To what end i am scared is the fact that when young people use drugs (all the same what drugs) it has become a norm in life. It is kind of ok. At least to you people or young adults. Not to this day I don't undestand why people would do it. I don't see the point of drinking alcohol or smoke if you don't have the age. People say it's just fun but I don't see the point. Life is long and you have time to do it.

Now what comes to drugs. The use of drugs has risen in the years and that ain't good. maybe the papers or news don't say it every time but I know that drug related violance and other unlaful acts have gone up. Sure there is some people who would use drugs no matter what we do... that is life but so many use them cause it's kind of ok in our society. At least when it comes young people. And young have way too much freedom to do what they want and too much pressure to be something big... Life is just a unfair place and it's just going downhill atm.

Alright, I'm noticing a trend lately. "Adult" Literature (No, not pornographic) seems to be depicting teens, anywhere from 14-19, as either sex-crazed or buying drugs.

Now, I'm not normally one to complain, but I can see where this is going to lead. Parents who read these books are going to become paranoid. They will try to match any sort of pattern in the book with their child's life, and then condemn them for it. Now I'm not saying there aren't teens that do this, but think about it. How many times do you see a teen in the news for something other than this kind of behavior? This is going to lead to the same kind of paranoia that will cause parents to suffocate their kids, instead of letting them experience life for themselves.

Why am I complaining about this? My mom thinks I'm going to have sex with my girlfriend every chance I get these days. All because she read The Tenth Circle by Jodi Piccoult. It depicts the kids drinking and having a rainbow party.

Feel free to shoot me down now.

Thank,

JGreg
From what I've observed (as a nice mid-ling ground, being a member of the late gen-x or early gen-y depending on definition), there hasn't been a noticeable increase in the use of drugs or propensity towards sex of the later generations (those of you currently in your teens). Parents are often overprotective of their kids, and this continues past when the children leave the nest and head to college. Some parents cope well, some don't.

Kids drink. It happens. It happens even more in college; that's hardly drug abuse. As well, most people who experiment with drugs that are low to moderate addiction rates quit after a couple years; I've seen much of this in personal experience (pro tip: don't try the harder stuff. Just say "fuck meth").

While I obviously can't know everything everywhere, I do know that as far as I can tell, a "Rainbow Party" has never actually occurred http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_party_%28sexuality%29

While I think it's a rash generalization I can't blame parents for thinking this, being the old man trapped inside a teens body that I am I can't help but notice the ghastly number of teens around me that spend their weekends getting piss drunk with a whole bottle o' booze, "Hooking up" with anything that bares a pulse, doing drugs like marijuana and then posting it all on their facebooks and not shutting up about it come Mondays lunch break like they're the kings of maturity and masculinity at the ages of 14 and 15.

I'm of the belief that you shouldn't throw out the basket 'cause of a few bad eggs but if parents want to start waving red flags and revolutionising the world to make it better for our teens for goodness sake get to it if it means putting an end to these bragamuffin teens. Oh and to the Op it's best to not sign off each of your posts.

I haven't drunk or smoked anything ever. And I don't plan to.
I said that about alcohol, but i'm always drinking now, only casually, but now i ralise why oter people could find parties so bearable

and i only have one friend who is a sex addict, but he takes a lot of pills and powders (kreatine etc) that contain penylethylanine, and so his drive is way over average.

I'm both Asexual and have never taken a drug in my life, not even painkillers for when I got surgery. I'm 24 now but that should still say something

I have a friend like that. He has sex with pretty much everyone, male or female, and he takes loads of drugs!
Comrade, I thought that was you!

OT: Of course they are. Isn't that what the media has been telling us since the dawn of time?

I've been told that crime in general has actually gone down, or at least not increased.

I'm a good, saintly little boy compared to him.

He sets himself on fire for fun.
I had a friend in high school who would do that.

We got kicked out of the library for a week!

As for myself, I wasn't a drug and/or sex addict. Alcoholic, yes of course not.

It's been 13 years since I could call myself a teen (and 15 since I graduated from high school), but I was strung out on stimulants from age 11 through age 19, frequently drunk from age 16 to 19, and I'd have had a lot more sex if I weren't so repulsive from being strung out on drugs and alcohol far past the point where I was a social user and well into the realm of being a junkie. Even the druggie chicks wouldn't fuck me.

So when I hear stories of teenagers engaging in drunken sexual escapades and smoking enough weed to make my Baby Boomer parents think "wow, we didn't smoke that much in the Sixties", I just think "well hot damn, some things never change. Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes."

(for what it's worth I've been clean and sober since August 14, 1996. There's hope for everyone.)

Believe it or not, some of the facts are true. At least with my generation, my pupils were constantly using foul language, abusing drugs, or having intercourse with one another.

Not to mention the king of animosity, the Internet. Some of the things that adolescents and even children have done or posted on the Internet is far worse that what they would do in real life.

I'm not quite sure what causes these behaviors in such young stages of life; perhaps anonymity? Or maybe it's the Forbidden Fruit aspect of morales and law that drive these teens to partake in such despicable acts.

Or we teenagers are just fucking morons.

So many people in my grade (16-18 year olds) go out and get drunk/smoke/do drugs (some anyway), and almost all of them cannot seem to think without the use of their penis. I can, but then again, I also don't drink, smoke or take drugs, so maybe I'm an exception?

But yeah, stereotypes exist for a reason, mainly because they portray characteristics that set one group apart from another.

Well we can't blame the teens. We all know videogames did it.

Why would a teen be on the news for anything other than misbehavior? Should they be on the news for being absolutely normal?

But I get how stupid parents can be, and think that every book that is a top seller is automatically the truth.
Exactly what this guy said, if you include my modification.

This reminds me of when Skins first aired and the daily mail reported it as a 100% accurate representation of teenage life.

PErsonally I dont know anyone who could be desrcibed as a drug/sex addict. Me and a few friends like to kick back with a joint every now and then, and there are a few people who sleep around a bit, but thats nothing out of the ordinary.

No matter what period of time we are in "Teenagers are out of control!!!" always crops up.
Like in the 50's where jazz clubs started to open or the 60's where the Mods and rockers clashed and smashed Brighton city up over a weekend

The author is sorta right. Some of the people my age[in high school] are all into that sorta thing. But I steer way clear of contact with those people and that sorta stuff. In year 8, one of my friends thought she was knocked up after having sex with a 15 year old at a music concert, and they were doing drugs...SHE WAS 14.

EDIT: OH...and I go to a Catholic school.
