eat, your body realizes it has access to food and will fire up the metabolism. This period of increased metabolism lasts for a few hours. It can actually speed up weight loss if you triggered a 200 calorie burn of energy by eating a 100 calorie bag of healthy chips.

To all those people screaming "Fat people stop fucking eating"

Starving yourself is the least effective way to lose weight. Once you cease food intake for a substantial period of time, your body realizes that it is starving and shuts down your metabolism. It tries to conserve every single ounce of fat you have in an effort to burn as little as possible. So in addition to not losing weight, someone on a starvation diet has 0 energy and is miserable. What ends up happening is that person gives in, eats a big meal to satisfy their hunger and that meal goes all to fat because the body is still in starvation mode.

The Atkins diet is an interesting alternative. The idea is that carbohydrates are burned for energy, and are very efficient at doing so. Things like fats and proteins can technically be burned too, but are much less efficient. The idea of the Atkins diet is that you eat nothing but fats and proteins and NO carbs. Because you have regular food intake, your body doesn't go into starvation mode, but because you aren't giving it any carbs to burn, your body has no choice but to inefficiently burn fats and proteins to get the same level of energy. This means that once your body is done burning the food you just ate, it'll still need more and will start burning your fat at a rather fast rate.

6'2" here and I hover between 220lb. (100kg) and 260lb. (118kg) depending on how active I am at the moment. It's kind of funny, I've been like this since high school and was given quite a bit of crap for being 'fat' (as I was mostly 260lb then), yet in a chemistry test (we were looking at calories burned, etc...) our teacher had each of us weigh ourselves then see how fast we could run up a flight of stairs, in front of the entire class. :cough: Suffice it to say, this little 5'6" kid who weighed probably 120lb. wet (60kg) almost shouted "Whooaaaaa" when he saw me run up the stairs as I was faster then most of the 'skinny' people, though he managed to stiffle it down to an 'inside voice'.

Though I know you can't really see my torso at all (I'm no 'V' shape, more barrel like, damn italian/scottish genes) I was wearing a XL shirt in that pic and was around 235lb (107kg). People have actually come up to me before and said I have a problem. Er, yeah. Ok. Even when I'm at my skinniest I wear a size 36 pants. Now, couple that with anything shorter then a 34 length pantleg looks like I'm getting ready for a flood, yeah, not fun. Those measurements don't seem to exist here. I generally wear 2XL just so that I feel comfortable in my clothes. Hell, my shoulders are wide enough that I need XL if i don't want my shirts to look like muscle shirts.

I don't eat super healthy, but damnit I enjoy my food. I don't go out and get fast food every week, nor do I have snacks and dessert all the time, maybe once or twice a week, but when I eat, I eat. If anyone really has a problem with that, come here, I'll give ya a hug, a nice big hug!

Anyway, /rant off. (Yes Panzer_God I know this kind of stuff has been mentioned before but I just wanted to put my $20 in =P)

Nope, has to be the Italian/Scottish mix. BWAHA! Or are you talking about a pair of Scottish made jeans? If that's the case, of course!

Idea 2: At any given gym, such as the YMCA, have exercise bikes hooked up to generators, obese people can get paid for using these bikes for a certain amount of time.
Hopefully it would result in: obese people get a workout, jobs are created in a bad economy, and a lower electric bill. These machines would also be available for home usage, perhaps with similar results.
i think this is a good idea, i dont know if it would work but its good but the clothes thing wouldn't work its alienating them.

Sure, some people would be a bit portly, but nobody would be obese.

Nobody would starve, either.

"I just don't know how I got this big" Obese people say this garbage all time. Are you fooking kidding me? When you have to turn sideways to get through a doorway or maybe when you have to buy XXXL pants to cover your fat ass, that is usually a good indication that you should lose some weight. "I've tried every diet, they just don't work. I must have that fat gene." >_<" Ok, obviously you have not tried every diet hard enough. They don't work if you don't follow them correctly or long enough. Secondly even if your metabolism sucks, you can still lose weight, it just takes longer. I know because I have. The secret is eat less, eat healthier, exercise more, and drink water. "gasp" I know, I know, it is really complicated.

Edit- This was an attempt at social satire, and me trying to be witty and funny. Apparently it failed miserable. Please don't take this too seriously. Everybody is like snowflakes, and if you are happy with your snowflake shape, good for you and more power to you.

Maybe, but like Max said, it's mostly a conscious choice. They can be a bit obese, but when they're so obese that they get health problems because of it, that's when I seriously don't care of them and the human rights in the same sentence.

Me and my brother were recently discussing the problem of obesity, and came up with a few clever ideas to help put an end to this "epidemic."

Idea 1: Clothing. Continue to make clothing as normal. But clothes can no longer be made in any size above XL.
Hopefully it would result in: obese people being forced to either lose the weight, walk around naked, or make their own clothes.

These not only won't work but may in fact backfire and increase obesity. Want to know why? Here we go...

1 already exists, for the most part, and it hasn't worked yet. If you're obese, it's damn hard to get decent clothes, that's why you see obese people walking around in the most unfashionable stuff known to man - it's not what they wanna wear, it's just often all they can get. And a lot of fatter people who care about fashion DO make their own clothes already because of this reason. Beth Ditto started her own clothing line for a reason. Also if you ban large clothes completely, an illegal XXXL-size clothing manufacturing black market would surface. The streets would run rivers of blood as rival illegal XXXL-clothes gangs battled it out for control of the market. (And before any of you say "well, good", keep in mind it's the manufacturers who are dying here, as well as innocent bystanders, not the fat end users of the product.) Anyone knows that as soon as you make something illegal, criminal organisations latch on and availability actually goes UP. More powerful organisations like the mafia may take a proactive approach and start opening up their own cake shops in order to drive the average obesity rate up even further, thus lining their own back pockets when people find they can only fit into the mob's clothing.

2 wouldn't work for obvious reasons. If you only let obese people use the machines, then those people have an economic incentive to stay obese. Fat folks would ride the machines for an hour and then quickly hop down to the cake shop to put those kilos straight back on so they could still make a living providing electricity to the world. "Re-fattening" clinics offering cake and counselling on big comfy chairs may even spring up for those fat people worried about getting too skinny and losing their jobs. These clinics won't be attended just by ex-fatties - skinny people may start going too, and piling on the kilos so they too can be one of "the chosen ones" who get to ride exercise bikes for a living. It's a pretty cushy job (pardon the pun) come to think of it. Guaranteed employment, work from home, listen to music on your iPod, watch TV, turn pedals a bit, get paid. Where do I sign?

I don't mind when you actually have something to say, I rag on the people who say "get off the couch and get some exercise" or one of the fifty variations I'm sure you'll find.
