...hmm.

i am underweight. i am unable to gain weight. i have tried eating more in the past, but it hasn't made any difference. i don't even try to gain weight any more. i know that i can't. it just makes me feel ill trying.

there is often the same issue for obese people. they try to lose weight, but often weight is genetic as opposed to just changing when their lifestyle is adjusted.

"I just don't know how I got this big" Obese people say this garbage all time. Are you fooking kidding me? When you have to turn sideways to get through a doorway or maybe when you have to buy XXXL pants to cover your fat ass, that is usually a good indication that you should lose some weight. "I've tried every diet, they just don't work. I must have that fat gene." >_<" Ok, obviously you have not tried every diet hard enough. They don't work if you don't follow them correctly or long enough. Secondly even if your metabolism sucks, you can still lose weight, it just takes longer. I know because I have. The secret is eat less, eat healthier, exercise more, and drink water. "gasp" I know, I know, it is really complicated.
Well you just plain aren't very nice are you?

Can I blame it on my scottish genes too :D
Nope, has to be the Italian/Scottish mix. BWAHA! Or are you talking about a pair of Scottish made jeans? If that's the case, of course!
Damn I have only the irish/scottish mix! Poor metabolism and crazy hair! it's all bad for me!
Hey I'm Irish and German, I'm gonna be a fat alcoholic with a funny accent.

You know, if you took out all of my comments, all of the people who quoted max and all of the people who repeated stuff that was in the first four responses then there would be (liberally) about 80 responses.

I'm actually very nice. I just don't have a lot of sympathy for people who can change themselves for the better, but don't because they are too lazy or can't stop making excuses for themselves.

actually... have an idea... shops to increase the price of junk food etc and make fruit and veg, organic etc cheaper (not sure about states but in the uk they are startin to cost alot)
This I definitely agree with. Where I live I can get a 2L pop for around a dollar, but for 2L of Milk it's almost four dollars, and 2L of juice can go anywhere between two dollars to four dolars.

Same thing with vegetables. I can get a couple of peppers and a few mushroom for five or six bucks, but for that price I can get four or five cans of Spaghettios or some other crap. I can get a couple of fast food burgers for a couple of bucks, but anything healthy that'll fill me up the same way costs more than double that. It's ridiculous.

Some people just cannot afford to eat as healthy as they should. There should be government subsidies for buying healthy food, or something.

Plus, people do need to get out more and exercise. Even going for a walk for a half hour a day. Something. This includes myself.

Stop fucking eating so much and go outside (it's horrible, I know, I sympathize,) once in a while.

Honestly, obese people should get the same fate as smokers or alcoholics - no health care.
At all.

Yes, it can sometimes be genetic or whatever - but most of the time, it's a conscious choice. It's like how stupid kids should be eliminated in order to reduce the burden on the school systems.
That's somewhat harsh. just taxt the living daylights out of them and use the ideas posited in the OP.

Here's the thing. If I need to starve (and yes, it would be starving) myself for the rest of my life and exercise every day for several hours in order to keep to a culturally ideal weight I refuse to do it and no-one has the right to expect it of me.

I was doing satire of commonly used excuses, and trying to be funny. Obviously my attempt at it was "Fail".
I am not talking out of ass about weight loss or making excuses. I am 5'0ft and used to be almost 200 pounds, and resembled a beach ball in shape. I loss over 80 pounds and have kept it all off for over a decade now by just doing those simple things. I was trying to point out if one stops making excuses and faces reality, they have the power to change it.

Okay, now apply this logic to me.

I have asthma, allergy and high blood pressure (genetic - my grandma had a lot of problems with blood pressure, so does my mom). I'm trying to fight with all these things, but look what happens:

I try to play soccer, I get hit in the nose and it starts to bleed (blood pressure too high).
I try to go swimming, which I like a lot and I'm very good at it despite my 5kg/12 pounds too much, I can't breathe after 15 minutes because my lung capacity is 30% lower than one of a normal person.
I try karate, which I love, I find out that my physician forbids me to have such kind of stressful excercises.
I go to the gym... Hey, but then the second doctor visit came by, and she forbids the gym, too!

I tried going on a diet, I lost 5 pounds, got sick, regained 5 pounds. I went on another diet, went on vacations, and eating only stuff they gave me in the cafeteria, I come back to my old weight.

I just stopped caring about it. No matter how much I tried, something stopped me from succeeding.

So please, next time, use your head instead of being a smartass.

Move out of the big city and live on a farm. I have never seen an obese farmer. Big farmer, yes, but never obese.
Ah, the farm.

...Why do I have a rash? My nose is full... and my eyes are red. Oh, and I can't breath... how fun being on a farm.

?? Who said anything about starving yourself and you don't have to exercise everyday. If you do 30 minutes at least 3 times a week, you are kind set. "shrug" Whatever floats your boat though. It is all a personal choice and if you are comfortable and happy with yourself, then everyone's opinions should not matter.

Yeah but then you have people like me, I know that I'm fat, I know I could change it if I tried but I don't care, I'm happy the way I am and now I'm getting into arguments with people who are ridiculing that for no better reason then they are afraid of their own shortcomings.

I am not afraid of my own shortcomings. I am just curious as to why you are happy to sit back contentedly and poison yourself. I mean, if you were attempting suicide via pills or cutting, the government would've whisked you away long ago.

All right, I'm heading to bed. I'm tired of arguing with skinny/pretend skinny people
