Also, even if I am an American, I still feel that I have the right to be insulted that people of other nationalities would profess disdain for a new title in a series that they claim to be fans of just because it makes a tour of American Civil War times.
Look at it this way...

Assassin's Creed is unique in how it is one of the few titles not set in America.

People enjoy variety and it would seem less exotic and fresh to set it in America, where every other game is set.

It's nothing against Americans.

Now the French, on the other hand...
That makes sense, and I can see variety being an important facet of any entertainment industry. But an AC game in America would most likely be set in a time period not explored by video games, since that is the stated idea of the series. Excluding Darkest of Days and those terrible History Channel games, how many video games really are set during the civil war?

None that I am aware of, but at its heart it would still be a game with American accents, American attitudes, architecture and culture. I say give other cultures a chance!

Even if I personally believe they just won't take it there, rejecting the promise a title set in it could have because (and only because) it's 'another' game in America is just as groundless and wrong as an American passing up Assassin's Creed 1, The Sabetour or any other game that's outside their comfort zone. And I'm not singling out, both of these groups of people exist and need to be dutifully ignored while the rest of us grown-ups get our game on.
Or they just feel the American Civil War would not be a good place to set an Assassin's Creed game. You don't have to jump to the conclusion that we all hate America, people have given valid reasons for it not to be set then, or given better ideas for a setting, yet you have ignored them.
I know that people have given valid reasons, and I know that they exist, but once again I'm not referring to the people who have valid reasons, but instead the people who viewpoints that are invalidated by their own nativisim. Which, I will remind you, there are just as many in America as there are elsewhere. Almost definitely more, for simple demographic reasons. I've got a problem with Americans who won't play a game not set in the US just as much as I have a problem with a Frenchman or a Brit or a New Zealand Native or whoever that instead of offer valid criticism decry the setting for irrelevant reasons.

Feudal Japan would be a far better choice. America outside of modern day would be terrible for free-running.

But that's just it, most people aren't Italian. It's not to do with not playing a game from your own country, it's to do with playing another game revolving around America. We just don't find it interesting, and a majority of the people here can think of much more exotic and interesting places to be than the American Civil War.

If the story was good enough to actually make me give a shit about American history, now that's an achievement.

Well then, the burden lies on Ubisoft to create a gaming experience that really can be that riveting. If they fail and make it some sort of pandering, I'll cry foul just as quickly as the next person.

Civil War America I think would be an interesting setting. Not the Civil War itself, but the time period. Newer weapons were coming into being around then and there was the whole Lincoln assassination which would be just perfect for the story to include. You could have it during the end of the War and during the beginning of the Reconstruction Period, I can see that giving some interesting intrigue.

Although I think this whole arguement is moot, because wasn't there something about AC3 being set in Russia during Peter the Great's time?

if ac 3 was set in america it would be a boring 3rd person shooter unless it was set with native americans which in all honesty would mean scrapping desmond for a new character causing much rage from fanboys

feudal japan seemed a good idea
or egypt druring the fall of the roman empire due to the cultural conflicts, the links to creationism they're rolling with, it works neatly with the templar/assassin war if it goes that far back and plus its quite practical for free running

No, not really.

That's how you make yourself look like a humorless brick and cause others laugh at your expense.

But hey, what would I know... I'm a racist troll. (snigger)
You know, I tried to end it on a fucking light note. Just making everything I said false, but not with you. You have to be right huh? I give up, I used to enjoy this forum, but if just going to be people like you, I won't be welcome much longer.

Really now, all of these people have a problem with me because I think it's wrong to want to commit genocide. What the fuck is wrong with humanity?
Nobody has a problem with your aversion to genocide (I can't believe I just typed that)

They are merely explaining to you that ideologies are subjective and based off of opinion and not fact.

Genocide is only ever acceptable if the race in question does something to really annoy you, such as speaking in a stupid accent and eating snails.

History, Geography and themes make the French Revolution perfect. Move west, go forward in time, Dark ages to Renaissance to Enlightenment. It all fits so well I cannot think of any other place or time for AC III. Cast of characters, Marat, Robespierre, Voltaire, Louis XVI, Napoleon, etc.
